Americans Are Becoming Less Religious & Religious Diversity Is On The Rise In The U.S.

The United States of America is becoming increasingly more and less religious overall, however, religious diversity is on the rise in the United States, despite the overall decline.
The Christian Daily reports: “The United States of America has been very proud of its diversity. Individuals of different races and religions have been considered an asset to the general American experience. However, new studies have shown that diversity in religion may be undermining the religious vitality of conservative white Christian Americans. ”
“It has been noted that the religious landscape of the United States has continuously been shifting and transforming,” the article reads. “Currently, the country celebrates multiple religions such as Sikhism, Buddhism, Islam and Hinduism and schools of thought like humanism, skepticism, atheism and subjective spirituality. Other factors such as racial and ethnic shifts have also influenced the dynamics of religion among Americans.”
According to Robert P. Jones, in his book “The End of White Christian America,” the United States is starting to be less religious, and the shift in racial, social, and cultural demographics are some of the main components for the shift.
“Today, white evangelicals are not only experiencing the shrinking of their own ranks, but they are also confronting larger, genuinely new demographic and cultural realities, white Christians constituted a majority of the country; today, that number has slipped to 45 percent. Over this same period, support for gay marriage, a key issue for evangelicals — moved from only four in 10 to solid majority territory, and the Supreme Court cleared the way for gay and lesbian couples to marry in all 50 states. The Supreme Court itself symbolized these changes, losing its last remaining Protestant justice, John Paul Stevens, in 2010,” he said, as quoted by World Religion News.
