Sean Hannity went after top Republican Sens. Mitch McConnell and John Thune during Monday's Hannity monologue for their condemnation of former President Donald Trump following the deadly insurrection at the Capitol on Jan. 6. Neither Thune nor McConnell was among the seven Senate Republicans who voted to convict Trump at the impeachment trial, but just moments after Trump was acquitted, McConnell took to the Senate floor where he said that Trump actually was undoubtedly responsible for the insurrection.

“There's no question, none, that President Trump is practically and morally responsible for provoking the events of the day. No question about it,” McConnell said in his speech. “The people who stormed this building believed they were acting on the wishes and instructions of their president. And having that belief was a foreseeable consequence of the growing crescendo of false statements, conspiracy theories, and reckless hyperbole, which the defeated president kept shouting into the largest megaphone on planet Earth.”

“This is the question the Republicans are now going to have to ask themselves tonight,” Hannity said. “Where was John Thune and Mitch Mcconnell fighting against the biggest abuse of power and corruption scandal in our history with Operation Crossfire Hurricane? They were missing in action.”

As McConnell, along with dozens of other Republicans, faces backlash for daring to defy Trump, Hannity called for new GOP leadership in the Senate. Hannity also questioned when McConnell was going to make a similar speech condemning Democrats for something they haven’t actually done.

“When is he going to give a speech on the Senate floor and hold those Democrats accountable for their incitement of insurrection and their insurrection-like language?” Hannity asked. “The time is now coming for new leadership in the U.S. Senate.”

Hannityairs weeknights at 9 p.m. on Fox News Channel.

On The Circus Sunday, Mark McKinnon sat down with Robert Ray, who served on former President Donald Trump’s legal team for his first impeachment trial. Despite believing that Trump did not do anything impeachable, Ray praised the House impeachment managers for their use of previously unseen footage from the deadly insurrection at the Capitol on January 6, which Trump is accused of inciting. “A presentation to the American people, I will grant you, I think has been a service to the country,” Ray said. “So I will acknowledge that. I do think it has served a useful purpose, yes.” Trump was acquitted in the senate of inciting the insurrection, falling ten votes short of the necessary 67 votes to convict. Despite praising the use of the video at the trial, Ray said it had no chance of getting a conviction. “Trial by video is never going to get you to what was Donald Trump’s intent.” Ray said, later adding, “If he had said to them, I want you to go to the Capitol, break windows and break into the Capitol, or bring weapons with you, I think that’s a whole different situation.”
