The news out of the Middle East continues to capture my attention as conflict is escalating. But I don’t want you to lose sight of other events happening in our world—including some of the things being discussed about artificial intelligence as the world’s elites gathered this week in Davos, Switzerland. More about that below. I am praying for you and appreciate your comments, questions, prayers for each other and so much more this week at Tipping Point! 1. Wisdom from ScriptureYou have turned for me my mourning into dancing; 2. Quote to Consider“God’s purposes and plans will be accomplished in His perfect timing. Jesus Christ will literally return to rule and reign as King from Jerusalem over Israel and all the earth. While the enemy rages, these current cataclysmic events give us as believers an unprecedented opportunity to demonstrate faith courageously, pray fervently, share the gospel of eternal life with hope, and make personal prepara- tions for Christ’s imminent return.” [from our book What’s Next? Israel-Gaza War] 3. Pay Attention to This NewsIn Davos this week, technology and political attendees talked at length about the impact of artificial intelligence deepfakes in the upcoming U.S. elections. This became a reality last year in Slovakia’s elections, when a synthetic audio recording seemed to show a candidate planning to rig the election by buying votes. The audio was synthetic and produced with AI—it wasn’t true—but was shared widely by his opponents during the election and the victim ultimately lost. That was last year, and the technology has improved dramatically since then. Don’t be surprised if the upcoming American presidential election becomes very complicated because of deepfake “recordings” or videos of candidates. 4. Comment of the Week“This was a very good interview. Lots of information. We continue to stand with Israel. We are praying for the light to reveal the darkness in every area of this world.” —Tipping Point subscriber Randy in the comments after Brian Schrauger’s Israel update video on January 16 about Africa and the International Court of Justice. 5. Definition of the Week: NephilimNephilim: A Hebrew word referring to mysterious giants who lived on earth before the Flood, mentioned in Genesis 6:4 and Numbers 13:33. The word nephilim means “fallen ones,” and the biblical context indicates “the sons of God” had sexual relations with the daughters of men, and they had children, which became known as the nephilim. These beings were very different from the humans who descended directly from Adam and Eve. Many Bible scholars view this race of giants as the offspring of fallen angels who mated with human women to create a hybrid race, which God detested. He instructed His people to wipe these giants off the face of the earth. 6. Link of the WeekLast week, the artificial intelligence company OpenAI softened language in its usage policies that previously included a ban on military use. Until January 10, this page on the OpenAI site banned “activity that has a high risk of physical harm” and specifically cited “weapons development” and “military and warfare” uses. That would have ruled out use by the Pentagon or the Department of Defense. But now that language has been edited in a new policy, which simply says its technology should not be used “to harm yourself or others.” As reworded, this doesn’t specifically rule out military or national security uses. 7.
