CHAG SAMEACH - HAPPY PASSOVER!Nisan 14, 5784/April 22, 2024 The festival of Passover is the birthday of the nation of Israel. By their courage to put their faith in HaShem and to perform the Passover offering on this day while still in Egypt, an enslaved people earned their own liberation. By the grace of G-d, Who, with His outstretched arm and mighty hand brought Israel out of Egypt, Israel became a nation, a free people in charge of its own destiny, walking hand in hand with HaShem. The fifteenth of Nisan was the beginning of a long march that took Israel through the Sea of Reeds to Mount Sinai, where they received Torah, their Bill of Rights and Responsibilities, and onward to the land promised their forefathers, the land of Israel. Four thousand years later our march to freedom continues as the people of Israel, newly reborn in the land of Israel, spreads her wings and takes to the skies. Today Israel is in a fight for our very lives in the land of our forefathers, a fight that with the faith and courage our ancestors displayed in Egypt, we will win. Nevertheless, today, when we celebrate with family and friends our festival of freedom, we will remember those who are still in captivity, held by an evil and barbaric enemy in Gaza. We will also remember all those who lost their lives on October 7th and all those who willingly gave their lives to vanquish our enemies and bring our captives home. Freedom is a great and precious gift never to be taken for granted. The Temple Institute wishes a very happy and peaceful Passover to the people of Israel all throughout the world, and to all who love the people, land and G-d of Israel. May we soon hear glad tidings as we continue our journey together. Chag Sameach - Happy Passover! . |

Passover Special Israel always seems to be in the thick of it, a target for the world's opprobrium. Even today, despite her sovereign territory being twice violated, once on October 7th, by barbaric savages from Gaza, and only this past week, by 350 heavily armed projectiles fired from Iran, Israel is being told to stand down and let it pass. But once upon a time, if just for a brief moment, the Israelites escaping from Egyptian slavery found grace in the eyes of their Egyptian neighbors. Metzora (Leviticus 14:1 - 15:33) Parashat Metzora is read on Shabbat: Nisan 12, 5784/April 20, 2024 |

The next day, on the Sabbath day, the kohanim arranged the Showbread loaves on the Table of the Showbread within the Kodesh area. The outgoing loaves that were removed, were placed on the golden table in the Ulam. The loaves remained there until the frankincense from the censers on the Showbread table were offered on the mizbeach. After this, the loaves were distributed to the kohanim for consumption. The pilgrims would sleep outside in the town square; they would not enter houses, so as not to become impure. Every morning, Beit Din emissaries would awaken the pilgrims and call, “Arise and let us go up to Zion!” (Bikkurim 3:2). The convoys would thus continue from town to town, gathering more pilgrims along the way, until they arrived at the gates of Jerusalem in large numbers. (Passover begins next Monday evening!) |
