Our hearts break for the victims of the New Year's terrorist attack in New Orleans and their families. Just a few weeks ago, New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell spoke firmly at the CAM Mayors Summit Against Antisemitism about the need to confront hatred and extremism with unity and resolve. The entire world must rally behind the people of New Orleans and come together in solidarity to combat and eradicate the ideologies that fuel such violent atrocities.
As Jewish communities across the globe celebrated Hanukkah this week, antisemites laid bare their implacable bigotry by defacing menorah displays and targeting Jewish worshipers worldwide. The Antisemitism Research Center (ARC) by CAM has recorded 13 incidents targeting public menorah displays or Hanukkah celebrations since Hanukkah began or soon before, including in Ukraine, the United Kingdom, Canada, and the United States.
The perpetrators of these crimes are the historical successors of the Seleucid Empire and its attempts to quash Jewish faith, traditions, and freedom, as recalled in the Hanukkah story, but like the Maccabees, today's Jews and their allies are bravely fighting back against Jew-hatred, and we are proud to play a leading role in this collective effort.
In the past week, CAM participated in several prominent Hanukkah celebrations organized by our partners in Uruguay, while in Tel Aviv a special philanthropy gala was held to honor the dozens of Israeli organizations and projects supported by CAM in the aftermath of the October 7th massacre.
As 2025 gets underway, we wish all of our followers a Happy New Year! As the post-October 7th surge of antisemitism continues to wreak a path of global destruction, we pledge in the year ahead to elevate the tenacity of our work in 2024 to identify, counter, and ultimately defeat the world's oldest hatred. Thank you for your ongoing support!
