FAQ :: Does baptism save me?

FAQ :: Does baptism save me?

No more than swimming saves you.
Baptism is never presented in the Scriptures as saving anyone. When baptism is mentioned in the context of salvation, you will always find it paired with something else that would demonstrate belief. But don’t stop here. The rest may be of great importance to your position.
In Mark 16:15-16, Jesus said that those who believe and are baptized would be saved.
There is much controversy (unnecessarily, I believe) over the question of baptism’s place in salvation. I believe that my next comments may disagree with Todd’s beliefs, but they are presented with all respect to his understanding and love for him and his work. I find that I must teach what I understand to be the truth.
In addition to the reference in Mark, and the numerous instances of baptism with respect to salvation in the New Testament (1 Peter 3:21, etc.), I look back to the Old Testament, 2 Kings chapter 5.
In this instance, we find Namaan. He has leprosy. He is informed about a prophet in Israel who can help. After a roundabout route, including a visit to the king, he winds up at the house of Elisha, a prophet of God. Without coming out of the house, Elisha sends a messenger to instruct Namaan to wash himself in the Jordan River seven times and he would be clean. Namaan was furious and refused, citing rivers in the North that were better. His escorts asked him, “If the Prophet asked you to do something hard, would you do it? Why then do you refuse when he says wash and be clean?” Namaan gives in, washes seven times and is clean.
My reasoning is this: What if he had not washed? Would Namaan have been cleansed? The obvious answer is no, he would have died a leper.
Jesus himself said that those who believe and are baptized would be saved. A further New Testament study reveals what He means by this. Evidence of our belief is in our actions, not our words. This action results in the bearing of fruit as we are led by the Holy Spirit to act–not doing works to be saved, but because we are saved (see James). There are no works that can save us.
Thus a dilemma: Is baptism a work? I vote no. Using reasoning that baptism is a work could just as easily reason that faith or belief in Jesus is a work. You have to do it or there is no salvation. Baptism is a faithful response to an offer of eternal salvation and a declaration of that faith, just like Namaan. Was it the washing that cleansed him? No, it was his faithful response to an offer of cleansing.
Regardless of your belief in the role of baptism in salvation, Jesus himself commanded it. The apostles many times reiterated this command and practiced it. We can do no less. But do not view baptism as saving you. Only Jesus can do that and even so, only through our faith. I say respond.

FAQ :: I believe in God. Does that mean I am saved?

FAQ :: I believe in God. Does that mean I am saved?

It depends on what you mean by “believe.” The Bible says that even the devil and his demons believe in Jesus Christ. Belief in His existence must be followed by belief in the saving power of His blood. Then, there must be faith that if you call on Him, He will hear your prayer and will forgive you of your sins. Finally, that belief and faith must be followed by the action of surrendering yourself to Him.
If you believe in Jesus Christ, but have not taken that final step to begin a personal relationship with Him, don’t wait a moment longer. Ask Jesus to forgive you of your sins, truly repent and surrender your will to His. At that moment, your belief will be turned into salvation and the Holy Spirit will come to live inside you. Be sure to read the other answers to the questions on salvation in this FAQs section, especially, “How do I become saved.”

FAQ :: I am not emotional and did not cry when I became a Christian. Am I saved?

FAQ :: I am not emotional and did not cry when I became a Christian. Am I saved?

Think of the birth of a baby. Some fathers jump for joy at the sight of their newborn, some weep with pride, others pass out. Would anyone say that the only father who loves his new baby is the one who cried? Of course not. Every person has a different make-up with different ways of approaching a given situation. Some people are excitable; some are emotional; and some are clinical.
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life” (Jn. 3:16). It is clear that whoever believes in Him will have eternal life. There is no Scripture that says that a requirement for salvation is tears. If, in faith, you turned to the Lord in repentance of your sins, you are saved.
If you are concerned about your lack of emotional response, you can pray that the Lord will begin to chip away at whatever walls you have built around yourself that keep you from letting go, at times. He wants to heal you from the inside out. Once He breaks down the walls in your life you will feel free to express yourself more openly.

FAQ :: If God really knows me, deep inside, will I still get into Heaven?

FAQ :: If God really knows me, deep inside, will I still get into Heaven?

Thank the Lord that not one of us will get to Heaven because of how good we are! I know that I wouldn’t make it if that were the case. No one would. One little sin–either by thought, word, or action–would be more than enough to make every person unworthy of being in the holy presence of God.
How special it is that God does know you–right down to your private thoughts–and still loves you. In fact, He loves you so much that He sent His one and only Son to die in payment for your sins because He knew that you couldn’t do it on your own. “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Rom. 6:23).

FAQ :: What is eternal life?

FAQ :: What is eternal life?

It is difficult for the human mind to conceive the concept of eternity. A lifetime is a long time. Is eternity two lifetimes? Three? Four? Is there a beginning to eternity? How about an end? I once heard this analogy: If each grain of sand on every beach in the whole world represented 1 million years, you would not have even put a dent in eternity.
Our eternity–where we will spend it–is decided by whether or not we accept the gift of salvation offered by Jesus. If we do, then we are privileged to spend eternity forever in the presence of God in Heaven. If we do not, then we are forever apart from God, in Hell.
In Heaven, there is no death, sickness, pain, boredom or need. In Hell, there is always pain, agony, need, misery, loneliness–the contrast of these two places is unimaginable! Knowing that the decision is irreversible upon your death, where do you want to spend eternity?
If you have never put your hope and trust in Jesus Christ, don’t wait another moment! You are not guaranteed another opportunity. All you have to do to begin your walk with the Lord is say a simple prayer like this one:
Lord Jesus, I know that I am a sinner and I ask you to forgive me of my sins. Please cleanse my heart of all that is not pleasing to you. Please show me how to live for you. Thank you for forgiving me and thank you for the promise of eternal life. Amen.
Now, you can be confident that you will spend eternity with Jesus. Please begin to study God’s Word and seek His will as you move forward. May God richly bless you!

FAQ :: Can I just have fun while I am young and then get saved later?

FAQ :: Can I just have fun while I am young and then get saved later?

“Later” is a risky gamble. Many things could happen throughout the day that would guarantee that you will have no “later.” Your eternal destiny is far too important to risk. The words that John the Baptist spoke are still true, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near.” And you must be careful because the Bible warns, “A man who remains stiff-necked after many rebukes will suddenly be destroyed-without remedy” (Prov. 29:1).
Why do you think that being a Christian means that you don’t get to have fun? What is it about your life right now that is so important, so fun, that not only could you not live without it, but you would also risk your eternal life for it? Seriously examine your life and find the things that you would likely have to give up in order to follow Christ. I challenge you to take those issues to the Lord in prayer. Ask Him to help you to have the proper perspective on sin and to give you the strength you need to turn from sin and turn towards Him.

FAQ :: If God is choosing who is saved, doesn’t that cancel out our free will to choose and believe in Christ?

FAQ :: If God is choosing who is saved, doesn’t that cancel out our free will to choose and believe in Christ?

The Bible says that everyone has choice and all who believe in Jesus Christ will be saved (John 3:16; Romans 10:9-10). The Word of God never describes God rejecting anyone who believes in Him or turning away anyone who is truly seeking Him (Deuteronomy 4:29). God in His infinite wisdom has a way to integrate predestination with a person being called by God (John 6:44) and coming to faith unto salvation (Romans 1:16).
God predestines who will be saved, and we must choose Christ in order to be saved. Both facts are equally true.
“Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and His ways past finding out!” (Romans 11:33)

FAQ :: I am a good person, so I can count on going to Heaven, right?

FAQ :: I am a good person, so I can count on going to Heaven, right?

By whose standards are you measuring your goodness?
Romans 3.23: “For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.”
This verse very clearly says that all people are unworthy of God’s goodness. Being a good person can help us get through this life. It can attract some good friendships and cause people to trust us and lean on us in difficult times. However, it is not what God requires of us. If God held us to the standard He requires no one would ever make it into heaven. God has known since the beginning of time that Man is incapable of perfecting himself, so He has been trying to show us our need for a Savior through our own weakness. It is through Christ and Christ alone that we are made righteous.
1 John 1.9: “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” The first step is recognizing that no one is good enough. Second, we need to repent of sinfulness, especially the sin of pride–believing that we have somehow done something to make us worthy to spend eternity in the presence of God. Only then can God cleanse our hearts. Isaiah 1:18b says, “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be white as snow.”
Heaven is a holy place requiring salvation in Christ before entrance is allowed. It is not an automatic right for just anyone. It is a gift given to God’s children—people who have come to a faith in Christ and who have made Him Savior and Lord of their lives.
Many denominations and cults believe that there are many roads to heaven. Scripture clearly teaches that only through Jesus Christ can anyone enter the kingdom of heaven:
[Jesus said,] “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6).

FAQ :: If I sin, does that mean I was never saved?

FAQ :: If I sin, does that mean I was never saved?

The thing that causes new Christians to struggle the most is the conflict between their new identity and their old identity. They think that once they are saved, they will no longer battle the desires of the flesh and will live a perfect life. That is untrue; in fact, the battle can feel stronger because before becoming a Christian, there was no struggle.
The last thing the devil wants is for a person to accept Jesus Christ as his personal Savior. Once a person does that, the only thing the devil can do is dangle temptations and lies in his face. If Satan can cause a person to believe that he or she is failing and will never be good enough, then he has achieved his purpose: to keep a believer from living in the fullness of God’s grace.
The Apostle Paul struggled with this on a daily basis. In Romans, he describes his inner struggle perfectly. I can say it no better, so I will quote the entire passage.
Romans 7:15-20: “I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do. And if I do what I do not want to do, I agree that the law is good. As it is, it is no longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me. I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. For what I do is not the good I want to do; no, the evil I do not want to do–this I keep on doing. Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is the sin living in me that does it.”
Paul is saying that even though he has accepted Christ and is actively serving Him, he still battles with his flesh. We are called as believers to trample on that flesh and die to it daily. However, we will fail at times and, as Paul says in the next chapter, “Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death.”
That is no excuse to sin! Romans 6:1-2: “What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? By no means! We died to sin; how can we live in it any longer?” Clearly, we will fail. But we are to grow from the experience, not live in it, constantly relying on God’s grace to forgive.

FAQ :: How can I overcome temptation?

FAQ :: How can I overcome temptation?

Jesus quoted Deuteronomy 8.3 to rebuke the devil when he tempted Him to turn stones into bread after fasting for 40 days. When tempted by the forces of darkness, we must quote Scripture as Jesus did. More important, we must remember that our only spiritual food is the Word of God. Increase your time spent reading and studying the Bible.
We are in a fierce spiritual war with the forces of darkness and we must be ready for battle every day. We do that by putting on the armor of God. Every day we must gird our loins with the Truth, put on the breastplate of righteousness, shod our feet with the gospel of peace, take up the shield of faith, put on the helmet of salvation and take up the sword of the Spirit (Ephesians 6.13-18).
Girding one’s loins with the Truth is: knowing Scripture. Shodding our feet with the gospel is learning how and sharing the gospel by quoting the basic salvation passages (Romans 3.23, Hebrews 9.27; Matthew 25.46; Romans 5.8; John 3.16; Romans 6.23; Ephesians 2.8-9; John 14.6; Acts 12.4; John 1.12).
Taking up the sword of the Spirit is: memorizing Scripture so you can quote it when tempted by the forces of darkness. And remember to pray without ceasing (1 Thessalonians 5.17).

FAQ :: How can pride be decreased?

FAQ :: How can pride be decreased?

A Christian dies to himself every day by not doing things that feed the ego. Instead of spending time seeking to have one’s ego built up by attention and approval from others, we need to seek how we can build others up by giving approval to their good deeds, and by giving them attention, love, respect and honor:
“Therefore if there is any encouragement in Christ, if there is any consolation of love, if there is any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and compassion, make my joy complete by being of the same mind, maintaining the same love, united in spirit, intent on one purpose. Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves; do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others.
Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant,and being made in the likeness of men. Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. For this reason also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name” (Philippians 2:1-9).
Humility comes by building others up in the faith, not demanding others build us up in the faith or build up our egos. A believer dies to the flesh daily by not engaging in sins or in things that the sinful flesh desires. The goal of a believer who seeks to die to himself is to spend more time in spiritual activities than activities of the flesh which are not necessary for survival. Everyone must eat to live, but gluttony is a sin.
Everyone needs to engage in bodily exercise, but too many Christians spend more time exercising or procrastinating than they do praying and reading the Bible. A believer dies to the world by reducing involvements in certain worldly activities or by cutting them out altogether. Some worldly activities that most Christians spend far too much time engaged in are: television, movies, music, Internet, politics, non-spiritual books and magazines, and seeking to accumulate wealth and possessions.
Every Christian who desires to die to self and live a holy life for the glory of God will spend more time each day in prayer, Scripture, fellowship and soul-winning than in activities of the world. We know we are growing in the Lord and dying to ourselves when our self-love, love of the flesh and love of the world diminishes:
“Do not love the world nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world. The world is passing away, and also its lusts; but the one who does the will of God lives forever” (1 John 2:15-17) The more these sinful desires diminish the humbler one will be. Pride is the opposite of humility. Pride is the root of every sin. There is no sin a person can commit that does not spring from pride. That is why the key to holy living is to be humble. Humility replaces pride and when pride is vanquished so is sin. No one can ever eliminate all traces of pride and sin, but it should be the goal of every true believer.
Humility is a spiritual trait that every Christian should not only desire, but actively seek after. God does not use His children to bring Him glory until they are humble. A believer who humbles himself before God will be looked upon by God with grace (Isaiah 66:2; Proverbs 3:34; James 4:6) and He will have regard for him (Psalm 138:6).
And when we humble ourselves before God and those around us He will exalt us (James 4.10). We must never forget that all Christians are commanded to humble themselves before God (1 Peter 5.6); “walk humbly with” God (Micah 6.8), be “humble in spirit” (1 Peter 3.8), clothe themselves “with humility” (1 Peter 5.5) and to not be proud (Romans 12.16).
Humility is always better than pride (Proverbs 16:19) and it is the only way to obtain true riches, honor and life (Proverbs 22:4).
Pride will bring a person down while humility with bring him honor (Proverbs 11:2; 16:18; 29; 23).
We must also remember that there are numerous warnings against pride (Psalm 10:2; 40:4; 73:6; 119:78; Proverbs 3:7; 26:12; 28:25; Isaiah 5:21; 13:11; John 9:41; Revelation 3:17).
Pride is a sin (Proverbs 21.4), and it is one of the seven things that God hates (Proverbs 8:13). It is an abomination to Him (Proverbs 6:17), especially prideful deceit.
Humility is one of the most difficult traits for anyone to obtain. No one can be humble in his or her own power. We must rely on the power of the Holy Spirit to impart humility to us. Yet there are specific things we must do on a daily and regular basis before He will give us humility. The daily things we need to do is pray, read, study, memorize and meditate on Scripture. The things one should do on a regular basis are fellowship with the brethren, share the gospel with the lost as the Holy Spirit leads and make disciples.
As we do these things day-by-day and not do evil things we will grow more humble and be used by God for His glory (1 Corinthians 10:31) more each day. Others will see the Lord working thro

FAQ :: How can the backslidden be restored to faith?

FAQ :: How can the backslidden be restored to faith?

“Brethren, if anyone among you wanders from the truth, and someone turns him back, let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save a soul from death and cover a multitude of sins” (James 5:19-20).
When a brother or sister in the Lord backslide it is the duty of other believers to help bring them back (Galatians 6.1). If they repent you will save them from being judged by the church (Matthew 18.15-17), and possibly by God, who sometimes takes backsliders home (John 15.2, 6; 1 Corinthians 5.5).
When anyone helps bring a prodigal brother back to faith the sins that the backslider committed must be kept quiet. It does no one any good to broadcast to the entire church and the world every sin the backslider committed. Only the one who brings him back and possibly the pastors should know what sins have been committed.
The backslider should be the one to tell the pastors what sins he committed if he feels a need to. If someone confides in you, the best thing to do is be as loving and be available as possible. Spend time together in prayer and reading the Bible. Encouragement and tender loving care are very much needed when a fallen brother or sister repents and sincerely wants to serve the Lord again.

Salt and Light in the Darkness :: by Howard Green Published on: January 31, 2017 by RRadmin7 Category:General Articles

Salt and Light in the Darkness :: by Howard Green

In the course of our day to day activities, we come into contact with many people. At first glance, people seem to be okay as they go about their business. They may look happy, content, busy, nervous, or simply have an expressionless face at the moment. Looks are often deceiving and if we could see below the surface, beyond the smiles, blank stares, and the automatic, “I’m fine.” I believe we would be shocked by what we would discover. Let’s look beyond the facade and into the lives of hurting lost people all around us because we are salt and light in the darkness.
Luke 14:21 –  “So the servant came and reported these things to his master. Then the master of the house became angry and said to his servant, ‘Go out quickly to the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in the poor and crippled and blind and lame.’ And the servant said, ‘Sir, what you commanded has been done, and still there is room.’ And the master said to the servant, ‘Go out into the highways and hedges and compel people to come in, that my house may be filled.”
I have to admit that I get caught up in the business of daily life with family and work. Those are good things and then there are the activities we consider to be for the Lord such as daily devotions, church, perhaps small group, and even ministry. In the course of our busyness, we need to remember that we aren’t here to live for ourselves. Our devotion to the Lord isn’t a task-oriented list to be checked off only on Sundays or when we’ve finished reading our Bible in the morning. We are here for His glory and that should be reflected in everything we do.
We go into stores and the cashier or salesperson completes our sale. We dine in restaurants and a server brings our meal. We have technicians come into our home to make repairs. We are surrounded by people on the campus, in the office, and in our neighborhood. The point is that many of these people don’t know Jesus. They could be hurting and hopeless inside. They might be filled with worry, depressed, or in desperate cases, be contemplating suicide. They might have never heard the good news explained and may be on their way to an eternity in hell.
Matthew 5:13-16 –  “You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people’s feet. ‘You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.’”
Jesus told us we are salt and light. I would contend that we are commanded to live in such a way that God will receive the glory through everything we do. Whether eating, drinking, etc…do all for the glory of God. We can’t afford to take a moment off and relegate spiritual activities and a heart of worship for Sunday’s only. Can you imagine the opportunities that would be lost to be witnesses for Jesus if we had that mentality? If you are truly a Christian you must always be ready to give people a reason for the hope that is within you.
I’m reevaluating my interactions with people and making it a priority to engage those I meet throughout the day with the gospel and I hope many of you will do the same. It’s not enough to tell someone to have a nice day. We have a holy obligation to love people and go into all the world with the good news. With all of our grandiose mission statements to “win the world for Jesus,” oftentimes we forget that we are to be salt and light to those right here in our own town.
What would happen if each of us purposefully got beyond the posturing and platitudes and really made it a purpose of engaging people like Jesus did? I think the answer is that we would see some people come to repentance, enter into a relationship with Jesus, and the end result is God’s glory on full display. This cannot be done in the flesh and with wrong motives.
This is a personal effort grounded in prayer, fasting, and the word of God. We may be planting seeds or not get to see the harvest, but if the Lord is leading you, His glory will be the end result no matter how people respond.
If someone tells you they are doing fine, that is often a conditioned response. We should care for people enough to get to where their heart is. Of course, we aren’t pushy, insensitive, or weird. People can spot fake Christians a mile away. As believers, we have an obligation to genuinely care for people and sharing the love of Jesus and the gospel often begins with an open ear.
Matthew Henry’s commentary describes salt as a preservative and a cleansing agent. He says salt is a remedy for unsavory meat, but there is no remedy for unsavory salt. As the salt of the earth, we must keep our saltiness by the constant abiding in the Lord and His word. Jesus called us the light of the world. He called himself the Light of the world.
The light we are is only because of Him. Matthew Henry describes our light in this dark world. He says, ” As lights of the world, they are illustrious and conspicuous, and have many eyes upon them, especially those who are zealous in His service, they are taken notice of as beacons.” We must let our light shine before others, so that they may see our good works and give glory to our Father!
Before we finish, I want to share a few instances from just the past week or so of Christians who have decided to go into the highways and hedges to be salt and light.
A dear brother and close friend of mine shared the following instance of a hurting person encountering our very real God. This Christian brother was in a store just a few weeks ago. He noticed the young lady behind the counter had multiple piercings, tattoos, and she looked very depressed. He simply asked her if she was ok and if she would mind if he prayed with her and talked with her.
This young lady began to break down into tears and tell my friend that her boyfriend murdered someone right in front of their kids and he was going to jail for good. She was so distraught over the whole ordeal she was seriously considering ending her life. She said just a day or so prior to my friend asking to pray with her, she cried out to God for help!
My friend was simply being salt and light in this dark world. His mission field was right there at the local store. This brother told me that he made a recent decision to engage people right where they are like Jesus did and he asked God for more opportunities to do so. The truth, love, and reality of Jesus came crashing into this young lady’s broken life because my dear friend didn’t go on with his day, but showed the love of the Lord to someone who really needs it.
This same friend of mine was sitting in a restaurant with his wife. My friend noticed a man at the bar who was very agitated, angry, and drunk. He wasn’t going to talk to the guy but was led to anyway. At first, the man grew even more agitated but after a few moments, my friend got the guy to open up and he said he was at odds with his son and ready to put him out of the house, but the boy’s mother wouldn’t allow it.
Because of his son’s behavior, his patience was at an end. He was going to walk out of his marriage. My friend offered to pray with him and the man’s face went from one of complete anger to one of complete brokenness. My friend always says his ultimate goal is to bring these people into a relationship with Jesus and then other believers.
People lose jobs, get unwanted divorces, receive bad news from the doctor, find out a loved one has just died, lose their house, feel hated by their classmates, and are often just barely hanging on. These things happen every day to people all around us. They need lasting hope and it’s found only in Jesus. Christian friend, you may be the one to encourage someone to stay in a marriage.
You may help them replace suicidal thoughts for the reality of life lived for Jesus. You may get to explain to them the message of repentance, forgiveness, and eternal life through Jesus. Let’s not waste another moment. We need to be ready and willing to engage our friends, neighbors, classmates, coworkers, and everyone we contact with the good news.
People aren’t just people, everyone is important to the Lord. We have daily opportunities to love other Christians and we have the same opportunities to share the hope of salvation through Jesus with the lost. This isn’t the stuff of New Year’s resolutions or to get fired up about for a few weeks and to lose your compassion for souls shortly thereafter, it is the natural outflow of daily abiding and walking with Jesus.
I hope and pray that more believers will get beyond Sunday Christianity and be His witnesses from out neighborhoods to the ends of the earth. Our part in that great commission is closer than we may realize. Ask the Lord to open doors for more opportunities to be a witness for Him. God bless you are you go out to win the lost, make disciples, and love one another.
Matthew 25:35-40 – “For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.’ Then the righteous will answer him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?’ And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’”
All for Him,
Howard

The Way Things Work
It appears we are watching a revolution of sorts in our country, and for the first time in my lifetime, the Left appears to be back on its heels a bit. No one knows how the Trump era will play out, but for now, the Right is punching back at the Left.
I want to attempt in this week’s “Israel Watch” to explain how those on the Left operate in the culture. Keep in mind that while I don’t write exclusively about Israel this week, we must pay attention to how the next-generation (Millennials—18-to-35-year-olds) will view the Jewish state…unless they can be convinced of the justness of Zionism. In short, while older generations seem to have gotten a reprieve by dodging the bullet of a Hillary Clinton presidency, our children and grandchildren might face a future in the Great Delusion.
I noted with interest this week that Israel has decided yet again to be a moral force in this world. From Israel Hayom:
“Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Interior Minister Aryeh Deri on Wednesday approved a framework to enable some 100 Syrian children orphaned by the civil war in their country to find homes in Israel.
“According to Channel 10 News, foster families in the Arab sector would care for the children, and some may be placed in Arab-Israeli boarding schools.
“Once safe in Israel, authorities would make efforts to bring the children’s immediate families to Israel as well.
“During the course of the bloody civil war in Syria, which began in 2011, Israeli hospitals have often cared for wounded refugees.
“In a meeting with foreign journalists in December, Netanyahu revealed that he had instructed the Foreign Ministry to explore ways in which Israel can increase the medical assistance offered to Syrian civilian casualties and refugees fleeing Aleppo.”
Now, you won’t find the so-called “Progressive” Christians giving Israel any credit whatsoever for this. They will continue to be silent about positive news out of Israel and they will instead focus on fake news and bias to demonize the Jewish state. Think Lynne Hybels and her contention that Israel rations Palestinians’ water.
How do these people come to their conclusions? Why do they believe what they believe? I ran across a fascinating quote from the actor Matthew Modine:
“[On why he turned down Top Gun] As a kid, I was always taught the Russians were the bad guys, the Chinese would destroy the world… Then early in my career I was at the Berlin film festival and a guy took me to East Berlin. I saw a monument to Russian soldiers who died fighting Germany.
“The fact Russia was our ally in World War II was not part of my basic education. I met Russian soldiers and they were no different to my brothers who’d served in Vietnam. We shared cigarettes, they gave me pins from their uniforms. When I got home, the Top Gun script was waiting for me and I knew I just couldn’t perpetuate the lie.”
It’s difficult to know where to start with this. The gullibility of Hollywood’s actors is difficult to process. Matthew Modine decided that what he knew about the Cold War was bogus because he shared some smokes with Soviet soldiers?
Get a clue. How do you think Modine was able to travel to East Berlin? His lack of historical understanding is epic. He seems to think that the German people were lauding the Soviet troops and so erected a monument to them. Knock, knock, hello. Did he understand (or does he even now?) that East Berlin was then Soviet territory? Did the monument mention that Soviet troops raped and murdered millions of German citizens in Berlin in 1945?
I hope you see the vapid nature of Modine’s worldview, in his understanding of the Communists who sealed half of Europe behind an Iron Curtain for 45 years.
Point being, if you listen to young people on the Left today, you begin to understand how warped their worldviews are, and it’s easy to see why they believe that Israel is, as Bob Dylan sang, “The Neighborhood Bully” in the Middle East.
It is a complete inversion of the truth.
Now, you also need to understand a real danger point: the co-opting of the Evangelical Community in America by the Left. It is a furious agenda that most are unaware of, but should be monitoring.
In 2017, and for some time, the best-known evangelical leaders are silent in the pulpits when it comes to really telling people what’s going on, including the truth about Israel. These “leaders” are concerned only with maintaining their brands, their wealth, and their acceptance by the secular world. They are also fearful of losing their tax-exempt status, perhaps the most dangerous tool employed by the government. I believe these men are cowards. They are certainly standing-down while our young people are set upon by the packs of wolves leading the Left.
(When I refer to the “Left,” I am talking of course of people whose anti-biblical worldview supports abortion, “LGBT” rights, and totalitarianism around the globe, among other things.)
Let’s look at another example. Right now, the most famous evangelical leaders are pushing hard the idea that we need to open our arms wide to Middle East refugees.
It should be obvious to all that warnings by former CIA Director John Brennan and current FBI Director James Comey should be heeded: ISIS and other terror groups have thoroughly infiltrated “refugee” communities and only await the green-light to flood America. This is a reality, not a theory.
Look at Europe; Germany is gone. Great Britain might be gone, referred to as “Londonistan” by writers like Melanie Phillips. Do we want this in America? I don’t.
Evangelical change-agents like Ed Stetzer, Jen Hatmaker, and several Southern Baptists do however approve of large numbers of refugees coming ashore in America!
Recently Matt Chandler, pastor of The Village Church in Flower Mound, Texas, said: “The church must not buy into the fearful rhetoric about refugees.” This statement was tweeted by Matthew Soerens (U.S. director of Church Mobilization for World Relief), and “liked” by no less than Daniel Akin, president of Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary.
Stetzer is stoking the fires as well, trying to intimidate evangelicals to stand down and in fact advocate for bringing in large numbers of refugees.
Stetzer tweeted recently: “Too much of President Trump’s policy is driven by unfounded fear of refugees.”
Interestingly, Stetzer has received significant pushback on Twitter from evangelicals who do understand the dangers of allowing refugees into the U.S.
Hatmaker, a left-wing “evangelical,” tweeted: “Thank you @edstetzer. Refugees are among the most vulnerable, exploited people on earth.”
Hatmaker, of course, has become well known for her embrace of left-wing causes, including “LGBT” rights.
This is who mainstream evangelical leaders pal around with.
By the way, the reality is, the Left’s agenda for bringing in refugees is profoundly dangerous to America.
As Daniel Greenfield wrote in Frontpage:
“Most Islamic terrorists that the FBI has been dealing with had no specific terror plans at the time that they entered this country. Some Islamic terrorists, like the Tsarnaev perpetrators of the Boston Marathon bombing, came here as children. Others, like Omar Mateen, the Pulse shooter, and Nidal Hasan, the Fort Hood killer, contrived to be born in this country to foreign parents.
“Immigration screening has to do more than just ask terrorists to check a box if they plan to fly planes into our skyscrapers. We must identify visitors and immigrants who are at a high risk of becoming terrorists in the first or second generation. The only way to do this is with a holistic strategy that examines the worldview of new immigrants and the Islamic communities they intend to be part of.”
Unlike Stetzer (who comically answered one critic on Twitter that he’s written a book on Islam, due out next year! Pass), who just wants us to “trust us” on flooding the country with immigrants from the ME, Greenfield relies on hard data:
“For example, attendees at the infamous Dar Al-Hijrah mosque in Falls Church, Virginia included Nidal Hasan, its former Imam was Al Qaeda leader Anwar Al-Awlaki, and a number of key figures associated with the mosque were linked to Islamic terrorism. Any Muslim immigrants planning to attend the mosque could be considered at high risk for engaging in terrorism regardless of their stated views.
“Our current screening methods are laughably crude.”
Who do you believe? Ed Stetzer or researchers like Greenfield? I frankly wouldn’t trust Stetzer to get me a glass of water.
There are many, many other examples of leftist thought within Evangelicalism.
This week, I noticed a guest post on the blog site of Thom Rainer, president and CEO of LifeWay Christian Resources. Rainer is Stetzer’s former boss, and he also usually has a bone to pick with “trolls” and other critics of the leftward drift of evangelical leaders.
On Rainer’s blog, Jonathan Howe published his “Influencer’s List,” a regular compilation of change agents (my word) within evangelicalism. Notice just one of the people listed, Lore Wilbert. Howe lists describes her thusly: “Lore Wilbert (@lorewilbert) – Writer, Washington, DC — Lore writes for several online outlets and blogs at sayable.net”
At sayable.net, you can read the following:
“I feel less like a proud American than I ever have. But there, nestled amidst the sadness in my broken heart, there is a quiet and vibrant confidence: I cannot find a home in all of this, any of it, but I have a home in Him and what life in Him stands for: all of life in Him for all of life on earth.”
She also writes:
“I feel less like a proud American than I ever have.”
Here she apes the infamous view of Michelle Obama.
Please go to sayable.net and read her blog post, “Our Divided States.” If you can get through the smarmy and turgid writing, you’ll see that Wilbert is talking about a so-called “pro-all-life” sermon she heard. This refers to a movement among progressives who are attaching all sorts of other issues to the pro-life movement, including their advocacy for the abolition of capital punishment.
Here I’m giving you my opinion: I believe this is 100 percent an effort to push a left-wing social justice agenda, and they give lip service to abortion, so that they can push through abolishing capital punishment, bringing in millions of refugees, etc.
Do you see how these links and networks…work? Lore Wilbert is promoted by Jonathan Howe, who is promoted by SBC big Thom Rainer.
This is how left-wing thought has infiltrated Evangelicalism. You have no idea how deep and wide it is, I promise you.
Evangelical leaders are almost wholesale giving cover and platforms to left-wing “thought leaders.” You can see it in their conferences, their blogs, their resources offered.
It is also perhaps helpful to note that even the term “evangelical” has been stretched and changed. This is what totalitarians do: infiltrate and change word meanings, concepts, and then co-opt group thought. It is what Rick Warren has done through his Purpose-Driven stuff, and on a larger scale, what the Soviets did in large segments of American society beginning in the 1920’s. Their agents infiltrated religious, political, entertainment, and media circles.
The very same concept has been applied to American Evangelicalism.
I hope this gives you some picture into how attitudes are changing regarding Israel. What is today solid support for the Jewish state in America will tomorrow be a full-on embrace of the PLO and the worst enemies of Israel. We have already seen this in the views of Jimmy Carter. He was, however, in the minority. In another 25 years, his views will be mainstream.
This is how the Left works.
