Pregnant After a Brutal Rape and Encouraged to Abort, I Chose Life. Here’s What Happened to the Rapist

Pregnant After a Brutal Rape and Encouraged to Abort, I Chose Life. Here’s What Happened to the Rapist

OPINION   JENNIFER CHRISTIE   AUG 1, 2017   |   1:11PM    WASHINGTON, DC
The technical term is “survivors guilt”. It doesn’t sound especially technical, but I give it full points for accuracy. It could also be called “throw up and cry a lot” . . . because that’s what
I did when I heard about the next victim during phone call from an FBI agent who told me that the DNA collected during my rape kit three years earlier had returned a match.
The woman had been brutally raped and beaten to death. I thought back to the hotel housekeeper who found me unconscious in the stairwell, badly beaten and barely clothed. We always believed her presence saved my life — that my rapist never intended to leave me alive.
The FBI agent told me the murdered woman also had red hair — like me. I’m not sure that last detail was one I was supposed to know, but once it was uttered it dangled in the air before me like a key to Pandora’s box. If I opened it, I could potentially drown in a world of pain, in gut-wrenching questions: Did anyone call her their “Strawberry”? Was she around children who would play with her hair and ask her to sing “Part of your world”?
The FBI had not even contacted next of kin yet because she was a university foreign exchange student in Ohio. Would her family be told about me? Would they hate me for not being able to stop him, and for surviving? In that moment, I hated me for not being able to stop him.
I clung to this: There was no record of his DNA when I was attacked, and now there was. I did that. That had to count for something. . . . Didn’t it? Not enough, but something. It helped me to cope.
But then they found the next woman — their third redhead. My life suddenly felt like a poorly scripted made-for-TV movie.
“Find him”, I whispered on the phone. “Just stop him.”
“We’ll get him.” They assured me of this. They didn’t. But he WAS eventually “got.”.
Somehow they now had a lead, and DNA evidence to make an arrest. But the rapist was a native American, so I was told that would be a delay because local law enforcement had to work with tribal police to find this man on his reservation, and federal laws applied where they couldn’t just go and make an arrest.
Then I received the call — several states away, the rapist/murderer was stabbed to death by a fellow tribe member whose 13 year old sister had been raped nearly a decade earlier by this monster. Unable to live with the stigma and the pain, she took her life one year after the attack.
In ten years, her brother never gave up seeking justice for his sister. I wish I could shake his hand — not that I support vigilantism, but because my family and I have endured much of the same pain. I can’t ever reach out to him or his family though. My case has been closed and with that ends any connection to the rest of the story. I’ve done an Internet search with the sketchy details I had been given. The FBI won’t provide me anything further.
I don’t know specifically what tribe the rapist was from. I have no idea what tribe my son –who was conceived when I was raped — has blood ties to. I still wonder if I may be able to find out one day. I think it’s information my son will probably want to have.
I also don’t know the real name of my attacker — only the alias he was using at the time. I don’t know the identities of the other victims. I won’t know how many women there were in total, or if cold cases will be solved. I also won’t ever know if this man’s death helps to bring any peace to the families of the two women sIain. I won’t know the end to everyone’s story. I only know the end to this chapter of mine.
As far as that goes? Hearing that he was gone, I exhaled a breath I didn’t know I’d been holding — and three years is a long time to hold your breath. I felt such a weight lift from my chest that I thought I might float away. The relief was dizzying. It still is.
I’m safe. My son is safe. I’ll never have to face my worst nightmare in court or recount, in excruciating detail, everything he did . . . things I’ve learned from my doctors, things I’ve tried so hard to forget.
Equally as important — and this is going to be hard for some people to understand — somehow with him gone and no longer a threat, he becomes someone I can begin to forgive, someone I have to forgive. When he was at large, still tearing apart lives, I justified holding onto anger, and even hatred. That hurts me though. It damages my spirit. I believe God tells us to forgive for several reasons — one being the freedom it gives us. And I want to be set free.
So I’m letting that happen. For me. For my family. For my God. I’m letting it happen.
Forgiveness isn’t a “once and done” thing — rarely, if ever. I imagine this is going to be something I’ll need to actively forgive, repeatedly, daily, probably several times a day, for the rest of my life. That’s okay. There is much to be learned in the process.
I guess I’m choosing a path of forgiveness. That’s the only thing that makes my story one of “choice” though. It’s a story about my son — about his life, which is a life he never asked for.
You might wonder, now knowing the depth and breadth of the man’s evil, how it changes the way I feel about my little boy. It doesn’t. My son was never a “rapist’s baby” or a “product of rape”. He’s my child. He’s my husband’s child.. He’s a child of God.
Why should he bear the anger and vitriol intended for his biological “father”? And to the point of death? We hold ourselves up as a great civilized society yet tear apart our most vulnerable and innocent when they’re inconvenient or evoke bad memories.
Some people read my story and want to hold me up as an example of a good person. It’s a kind thought, but I’m not a good person because I kept my baby. I’ve been called amazing. . . . Amazing? Think about that for a moment. I take into consideration the writer’s heart when commenting and I’m blessed by every encouraging word, but I ask you to think about that one. I’m an “amazing woman” because I love my son?! How offended would you be if I applauded you for loving your child? I don’t see my baby any differently than you see yours.
I’m a deeply flawed human being, not too different from most. I became pregnant. I had a child. That’s really all there is to it.
I recently read a comment under one of my articles which simply asked “Why is this a story?” Exactly — it shouldn’t be! In a better world, it wouldn’t be. I’ll keep telling my story until it isn’t.

Pro-Lifers are Working to Make Kentucky the First State to be Abortion Free

Pro-Lifers are Working to Make Kentucky the First State to be Abortion Free

STATE   MICAIAH BILGER   AUG 1, 2017   |   6:45PM    LOUISVILLE, KY
Pro-life advocates hope to end abortion completely in Kentucky now that just one abortion clinic remains in the state.
Last week, Operation Save America held a large pro-life conference in Louisville where they stood and ministered to people daily outside EMW Women’s Clinic, the last abortion facility in the state.
Pro-life advocates and sidewalk counselors are effective in helping women choose life for their unborn babies. Last week, pro-lifers with Operation Save America prayed and sang outside the facility in peaceful and loving outreach to women and unborn babies. Their witness may have been a last line of hope for women and unborn babies before they walked into the Louisville abortion facility.
However, a judge set up a temporary buffer zone blocking leaders of the pro-life groupfrom coming within 15 feet of the abortion facility after several were arrested for blocking the entrance in May.
The move, however, may have misjudged the nature of OSA’s rally.  Sitting in the back of their nightly gatherings at Evangel World Prayer Center last week, it was hard not to notice the numerical preponderance of families with young children—a five-year-old playing with her father’s big beard, a boy, about seven, climbing his little brother’s stroller, a mother in the back nursing her infant child.

Suffice it to say, no attempt was made last week to block entrance to EMW. But other means were used—and are continuing to be used—to make Kentucky the first abortion-free state.
During the May protest, Rusty Thomas, the national director of Operation Save America, said they knew they might be arrested, but they took the chance because they wanted to save babies’ lives from abortion through interposition.
“Now interposition takes place when one stands in the gap between the oppressor and the intended victim. And by standing in the gap, rescues the victim from the oppressor’s hand,” Thomas said.
This week, the group won a victory against the buffer zone. Christian Net reports the federal government withdrew its motion to permanently create a buffer zone to block pro-lifers.
According to the report:
Representatives for the abortion facility testified that the buffer zone was necessary because abortion opponents are violent. However, the case began to fall apart when it became clear that there was no evidence of violence—or the threat of it—at the facility, and that the claim could not be supported.
According to Heuser, EMW Women’s Clinic director Anne Ahola admitted that Rusty Thomas, the national leader of Operation Save America, who had been among the 11 arrested in May for sitting in front of the doors, even went inside the facility and “shared love of Jesus, and she came out of the secure area of the clinic to talk face to face with him and they exchanged a hug.”
Kentucky Gov. Matt Bevin also has been dedicated to protecting unborn babies and moms from abortion. He cracked down on abortion facilities that were operating outside of the law. Earlier this year, EMW’s sister abortion facility in Lexington shut down after Bevin’s administration caught it masquerading as a doctor’s office.
State investigators also said they found numerous health and safety violations at the abortion clinic, including a “significant quantity” of expired medication, medical equipment covered in dust, dirt and grime; and improper sanitation. It also did not have emergency agreements with a local hospital and ambulance service, as required by law, according to the state’s lawsuit.
In February 2016, Bevin’s administration also sued a new Planned Parenthood abortion facility in Louisville after catching it performing 23 abortions without a license, LifeNews reported. Planned Parenthood’s lawyer contended that former pro-abortion Gov. Steve Beshear’s administration gave the abortion facility the OK to do abortions without a license, and wanted the lawsuit to be dismissed.
“This administration will have no tolerance for the type of brazen disregard that Planned Parenthood has shown for both the safety of women and the rule of law,” Bevin said at the time. “We will hold Planned Parenthood accountable for knowingly endangering their patients by providing illegal abortions at a facility that was not properly licensed nor prepared to handle an emergency.”
As fewer women have abortions, fewer abortionists find the practice lucrative and more pro-lifers share the truth about unborn babies, there is continued hope that Kentucky could become a state free from the oppression of abortion.

15-Year-Old Raped By Her Cousins Will Not Abort Her 8-Month-Old Unborn Baby

15-Year-Old Raped By Her Cousins Will Not Abort Her 8-Month-Old Unborn Baby

INTERNATIONAL   MICAIAH BILGER   AUG 1, 2017   |   12:19PM    NEW DELHI, INDIA
A 15-year-old teenager in India will not abort her unborn baby after enduring months of sexual abuse allegedly at the hands of her cousins.
NDTV reports the victim, who is not named in reports, is from Haryana, India. Her mother recently took her to the doctor after the teen began complaining of stomach pain, and the examination revealed that she was eight months pregnant.
She will not abort her unborn baby. Her pregnancy already is past the 20-week abortion ban in India. At eight months, her unborn baby already is fully developed and likely to survive outside the womb.
The teen said her pregnancy is the result of being raped repeatedly by her cousins. She said they also threatened to kill her parents if she told anyone about the abuse.
Here’s more from the report:
The residents of Sonipat’s Mahipur village, her chacha’s (uncle) sons, one a minor and the other an 18-year-old, not just allegedly raped her, but also threatened her that they would kill her parents if she reported the matter to anybody.
She told her mother that her cousins first raped her in December last year. She was alone at home and had gone to dry clothes on the terrace when the duo, Suraj and Ajeet, allegedly raped her. Since then, the girl alleges, she has been raped multiple times by them.
Police said they arrested the younger cousin; however, they still are searching for the 18-year-old cousin.
Sexual abuse has become rampant in India. According to the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), 93 women are raped in India every day, and most of the victims know their perpetrators. The NCRB reports the women typically are between 18 and 30 years old (15,556) and 14 and 18 years old (8,877).

It also has become increasingly common for victims or their families to request an exception to the late-term abortion ban. The Supreme Court of India has heard several cases in the past few years involving young pregnant girls who are victims of rape.
The high court has granted several exceptions and prohibited others. Just last week, the high court spared a 32-week unborn baby and its 10-year-old mother from abortion. The 10-year-old girl became pregnant after she allegedly was raped by her uncle, the Deccan Herald reports. Doctors who examined her said it is in her best interest to give birth to the child.
In May, however, the Supreme Court of India granted permission for another 10-year-old rape victim to have an abortion when she was about 20 weeks pregnant. In that case, the girl’s stepfather allegedly raped her.
Dr. Ashok Chauhan, a panelist in the case, described the situation as “borderline” because the girl was approximately 20 weeks pregnant. The panel also mentioned concerns about the young girl’s physical and mental health.
Similarly, in 2015, the court gave an exception to a 14-year-old rape victim who was past 20 weeks pregnant. At the time, the BBC reported a team of doctors decided the girl was not physically or emotionally fit to have a baby.
As LifeNews previously reported, the first judge involved in the case, Abhilasha Kumari, ruled differently. He said it was a difficult decision but concluded that the unborn baby is innocent just like the victim.
Kumari said: “Whatever be the circumstances in which the child was conceived, whatever the trauma of the young mother, the fact remains that the child is also not to blame for being conceived. It did not ask to be born. The child is innocent, just like the victim, its mother.”
However, the country’s Supreme Court overturned his ruling and allowed the unborn baby to be aborted.
At 20 weeks, an unborn baby already is fully formed and close to the point of viability (about 23 weeks). Late-term abortions also are risky and can be deadly for the mother as well as her unborn child.
