France's president explicitly intends the move to stifle religious instruction of children.

October 2, 2020 (LifeSiteNews) — French president Emmanuel Macron announced on Friday morning that he intends to outlaw homeschooling for all children except those who have a health condition that would justify staying away from school. He also intends to step up control on private independent schools that receive no public funds, in particular through inspections on the curricula taught there, by more severely implementing a recent law that requires such schools to teach a “common core” defined by a high authority for education.

The new law would come into force in the school year 2021–2022 for all children aged between 3 and 16. It was already under Macron’s presidency that education became compulsory for tots of infant school age. With a comfortable majority at the National Assembly, the ruling La République en Marche party, which Macron led to victory in 2017, is expected to validate the draft law the government will present in accordance with the president’s wishes.

Macron’s announcements were part of a series of measures aimed at fighting what he calls “separatism,” a strange expression he uses to designate the aims of “radical Islamists” who want to substitute the laws of the French Republic with sharia law. He quoted the example of a clandestine school where young Muslims were found in a plain, almost windowless room, taught by women in niqabs and learning mostly prayers and the Koran, in order to justify his wide-ranging attack against freedom of education.

Emmanuel Macron was speaking at a public event in Les Mureaux, one of the many suburban towns around Paris where immigrants from many countries, mostly in North Africa and sub-Saharan Africa, form the majority. Les Mureaux was the theater of ethnic riots in 2005 and has since been considered a hotspot for radical Islam, with the shooting of a police commander and his girlfriend in 2016 in an attack claimed by the Islamic State. Many of these migrants are Muslim: Muslims represent anything from 4 to 8 or 9 million souls in France, according to different sources. Repeatedly, terrorist attacks in France have been committed in the name of Allah by such migrants, legal or not.

According to Lionel Devic, president of the “Fondation pour l’Ecole,” an association that supports the creation and functioning of independent schools in France, “it is clearly established that not a single perpetrator of terrorist attacks in France came from independent schools.” In his statement, he added that “Emmanuel Macron lucidly acknowledged that Islamist separatism can be traced back to public schools and private schools under contract with the state.”

However, it seems clear that measures against civil liberties — one of the first of which is the right of parents as primary educators of their own children — are increasingly being undermined. The COVID-19 crisis has already accustomed many people to government interference with their comings and goings, wearing masks and generally feeling at fault whenever they step outside. This new infringement on personal rights and liberties will seem a small one to a large majority who have already handed over their educational rights to the State, which controls the vast majority of educational institutions at all levels, while “free schools” under contract with the state, which account for most of the official Catholic schools in France, are required to follow the public curriculum in exchange for having their teachers and professors paid for by public funds.

In his lengthy speech, Macron set the debate by saying: “The problem is this ideology, which asserts that its own laws are superior to those of the Republic. As I have often said, I am not asking any of our citizens to believe or not to believe, to believe a little, or moderately. That is not the business of the Republic. But I am asking every citizen, whatever his religion or absence of religion, to respect absolutely all the laws of the Republic.”

He was speaking about Islam, but the subject goes wider than that. Since the separation of Church and State in 1905, after the restoration, and in light of the anti-Catholic laws that followed the deeply secularist and anti-Catholic Revolution of 1789, there exists a dichotomy between the “secular” Republic and the natural moral laws that believers judge to be higher than laws enacted by a majority of voters or legislators.

This is true, for instance, of laws that facilitate divorce, legalize contraception, decriminalize abortion, or establish “same-sex marriage,” to name but a few. The powers that be have repeatedly denied citizens the right to oppose these majority decisions, in particular by banning a wide range of actions aiming to prevent or discourage abortion. The demand for “absolute” respect for the laws of the Republic should be read in that light. Former president Jacques Chirac, who would later be echoed in more or less the same terms by Marine Le Pen, stated this very clearly: “No to a moral law that would supersede the civil law.”

By using this reasoning, Macron has clearly chosen to lump very different types of believers together: instead of pledging to track down and overpower historically violent, radical Islam, which as a religious system does not distinguish between the temporal and the spiritual, and which entered into France through massive, politically uncontrolled immigration, he is targeting homeschooling and independent schools that many Catholics have turned to — as well as parents who have watched in desperation as their children spent months and years in official schools with official methods not learning to read, write, and do arithmetic. As luck would have it, it was only last Friday that an official government report showed that standards in mathematics in government and government-funded primary schools have plummeted between 2014 and 2019 in fifth grade.

Macron complained of “illegal,” “undeclared” schools where children are receiving poor instruction and ideological programming; he denounced the parents who pull them from music or swimming classes in State schools. But he is using them as an excuse to exercise ever more control on perfectly legal homeschooling and independent education.

Today, some 50,000 students of compulsory education age are homeschooled in France. Officially, parents are required to tell the local authorities that they are homeschooling their child or children, and they will typically be visited once a year by academic inspectors. They are allowed to homeschool only their own children; parents are not allowed to club together to give group lessons. The numbers of homeschooled children are rising every year, as Macron noted in his speech; he is therefore going against the trend that clearly indicates what French parents want.

Roughly the same number of students go to fully independent schools, many of which are primary schools where reading and writing and other subjects are often taught in a traditional way. A number of these schools are Catholic, even though Islamic and Jewish and even secular independent schools do exist, and they often “save” children from public schools who were floundering unhappily in “whole language” schemes that one commentator, Benoît Neiss, emeritus professor at the University of Strasbourg, accused of provoking “the abortion of the mind.”

Macron’s objective is by no means hidden. During his speech, he outlined his strategy against radical islam — by means of which and under whose pretext he is in fact attacking primary parental freedoms and rights, especially those of Catholic parents. He said:

The third pillar of our strategy is school. It is oh, so essential, and you can see that as I move forward, I am entering, if I may say so, into the intimacy of our republican life. School is the republican melting pot. It’s what makes it possible for us to protect our children in a complete way from any religious sign, from religion. It is truly the heart of the space of secularism, and it is this place where we form consciences so that children become free, rational citizens, able to choose their own lives. The school is therefore our collective treasure. It is what allows us in our society to build this common thing that is the Republic.

Macron said very clearly that the school of the Republic aims “to protect children from religion.” You read that correctly. This is Masonic naturalism in its most recognizable form.

He added:

On this subject, in the face of all these excesses that exclude thousands of children from education to citizenship, from access to culture, to our history, to our values, to the experience of otherness that is at the heart of the republican school, I have made a decision — and I realize this, and we have debated it a lot with the ministers — that is no doubt one of the most radical since the laws of 1882 and those ensuring school co-education between boys and girls in 1969. From the start of the 2021 school year, school instruction will be made compulsory for all from the age of 3. Homeschooling will be strictly limited, particularly to health reasons. We are therefore changing our paradigm, and it is vital.

In the same vein, he said: “The Republic was built around the school, which trains more than individuals; it raises citizens, it shapes free minds. That is why I am convinced that the Republic will resist, through schools, those who want to fight or divide it, and it is through schools that we will allow all our children to access knowledge, culture, and republican civic-mindedness, and thus to fully become men and women citizens.”

URGENT PETITION: Tell the Supreme Court to overturn Roe v. Wade! Sign the petition here.

October 2, 2020 (LifeSiteNews) – If you’re looking for cutting-edge, political analysis, this is not the article for you. If you’re looking for the latest insights on the presidential elections, you’re in the wrong place. But if you’re looking for spiritual wisdom and encouragement, if you want to be uplifted and inspired, then keep reading. This article is for you.

The fact is that 2020 has been an exhausting year.

We were already worn out as a country before COVID-19.

The constant political tension, culminating in the impeachment hearings, was wearying.

The continual flood of sensational news, coming from all sides, was wearying.

The deepening divisions in our society, revealing massive fissures ready to split, were wearying.

Then we got hit by the virus. (In case you missed it, it’s still here.)

Then we had the lockdown.

Then George Floyd was killed.

Then the protests. And the riots. And the looting. And the vandalism. And the shootings.

One day Minneapolis was in flames. Then Kenosha. Then Louisville.

One day it’s masked rioters, marching into our suburbs. The next day, we can’t leave our houses without a mask. (If your computer or phone has facial recognition, you have to take down your mask just to identify yourself to your own gadgets.)

As for our normal distractions, like going out to eat or watching sports, most of them disappeared for months on end as well. And the end is not yet in sight.

What if there is a vaccine? Should we take it? Will it be safe? Or is it part of some government ploy to monitor our lives? Or is this just Big Pharma’s way of making more money?

Is there anyone we can trust? The medical profession? The FBI? The media? Spiritual leaders?

Yes, this is America in 2020, and frankly, it is exhausting.

Added to all this is the ticking time bomb of the November 3 elections. The first Trump-Biden debate underscored the chaotic nature of the hour, and there is no guarantee that on November 4 anything will be settled.

Even when the votes are finally counted, will either side concede with grace? Will multiplied tens of millions of Americans (again, on either side) accept the results and move on?

You might say to me, “I thought you were going to encourage and uplift me! I’m feeling much worse now than when I started this column. Thanks for nothing!”

Well, here comes the encouragement in just four short words: lift up your eyes.

Lift up your eyes and look to the one who never changes and is never shaken or moved.

Lift up your eyes and look to the one who is perfect light, without any darkness at all.

Lift up your eyes and look to the one who sits enthroned in heaven, ruling and reigning over all creation.

Lift up your eyes and look to the one who cares so deeply for you that He sent His one and only Son into the world to die so that you and I could live forever.

Look away from the chaos and pain of the moment. Look away from the confusion and despair of the hour. Look away from the division and dissension of this age. And look up.

Look up and worship the King.

Look up and worship the one who is love personified.

Look up to the Savior and Redeemer.

Then, rather than complaining or gossiping or spouting off, begin to worship.

If you need some words to say, try these, saying them out loud if you can:

“Bless the LORD, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless his holy name! Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits, who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit, who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy, who satisfies you with good so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.” (Psalm 103:1–5)

Or maybe these: “Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise!” (Revelation 5:12; try repeating this a few more times!)

You see, the Bible recognizes that many times, we will feel overwhelmed by the pressures of life, be they financial or emotional or physical or spiritual or relational. That’s why there are so many prayers of desperation found in books like the Psalms, with words like these: “From the ends of the earth I call to you, I call as my heart grows faint; lead me to the rock that is higher than I.” (Psalm 61:2)

That “rock” is the Lord Himself, and when we stand firm on His foundation, we will not be moved. Our perspective will dramatically change.

I lift up my eyes to the mountains — where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. He will not let your foot slip— he who watches over you will not slumber; indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord watches over you — the Lord is your shade at your right hand; the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night. The Lord will keep you from all harm — he will watch over your life; the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.” (Psalm 121:1-8)

So, look away from the craziness of 2020, lift up your eyes, and begin to worship.

Your heart will be lightened. Your resolve will be strengthened. Your spirit will be encouraged. Your courage will be renewed, and rather than looking for a way to escape, you’ll be looking for a way to serve and love others.

Lift up your eyes!

October 2, 2020 (LifeSiteNews) — I am following the little information we have so far about how President Trump and his wife Melania are being treated for their Wuhan virus infection. I find it alarming that Trump is not being treated with the protocols that numerous physicians have been successfully using for their COVID-infected patients. What on Earth is going on?

Trump's physician is quoted in Breitbart News saying, “The president received a single 8 gram does of Regeneron’s polyclonal antibody cocktail as well as zinc, Vitamin D, famotidine, melatonin, and a daily aspirin.” That’s all?

Breitbart states the Regeneron polyclonal antibody cocktail “is being studied in four late-stage clinical trials and its safety and efficacy have not been fully evaluated by any regulatory authority.” That is not at all encouraging. Why are they using a drug for “late-stage trials” when Trump is frequently tested, was only just found to be positive and is in an "early stage" of the disease that logically calls for Hydroxychloroquine plus zinc and an antibiotic that produces excellent results in early stages?

He should have immediately been put on the hydroxychloroquine protocol that the Frontline Doctors, epidemic and anthrax specialist Dr. Meryl Nass, renowned Yale professor of epidemiology Dr. Harvey Risch, U.S. doctor Stephen Smith and numerous doctors in other nations, doctors in India, the renowned French professor Dr. Didier Raoult, and many more — all insist the evidence is “overwhelming” that this protocol is amazingly effective in correct, early use treatment of COVID-infected patients.

It is reckless that this is not being done because there is no risk to giving it to Trump even if the medical bureaucrats still ridiculously refuse to believe that Hydroxychloroquine is effective. I mean, how many thousands more lives have to be saved and how many thousands more people have to personally testify that they would not still be alive but for the courageous, caring doctors who went out on a limb and gave then this drug, before these stubborn bureaucrats finally get out of the way of real medicine?

Hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) has a 65-year record of exceptional safety and is considered to be less dangerous than aspirin or Tylenol. The African continent has an unusually low COVID death rate. What none of the media is telling you is that the cause of this low rate is that HCQ is very commonly used and available over the counter, without a doctor’s prescription, in Africa for malaria prevention.

There was yet another study that came out yesterday claiming that HCQ is not effective for COVID treatment. That study can’t possibly be accurate, or else the large number of doctors regularly saving patients with HCQ are all liars and their very alive, previously infected patients don’t really exist.

Every single study so far that has claimed that the HCQ protocol is either ineffective or dangerous has proven to be a fake study. Three of the most prestigious medical journals in the world have published such trash. Two retracted their “peer-reviewed” studies (which was unprecedented) and the third still hasn’t yet retracted a bad study against HCQ even though a criminal investigation is underway against its authors.

Such retractions of any such “studies” or articles should always be expected because the numerous physicians correctly using the protocol have had spectacular success treating real patients every day. The fact that HCQ was suddenly suppressed in the US, Canada and many European nations since near the beginning of the pandemic, after several decades of no suppression, is criminal.

Some people should be charged and jailed for what they have done on this and a number of physicians have called for just that action. There are already some ongoing criminal actions and lawsuits related to this unjust, very harmful suppression.

That suppression has has cost possibly hundreds of thousands of lives, and I don’t want to see its suppression also cost the life of the president of the United States or his wonderful wife.

Every hour and day that giving this treatment for Trump is delayed makes it more likely that HCQ will not be able to help him. It has to be given early in the infection.

Some doctors have also been having great success using another inexpensive treatment being promoted by U.S. Dr. Richard Bartlett. He has been using a 20-year-old, reliable medication treatment for over 1,000 of his COVID-infected patients with 100% effectiveness. It involves an economical, Nebulizer-delivered, inhaled Budesonide steroid normally used to treat asthma. Some doctors have been using both the HCQ protocol along with the Budesonide steroid where both might be warranted.

In both cases, the intent has been to quickly treat the virus before the infection worsens and the patient has to go to a hospital. That’s called outpatient treatment.

Trump should never have had to go to Walter Reed Hospital. He should also have continued to take the prophylactic dose of HCQ that he was on for about a month some time ago and for which he was severely criticized by Democrats, the media and others who simply despise everything that he does. He is an obvious candidate for the daily prophylactic dose given his age, heavy weight and the many large events he attends and many people he is always meeting.

It appears that someone got to the president and convinced him to discontinue taking the Hydroxychloroquine. That really worried me. It is highly likely he would not have received a positive test if he had continued the low, very safe preventative dose along with a daily capsule of zinc, vitamin D and a few capsules during every day of vitamin C.

It is criminal that neither of these well-proven-in-practice medications are being heavily promoted and that all restrictions or bureaucratic discouragements against them have not been removed.

Dr. Simone Gold, the founder of the Frontline Doctors group, has said there has been “shocking, deep corruption and deception that has resulted in desperately needed, life-saving COVID infection treatments being suppressed since the pandemic began.” She, along with other doctors, has called this a “criminal” “massive disinformation campaign” against the life-saving ability of hydroxychloroquine to cure the Chinese coronavirus.

Contact the White House to ask why the president and Melania are not immediately being given this well-proven-in-practice medication protocol for COVID infection.
