God remains sovereign over human history. Persecution will increase. Wars and rumors of wars will abound. But Jesus assured us not to let our hearts be troubled. Despite the enemy’s scheming, the Lord’s plans will unfold exactly as Scripture foretells. We can take great comfort that God retains complete control over the speedometer of history. The Lord knows the future, and He guides the world steadily towards that end point. Our goal with Tipping Point is to continue to direct you toward that truth as we add context to current events. For a paid subscription of just $7 a month—less than most Netflix plans—you’ll be able to read and comment on many more posts each week, including our full videos, articles and other great benefits. Every subscription helps support our ministry. Here are seven things to be thinking about this weekend. 1. Wisdom from ScriptureMy eyes shall be on the faithful of the land, 2. Quote to Consider“I am a pastor at the deepest part of my identity. I love people and want to help them in the best way I possibly can. That is why I want you to know the truth about the return of the Lord. That is the reason I continue to teach and preach about it. It is central to the Good News God wants people to hear, so I want people to hear it too. I believe what the Bible says about the end times and the return of Christ. I believe the Good News is exceptionally good news to those who love the Lord and are called according to His purpose (see Romans 8:28). It is for our comfort, not for our terror.” [from my book Look Up! Awaiting the Rapture and Our Final Redemption] 3. Pay Attention to This NewsA bipartisan group of Republicans and Democrats in the House of Representatives voted on a bill to sanction the International Criminal Court for seeking arrest warrants for Benjamin Netanyahu and other Israeli officials last month. A total of 205 GOP lawmakers and 42 House Democrats voted in favor of the bill. Those Democrats voted for it despite pressure from the White House, which is opposed to the bill. The Biden administration released a statement saying it would not support sanctions against the ICC because “there are more effective ways to defend Israel…and promote international justice and accountability.” The bill now passes to the Senate. 4. Comment of the Week“I love that you tell us it is ok to wrestle with God. I find too many Christians who think it is blasphemy to get mad at God or even question Him. I’m so glad that I have learned that God loves us so much that He wants us to come to Him with all of our heart which includes the pain, anger, and, disappointment. He already knows and it only hurts us more if we try to hide it.” 5. Prayer of the Week“Besides this you know the time, that the hour has come for you to wake from sleep. For salvation is nearer to us now than when we first believed.”—Romans 13:11 (ESV) Eternal God, instill urgency across Your Church because we live on borrowed time. Ignite blazing passion within young and old to leverage influence, talents, and resources to advance Christ’s Kingdom. Teach us to live each day focused on eternity as we await Your glorious throne. In Jesus’ name, Amen. 6. Link of the WeekMore than a million Methodists living in the west African nation Cote d’Ivoire (the Ivory Coast) have left the United Methodist Church after UMC delegates in the United States voted to repeal the denomination’s ban on LGBTQ clergy. Last month, during its General Conference in North Carolina, delegates voted 692-51 to remove a rule that forbids “self-avowed practicing homosexuals” from ordination or being appointed as ministers. The change doesn’t necessarily affirm LGBTQ clergy, but indicates that such clergy members are no longer forbidden in the denomination. The Ivory Coast division of the UMC is its largest jurisdiction overseas. 7.
