In a stunning move, Republican Representative Anna Paulina Luna of Florida has introduced a resolution to expel Representative Adam Schiff from the House of Representatives in the wake of the recently released report by special counsel John Durham, which revealed that Schiff repeatedly lied about alleged collusion between former President Donald Trump's 2016 campaign and Russia.
For years, Schiff has been at the center of controversy, making claims of having "evidence" of collusion while launching multiple investigations into the matter. Luna firmly stated, "Adam Schiff lied to the American people. He used his position on House Intelligence to push a lie …that abused the trust placed in him as Chairman. He is a dishonor to the House of Representatives. The Durham Report makes clear that the Russian Collusion was a lie from day one, and Schiff knowingly used his position in an attempt to divide our country."
Schiff, known for his vocal opposition to former President Trump, responded to the motion on Twitter, claiming it was an act of retribution by MAGA forces seeking payback. However, the seriousness of the allegations against Schiff cannot be dismissed, as they have gained support within the Republican party, including from House Speaker Kevin McCarthy.
The report has triggered widespread criticism, particularly from Republicans who had long suspected that the collusion narrative was a hoax. The revelation that top officials, including former President Barack Obama, then-Vice President Joe Biden, and heads of intelligence agencies, were aware of Clinton's plan to smear Trump with the Russia Hoax has raised further scrutiny.
John Daniel Davidson, senior editor at The Federalist, commented on the report, stating, "The Russia-collusion hoax was concocted and brought to life only because the most powerful people in the U.S. intelligence and law enforcement community wanted an excuse to weaponize the federal government against Donald Trump."
One of the report's significant revelations was the FBI's decision to launch the Crossfire Hurricane investigation into the Trump campaign in 2016 without any evidence of collusion. This revelation, coupled with the knowledge that high-ranking officials, including President Obama, were aware of the false nature of the narrative, has raised serious concerns about the abuse of power within the government.
