Gary Varvel: An evening with CNN's Scott JenningsA lesson in courage and common sense, paid subscribers get an archive cartoon
Scott Jennings was the keynote speaker at the Johnson County, Indiana GOP Lincoln Day Dinner on May 2nd. Jennings is CNN’s lone common sense conservative on its highest-rated show, CNN NewsNight with Abby Phillip. GOP county chairman Beth Boyce was nice enough to sit me next to Jennings during dinner. We talked about his career which started on the radio when he was just 15 years old. His journey included serving as political director for President George W. Bush's 2000 Kentucky campaign, as campaign manager for Sen. Mitch McConnell's 2002 re-election campaign and a 10-year stint as a Louisville Courier Journal columnist. I drew a caricature of Jennings surrounded by crocodiles because every night he faces off with 5 or 6 leftists. But then he calmly destroys their arguments with common sense.
