The Swedish foreign minister accused Saudi Arabia of blocking her speech at an Arab League meeting Monday due to her stance on human rights in the region, Swedish media reported.
"The explanation we have been given is that Sweden has highlighted the situation for democracy and human rights and that is why they do not want me to speak," Foreign Minister Margot Wallstroem told news agency TT in Cairo.
"It's a shame that a country has blocked my participation."
An Arab diplomat confirmed to Agence France Presse that Riyadh had stopped the Swede from making her opening speech.
Wallstroem had been invited as an honorary guest to the Arab ministers' meeting in praise of her government's decision to recognise Palestine in October.
Her cancelled opening speech -- published by the Swedish foreign ministry -- mentioned neither Saudi Arabia nor Wallstroem's feminist foreign policy agenda but stressed women's and human rights.
"Freedom of association, assembly, religion and expression are not only fundamental rights and important tools in the creation of vibrant societies," it read and noted that "women's rights do not only benefit women, but society as a whole."
Wallstroem has rarely commented on Saudi Arabia but in January she slammed the kingdom's treatment of blogger Raef Badawi, who had been sentenced to 1,000 lashes and 10 years in prison for insulting Islam.
"One must protest against what are nearly mediaeval methods" of punishment, Wallstroem told TT.
Yet her country has a decade-long arms-trading deal with Riyadh which is due for renewal for another five years in May.
The deal has come under fire within Wallstroem's Social Democrats, while their Green Party coalition partners oppose it categorically.

The ultimate message of this movie is that if we ever permit corporations, such as Monsanto and Walmart, to rule the world, we will be living in a “hell on earth” scenario. Quite obviously, the movie was 40 years ahead of its time and its predictive value as to the state of today’s world was enormous. This is what our planet will soon look like.
Transferring the American Economy to a Corporate, Rollerball Style of Dictatorship
When something is secret and kept from you, it is usually very bad for you! As America races toward her date with destiny, there is yet another “fundamentally transforming” event coming her way and that event is known as the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP). The TPP is a plot designed to hand over control of the world’s governments to private corporate interests and it is all being done in secret. Even Congress is not allowed to examine the TPP provisions.
Under the TPP, for example, GMO labels for US food would not be allowed. To make matters worse, there is an obscure portion of the TPP and other trade agreements which is so diabolical, so devastating, that the planet will eventually resemble the movie, Rollerball, in which a small number of corporations will rule the planet.
Many of us in the media believe that some of the effects of the TPP will be felt before the coming war and martial law crackdown. However, after careful analysis, I am convinced that the brunt of the TPP will be felt after the America we know has been totally taken over in a post-war and post-economic collapse scenario. In other words, following World War III, the United Nations, as a body, will be replaced with the United Corporations. At the end of the day, it does not matter when the implementation of the TPP comes, because when it does, America will no longer be recognizable to anyone who has grown up in this once great country. The reason that America will no longer be recognizable is because America will no longer exist because of a key provision contained in the TPP.
Within a few short years, following implementation of the TPP, which will surely grow from the 40% of the world’s population that it will soon control as it will eventually encompass 100% of the planet. The TPP will eliminate all nation states as the ruling authority and it will be supplanted by corporate authority. This will be made possible because of an obscure provision of the TPP known as the Investor State Dispute Settlement (ISDS). ISDS is a key component of the TPP. Unfortunately, for the planet, ISDS principles are being negotiated as I write these words, outside of the TPP, in ongoing trade deals between the United States and the European Union. ISDS allows corporations to sue governments, for any government action (at any level, including local government level) which hinders a corporation’s future profits. Literally, Monsanto could provably be poisoning the entire population of a nation and the nation could do nothing which might result in the loss of profits to Monsanto. This also means that as a private citizen, if you organize a boycott against Monsanto, you could be sued in a foreign court for obstructing Monsanto profits.
If a corporation feels that a government has impeded its ability to maximize profits, a suit is filed, outside the country being sued, and the case will be heard by an arbitration panel of trade lawyers, in a jurisdiction totally of the corporation’s choosing. Under ISDS, the dispute panel may only consider the ‘free trade’ values of the case. No other factors may be considered when deciding the case. This means that these corporate panels must disregard values of public health, civil liberties, environmental protection, or the rights of workers (e.g. working conditions) or any other Constitutionally protected liberties.
Conclusion
ISDS will primarily be enacted through the TPP legal process. However, the corporations, growing impatient with the progress of implementation of the TPP have begun to include ISDS in most trade talks on the planet. This means the end of the nation state as we know it and before you applaud the demise of corrupt governments, consider what we are replacing national governments with. We should be reminded of Einstein’s quote about World War III when he said “I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones.” We could adapt Einstein’s quote to something like, “I know not what nations will begin World War III, but World War IV will be fought between rival corporations”.
In this nightmare scenario, officials from corporations such asMonsanto and Walmart,have complete control of the developmental process of the TPP and the ISDS legal provisions.

The Government’s employment report released on Friday, March 6 was quite possibly the most absurd economic report on record. With all of the oil industry and retail industry layoffs that have been occurring since the end of 2014, how is it at all possible that these two sectors of the economy were the the primary foundation for what the Government reports as 295,000 jobs created in February and a 5.5% unemployment rate? It’s not possible. The Fed has been threatening to raise interest rates ever since Bernanke’s infamous “taper” speech in May 2013. And yet, despite the incessant and repetitive “good cop/bad cop” routine with regard to “should we/shouldn’t we” raise rates, the FOMC’s zero interest rate policy remains as stalwart as the Great Pyramid of Giza. Part of this routine involves the Fed narrative that the economy and job market is improving.

But if this is the case, why wait until the June meeting as stated by the “bad cop” narrative? Why not raise rates in two weeks at the March FOMC meeting? It’s because the Fed can not and will not raise rates (unless it wants to collapse the financial system).

This spring should reward plenty of star-gazers, especially in Britain, which will experience its deepest solar eclipse in 15 years, as well as a Supermoon, all at the same time – an event that will sink the island into twilight for two whole hours.
The Supermoon eclipse, as the phenomenon is known, is an astronomical alignment where the Moon is sent on a trajectory between the Sun and the Earth, depriving us of light. The event will occur on March 20 at around 8:40GMT.
Scotland will have it best though, with a whopping 98 percent of the sky darkened, compared to about 85 percent for the south of England. For best results the Scottish need to look up starting 9:36 am.
Other areas in Britain will only get around 30 percent.
Similar events took place in 2006, 2008 and 2011, but neither of them can touch the upcoming Supermoon eclipse, except an event that occurred in 1999.
We’ll have to wait three years for the next one in 2018. However, only 2026 will present us with a deep solar eclipse once again. As for the magnitude, it won’t be until 2090 that we get to see anything like the 1999 and upcoming March 20 events.
Whenever particularly striking displays take place, it is because the Moon is close to the Earth. According to Dr Edward Bloomer of the Royal Observatory at Greenwich, the March eclipse will see the Moon closer to us than it has been in more than 18 years. “The Earth is orbiting around the Sun and sometimes is slightly closer and sometimes further away, and the Earth is also wobbling around on its axis,” the Telegraph cites him as saying. “Likewise the orbit of the Moon around the Earth is elliptical and slightly tilted so it’s rare for the Sun, Earth and Moon to actually line up,” he also said. And when the Moon’s orbit is as close as possible to the Earth’s, we have a total eclipse, Bloomer explains.
That’s when the Supermoon appears, and that is what will take place in Britain in a few days, as our satellite appears to us as an enormous black, glowing orb, shortly before March 20.
The only thing the Brits have to worry about is weather. It can potentially ruin their viewing experience, with the possibility of clouds and rain.
But if skies are clear, another treat for everyone will be the moon itself. With such proximity and lighting conditions, a pair of binoculars will give the viewer surface details that could never be seen with the naked eye.
However, it’s not just the fun factor of such events that is attracting attention. The Brits are afraid it might cause power grid failures as well. The National Grid says around 50 percent of power will be lost throughout the morning hours later in March.
But Britain will remain relatively unscathed, compared to its European neighbors, where up to 10 percent of energy is generated sustainably, meaning they depend more on the sun. According to the UK’s energy body, only 1.5 percent of power there is generated by solar panels. And since people will be going out in droves to watch the spectacle, energy consumption should drop almost at the same time the shortages will strike, it says.
The European Network Transmission System Operators for Electricity says, according to the Independent, “with the increase of installed photovoltaic energy generation, the risk of an incident could be serious without appropriate countermeasures.” "Within 30 minutes the solar power production would decrease from 17.5 gigawatts to 6.2GW and then increase again up to 24.6GW. This means that within 30 minutes the system will have to adapt to a load change of -10GW to +15GW," said Patrick Graichen, executive director of the Berlin-based think-tank on renewable energy Agora Energiewende, as cited by the Financial Times.
While the world is only hearing about the Supermoon eclipse now, energy companies have been preparing for the event for months in advance, some in Europe setting up contingency measures for extracting energy from other power stations.
Experts predict that precautionary methods will only increase with time, as more solar energy becomes increasingly commonplace.
