REMIND ME

Holocaust survivors have always reminded us of the consequences of unchecked hatred. It is even more critical that we heed their warnings at this time when we are witnessing a surge in antisemitic violence. This month, we will hear from Holocaust survivor Alfred Münzer.

Al was born in 1941 to a Jewish family during Nazi Germany’s occupation of the Netherlands. Trying to keep the family safe, his parents arranged to go into hiding separately from Al and his two older sisters. Al was just months old when he was placed with a Dutch Indonesian family and their Muslim nanny, who cared for him for nearly three years.

After the war, when Al reunited with his mother at three and a half years old, he did not remember her. Watch Al talk about his experiences and what happened to the rest of his family.
