EXODUS (23:11)

וְשֵׁשׁ שָׁנִים תִּזְרַע אֶת אַרְצֶךָ וְאָסַפְתָּ אֶת תְּבוּאָתָהּ וְהַשְּׁבִיעִת תִּשְׁמְטֶנָּה וּנְטַשְׁתָּה

שמות כג:יא

V'-she-shet shah-neem tee'z-ro-ah et ar'tzeh-kha v'-ah-saf-tah et t'-vu-ah-tah v'-hah-sh'-vee-it tish-m'-teh-nah u'-ne-tash-tah

Jerusalem Inspiration

The number seven is uniquely linked to the Land of Israel. The Land observes a seven-year sabbatical cycle, as commanded in the Bible. Every seventh year, all the farms, fields, orchards and vineyards in the Land of Israel are left 'untended and unharvested.' This year is a Sabbatical year in Israel, and to this day it is still observed. Another set of "seven" is the week, culminating in the Sabbath, which falls out on the seventh day and represents the holy rest that God took from the work of creation. The Holy Land is also blessed with the seven special species mentioned in the Bible: wheat, barley, grapes, dates, pomegranates, figs and olives. In addition, the Jewish tradition teaches that while the number six represents the physical world that was created in six days, the number seven represents the spiritual component of the world, which is most heavily concentrated in the Land of Israel - the land of many sevens!.
