Delighting in God’s Revelation

How the final book of the Bible offers profound encouragement for believers today.

Revelation can feel intimidating. Some believers have avoided it altogether, unsure of how to interpret its vivid imagery, concerned about controversy, or overwhelmed by its focus on future events. Perhaps it’s seemed impractical, reserved only for scholars or end-times enthusiasts.

But the truth is far different. Revelation offers a profound gift to every believer willing to read it. Far from being irrelevant or inaccessible, it is a letter written to strengthen our faith, fuel our hope, and gird us with courage as we await Christ’s return. It is a book meant to stir joy in our hearts.

Here are seven reasons why Revelation is a joy to read and study.

1. Revelation is God’s message directly to us

The opening verses of Revelation reveal a stunning chain of divine communication:

"The revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave him to show to his servants the things that must soon take place. He made it known by sending his angel to his servant John, who bore witness to the word of God and to the testimony of Jesus Christ, even to all that he saw." (Revelation 1:1–2)

From God the Father, through Jesus, delivered by an angel to John, this message was first written to the seven churches and ultimately to all who belong to Christ. Revelation speaks directly into our present experience, offering encouragement, correction, and hope. God has not remained silent; He speaks through this book, and we would do well not to miss what He says.

2. Revelation reveals the glorified Christ

Many of us imagine Jesus from the Gospels the baby in the manger, the teacher on the hillside, the suffering servant on the cross. But Revelation lifts the veil to show us Jesus as He is right now: risen, ascended, reigning in glory.

John, exiled on Patmos, encountered this glorious Christ eyes like flames, voice like rushing waters, face shining like the sun (Revelation 1:9–20). This vision elevates our understanding of Jesus. He is not distant or passive but powerfully present and sovereign. Seeing Him as He truly is deepens our trust and heightens our joy.

3. Revelation assures us of Christ’s presence with His church

In John’s vision, Jesus stands “in the midst of the lampstands” (Revelation 1:13), which represent the churches. For the early Christians enduring persecution, this was a powerful comfort. Their Savior had not abandoned them. He was standing among them, tending to them like a faithful High Priest.

Even now, in our trials and temptations, we can rest in the assurance that Jesus walks among His people. He sees our struggles. He strengthens us for patient endurance. Revelation offers a beautiful picture of His nearness in every season.

4. Revelation gives us heaven’s perspective on earthly events

In chapter 4, John is invited to “come up here” and peer into the heavenly throne room. From this vantage point, he witnesses God’s sovereign rule and unceasing worship (Revelation 4:1–11).

While we often evaluate life through the limited lens of our earthly struggles, Revelation expands our vision. It helps us see the true nature of what’s happening around us. Earth’s temporary pleasures lose their shine. Persecution becomes an instrument of victory. The powers that seem so threatening are exposed as fleeting.

Heaven’s perspective steadies our hearts and reminds us that history is unfolding under God’s perfect plan.

5. Revelation promises God’s final victory over evil

Every believer longs for deliverance from evil. Jesus taught us to pray, “Deliver us from evil” (Matthew 6:13), and Revelation shows us that this prayer will be fully answered. The pouring out of God’s wrath in Revelation is not cruel or arbitrary it is the just and final cleansing of His creation.

No more rebellion. No more idolatry. No more corruption. God will remove every stain of evil, preparing a world fit for His redeemed people. Revelation offers the sure promise that the brokenness we see today will not last forever.

6. Revelation unveils our eternal future

Often, believers struggle to imagine what eternity will be like. Revelation provides vivid imagery to help us grasp the beauty of our future home.

  • A marriage: Intimate, joyful communion with God.

  • A city: A diverse, united people from every nation.

  • A temple: The radiant presence of God Himself.

  • A garden: A restored paradise of peace, healing, and satisfaction.

These images spark our longing for the world to come. In the new heavens and new earth, every wound will be healed, every tear wiped away. We will dwell with our God in perfect joy forever (Revelation 21–22).

7. Revelation offers the promise of blessing

Revelation contains its own beatitudes seven declarations of blessedness:

  • Blessed are those who read and keep what is written (Revelation 1:3; 22:7).

  • Blessed are those who refuse compromise (Revelation 19:9).

  • Blessed are those who die in the Lord (Revelation 14:13).

  • Blessed are those who stay spiritually awake (Revelation 16:15).

  • Blessed are those who reign with Christ (Revelation 20:6).

  • Blessed are those whose robes are washed in His blood (Revelation 22:14).

This is not the fleeting blessedness of earthly prosperity but the lasting blessedness of eternal Sabbath rest. The first Adam failed to lead us there, but Jesus, the last Adam, will not fail. Revelation shows us how He accomplishes this great redemption.

Don’t Miss the Joy

If Revelation has seemed intimidating or confusing, take courage. The same Holy Spirit who inspired its writing stands ready to illuminate its meaning for you. This book is not a puzzle to avoid but a treasure to explore.

In its pages, we see Christ as He is, find hope for today, receive assurance of God’s justice, and rejoice in the promise of eternal joy. Revelation invites us to lift our eyes above the turmoil of this world and behold the Lamb who reigns.

So open this book. Read it with expectation. Let its words strengthen your faith and fill your heart with joy as you wait for the day when every promise will be fulfilled.

If I may correct myself, I intended to type 1Kings 10:14, and a second backup is 2 Chronicles 9:13.

But what is your opinion of what 666 means, and its connection to King Solomon as revealed in 1 Kings 10:44 ?
