According to reports the Egyptian government is paying very little attention to the recent persecution and attacks against Coptic Christians, which has seen an alarming spike in violent attacks in recent weeks.
Since May of this year the
AFP reports that there have been more than a dozen religious motivated violent attacks against Egyptian Christians, and religious and human rights activists are now complaining over the lack of the Egyptian governments response to the violence.
The attacks include an elderly Christian woman who was beaten and paraded naked through the streets over her son’s rumored relationship with a Muslim woman, and several Christian homes were set ablaze in the area.
While another attack saw a Coptic priest was shot dead in North Sinai, in which the Islamic State terrorist organization has claimed responsibility for.
Christian Daily reported that the homes of five Christian families were looted and burned to the ground over a rumor that a church was being constructed within the area, with the incident taking place back on July 15th.
Religious activist claim that the lack of prosecution of the attackers, and the often insistence of the Egyptian judicial system that orders Christian victims to attend “reconciliation” sessions instead of filing criminal complaints against the perpetrators, is the cycle that perpetuates the violence in that country towards the Christian population.
