Alan Dershowitz defends op-ed suggesting that age of consent for sex should be lowered, “Pharisee”

Hypocrisy is the contrivance of a false appearance of virtue or goodness while concealing real character or inclinations, especially with respect to religious and moral beliefs; hence in a general sense, hypocrisy may involve dissimulation, pretense, or a sham.
Romans 1:18–28, “The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness since what may be known about God is plain to them because God has made it plain to them. For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse. For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. . . . Just as they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, so God gave them over to a depraved mind, so that they do what ought not to be done.”
Alan Dershowitz, Harvard Law School emeritus professor, at an appearance on MarthaĆ¢€™s Vineyard last summer.
Alan Dershowitz, the outspoken, controversial Harvard Law School emeritus professor, is defending himself on Twitter after an op-ed resurfaced in which he suggested that the age of consent for statutory rape cases should be lowered.
Dershowitz made the suggestion in a 1997 op-ed in the Los Angeles Times, suggesting that 15 was a reasonable age of consent, no matter how old the other partner was.
The op-ed drew new attention after it was mentioned in a lengthy New Yorker story posted online Monday that took a deep dive into Dershowitz’s life and his connections, both personal and professional, to Jeffrey Epstein, a wealthy convicted sex offender who has been charged with sexually exploiting and abusing dozens of minor girls.
On Monday afternoon, Richard W. Painter, a former White House ethics lawyer who is now a law professor at the University of Minnesota, wondered on Twitter in a series of tweets why Dershowitz had written the op-ed.
Why is @AlanDersh trying to lower the age of consent in this op-ed? 15? Really? https://twitter.com/guy1749/status/1155865834784526338 …Guy1749@guy1749Replying to @RWPUSA

In a third tweet, Painter cited a line from the op-ed, “ ‘Moreover puberty is arriving earlier’ so, therefore, the age of consent should be lowered? @Alan Dersh was off the deep end when he wrote this 20 years ago.”
Dershowitz replied to Painter that he stood by the argument in the op-ed piece. He said his argument was “constitutional (not moral).” He said he had not suggested it was moral to have sex with a 16-year-old but “rather than the issue presents a constitutional conundrum worthy of discussion.”
I stand by the constitutional (not moral) argument I offered in my controversial oped: if a 16-year-old has the constitutional right to have an abortion without state or parental interference, how could she not have the constitutional right to engage in consensual sex? 1/ https://twitter.com/RWPUSA/status/1155939457440219137 …Richard W. I challenge my readers to distinguish the cases, as a matter of constitutional law. I did not suggest that it is moral to have sex with a 16-year-old, but rather that the issue presents a constitutional conundrum worthy of discussion. 2/
I also pointed out that, statutory rape laws are applied quite selectively and often against young teenagers. That’s why I also say there are Romeo and Juliet exceptions. Let’s debate not name call. End/1,8735:04 PM – Jul 29, 2019Twitter Ads info and privacy4,012 people are talking about this
The New Yorker article, “Alan Dershowitz, Devil’s Advocate,” also included interviews with two women who have alleged that Epstein arranged for them to have sex with his friends, including Dershowitz. And it raised questions about travel record evidence he says proves his innocence, which New Yorker staff writer Connie Bruck was able to examine for a few hours but not copy.
Dershowitz has vehemently denied the allegations and wrote a lengthy response to The New Yorker piece in advance, which was published on the conservative website newsmax.com. In it, he called The New Yorker article a “hit piece calculated to silence my voice on President Trump, Prime Minister Netanyahu and Israel. . . . You must know there is no actual evidence that I engaged in sexual misconduct or even met my false accusers — because I did not.”
Virginia Giuffre, who says she had sex with Dershowitz at Epstein’s behest, filed a defamation suit against Dershowitz in April, saying he was falsely accusing her of lying.
“He’s been challenging me for years — ‘Come say it in public, come to say it in public.’ And I said, ‘You know what? Challenge accepted,’ ” Giuffre told Bruck. “I know he’s going to put up a good fight. But, at the end of it, I know we’re gonna win. We’ve got the truth on our side.”
Dershowitz told Bruck, “I will proclaim my absolute innocence until the day I die.” Source

Jesus chastised religious leaders in the first century for not knowing the time of His arrival. Will we make the same mistake today? Christ stated how His second coming would be preceded by global events signifying the end of our age. We may not know the day or the hour, but we can know the season!
“And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions.” (Joel 2:28.)
John Wesley who said that what we tolerate in our generation, will be embraced by the next. Wesley is 100% correct! We are living in sick times.
Usually, the Lord doth no great thing for or against his people, without giving warning of it before it comes.
They perverted justice among themselves (v. 7): “You turn judgment to wormwood, that is, you make your administrations of justice bitter and nauseous, and highly displeasing both to God and man.’’ That fruit has become a weed, a weed in the garden; as nothing is more venerable, nothing more valuable, than justice duly administered, so nothing is more hurtful, nothing more abominable, than designedly doing wrong under color and pretense of doing right. Corruptio optimi est pessima —The best, when corrupted, becomes the worst.
It is impossible to find anyone in the Bible who was a power for God who did not have enemies and was not hated.
2 Corinthians 4:8-11 New King James Version (NKJV)
8 We are hard-pressed on every side, yet not crushed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; 9 persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed— 10 always carrying about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our body. 11 For we who live are always delivered to death for Jesus’ sake, that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our mortal flesh.

City Sued for Forcing Conservative Political Firm to Promote Abortion, Liberal Causes

CITY SUED FOR FORCING CONSERVATIVE POLITICAL FIRM TO PROMOTE ABORTION, LIBERAL CAUSES

A Christian-owned political consulting firm filed a federal lawsuit Monday against a Michigan city for forcing businesses to promote political and moral messages that contradict their beliefs.
The law in Ann Arbor, Mich., makes it illegal for businesses to “discriminate” based on political beliefs.
This means ThinkRight Strategies, a political firm founded by Grant Strobl and Jacob Chludzinski to promote conservative causes, must advocate for liberal causes, too, or face the threat of $500 fines per day. Both men are pro-life.
“Americans have long been free to promote political beliefs of their choosing,” the lawsuit, filed by Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF), says. “But under the guise of stopping discrimination, Ann Arbor passed a law that forces Democrats to create advocacy material supporting conservatives and Republicans to create advocacy material supporting liberals under the threat of paying fines up to $500 per day. This is a constitutional anathema.
“Citizens should be free to choose for themselves what they say and what they celebrate -- not the government,” the suit says.
Both men are Christians who are “religiously motivated to support policies that align with their religious beliefs,” the lawsuit says.
Although the men advocate for “limited government, lower taxes, and protecting the unborn,” Ann Arbor law requires them to “provide similar services to Socialist candidates to promote government control, higher taxes, and abortion on demand.” The law even prevents the men from stating on their website that they work only for conservative political causes.
The suit argues the law violates the First Amendment’s protections for speech, association and press, and the Fourteenth Amendment’s protections for due process.
“Americans should be free to advocate for the political ideals they cherish,” ADF legal counsel Samuel Green said. “Grant and Jacob created their business to advance their conservative political beliefs. But Ann Arbor’s law forces them to use their skills to promote political beliefs they oppose, like abortion and socialism. This coercion is not just un-American – it’s unconstitutional. While Grant and Jacob will work with anyone when it advances conservative political goals, they cannot use their talents to promote messages or causes that undermine their values.”
