Hunter Biden has a vulgar message for his critics

Good morning Americans,

President Biden’s son Hunter has a message for those who criticize the prices of his artwork. In an interview with the “Nota Bene” podcast, one of the hosts asked Hunter Biden what his response was to the people who condemn the prices of his work. “Other than ‘f— ’em’?” Biden asked facetiously. Biden’s artwork will sell in the Fall at an estimated price point between $75,000 and $500,000. “The value of an artist’s work is not necessarily determined by the price but the price is completely subjective … and has sometimes nothing to do with anything other than, you know, the moment,” he added.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said that her party’s $3.5 trillion bill should include immigration reform. “I do believe that immigration should be in the reconciliation, some piece of that, in the reconciliation,” Pelosi said. “We know we have a very good case for this to be included.” While the details are still unclear, the expectation is that the legislation will allocate funds to health, education, environment, and social programs. Democrats seek to pass the measure with a procedural tool known as budget reconciliation, which would allow them to bypass a 60-vote filibuster by Senate Republicans.

The Biden administration imposed another set of sanctions on Cuba, this time targeting their police force and its leaders for the suppression of protestors. “The Treasury Department will continue to designate and call out by name those who facilitate the Cuban regime’s involvement in serious human rights abuse,” Andrea Gacki, director of the Office of Foreign Assets Control, wrote in a statement. “Today’s action serves to further hold accountable those responsible for suppressing the Cuban people’s calls for freedom and respect for human rights.” Earlier this month, protestors took to the streets to demonstrate against their fragile economy that led to food and power shortages.

The Justice Department threatened to sue the governor of Texas over a recent order that allows state troopers to stop and turn back vehicles carrying migrants on the basis that they could increase the spread of COVID-19. “The order is both dangerous and unlawful,” Attorney General Merrick Garland wrote in a letter. Gov. Greg Abbott seemed to dismiss Garland’s letter in a statement that pointed blame at the White House for the ongoing migration crisis. “The Biden Administration is jeopardizing the health and safety of Texans on a daily basis by refusing to follow the law,” Abbott said.

In further Texas-related news, hospitals in the northern part of the state reported an increase in Covid-19 cases among pediatric patients. Hospital spokesperson Kim Brown says that as of July 28, Cook Children’s Medical Center had 14 Covid patients, with a seven-day positivity rate of 9 percent. Brown went on to add, “on June 2nd, our seven-day percent positivity rate was 1 percent and we were seeing less than 10 COVID-19 positive tests per day.” Cook Children’s Dr. Marc Mazade urged unvaccinated adults to get their shots to protect children not yet eligible for the vaccine.

Three members of the US’s Olympic fencing team wore pink masks following allegations of sexual misconduct against their teammate. Jake Hoyle, Curtis McDowald, and Yeisser Ramirez all wore pink masks before the start of the competition. Alex Hadzic, who has been accused of sexual assault, did not. Three women came forward shortly after Hadzic qualified for the Tokyo Games, alleging sexual impropriety in incidents that occurred between 2013 and 2015. Hadzic was barred from the team on June 2 but successfully appealed his suspension. The team lost to Japan on Friday, bringing their Olympic journey to an end.

Be well,

USS Ronald Reagan on Scene After Surprise Attack on Ocean Tanker, All Signs Point to Foreign Drone Strike

After a deadly attack on an oil tanker off the coast of Oman, the USS Ronald Reagan is now involved.

In the wee hours of Friday morning, the tanker, MT Mercer Street, was hit by what officials believe was a drone, according to The Times of Israel.

The attack killed two crew members – one British and one Romanian.

Israeli officials blamed Iran for the attack. In recent months, Iran and Israel have each had their ships fired upon and blamed the other for the attacks.

Although past assaults have damaged shipping, this is the first attack in which crewmen aboard the vessels have been reported killed.

The ship has an Israeli connection because it is operated by Zodiac Maritime, owned by Israeli businessman Eyal Ofer. The Liberian-flagged vessel has a Japanese owner, Zodiac Maritime said.

The Ronald Reagan is now escorting the ship, U.S. Central Command said in a statement, according to Reuters.

“U.S. Navy explosives experts are aboard to ensure there is no additional danger to the crew, and are prepared to support an investigation into the attack,” Central Command said.

“Initial indications clearly point to a UAV-style [drone] attack.”

According to a U.S. Navy statement, the guided-missile destroyer USS Mitscher is also escorting the Mercer Street.

An unnamed U.S. official confirmed the attack blew a hole in the top of the tanker’s bridge, The Associated Press reported.

Israeli Foreign Minister Yair Lapid tweeted late Friday that he talked to British Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab about the “need to respond severely” to the attack and Iranian terrorism.

“Iran is not just an Israeli problem, but an exporter of terrorism, destruction and instability that affects the whole world,” Lapid wrote. “We can never remain silent in the face of Iranian terrorism, which also harms freedom of navigation.”

Iranian TV discussed unnamed sources who said the attack was in response to a suspected Israeli attack on the Dabaa airport in Syria, Reuters reported.

The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations said the ship was in the Indian Ocean when it was attacked.

Postal Workers Union Delivers Stunning Blow to Biden: End Vaccine Mandates Cameron Arcand July 31, 2021 at 11:36am

Postal Workers Union Delivers Stunning Blow to Biden: End Vaccine Mandates

The American Postal Workers Union is opposing the Biden administration’s new order which requires federal employees to get the coronavirus vaccine or be subject to regular testing and other restrictions.

While the union said it encourages postal workers to get the shot, the APWU made it clear that the government should not be forcing vaccination, either.

“Maintaining the health and safety of our members is of paramount importance,” the union said in a statement. “While the APWU leadership continues to encourage postal workers to voluntarily get vaccinated, it is not the role of the federal government to mandate vaccinations for the employees we represent.”

The union doubled down by noting that new workplace conditions will have to be negotiated first, regardless of what the White House considers to be the proper safety measures.

“Issues related to vaccinations and testing for COVID-19 in the workplace must be negotiated with the APWU. At this time the APWU opposes the mandating of COVID-19 vaccinations in relation to U.S. postal workers.”

As to be expected, the APWU is now reaping what it sowed. In June 2020, its executive board endorsed President Joe Biden.

“In their decision, the Board recognized his record of advancing the cause of unions, his support for the public Postal Service, postal workers, and his opposition to postal privatization,” the union said last year.

Should there be a vaccine mandate for federal employees?

While public-sector unions are often unreasonable in their demands, this one actually makes a great point.

It makes sense that the union would want postal service workers to have their vaccine, but to make life inconvenient for those who decide against it is a ridiculous abuse of power.

Whether people like it or not, getting vaccinated is a choice.

The union is aware of this principle, and knows that it would lose members if people quit their jobs as a result of the mandate.

If the government were to make it compulsory in any capacity, like it is doing with federal workers, the action will likely raise suspicion among groups with significant institutional distrust.

Coronavirus restrictions are already making an unwanted comeback, as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is once again recommending masks in “higher risk” areas for the vaccinated and unvaccinated both, due to the Delta variant.

Unions like the APWU play a major role in how the economy functions, along with being a key pillar of Democratic support, so this negative reaction may weigh heavily on the White House’s decision-making.
