Adults have rallied, truckers have filled the streets, and now some Chicago-area high school students are taking a stand against never-ending mask requirements. Church Militant's Nadia Hazimeh has more on a group of courageous students tired of hiding their face from the world and breathing in their own carbon dioxide in masks that medical experts say don't work anyway.

On Monday, students from Libertyville and Vernon Hills High Schools in Chicago-area School District 128 decided to go to school unmasked, protesting their district's mandate.

The principal at Vernon Hills informed his students Monday morning they must wear a mask to attend class or else remain in the gym to complete classwork.

Rather than being relegated to second-class status in an uncomfortable gym all day long, students at Vernon Hills High pursued a third option.

After peacefully walking out of school Monday, a group of the students calling themselves Student Voices Unmasked took to Twitter to explain: "It's time to take a stand."

"Most of us have spent most of our high school lives behind these masks," they said. "For younger students, their entire high school experience has been covered in masks. We believe it is time for this to end."

This came after a county circuit court on Friday issued a temporary restraining order on Illinois governor J.B. Pritzker's mask requirement.

Gov. J.B. Pritzker: "All P–12 schools and day cares in Illinois must follow the CDC guidance of universal masking inside, regardless of vaccine status."

In a news conference Monday, Pritzker said wearing masks is simply a matter of doing the right thing.

Pritzker: "Masks, for most people anyway, have been about doing what's right."

Like so many other citizens in the U.S. and the world, these students disagree.

While schools outside District 128 begin dropping their mask requirements, Cdl. Blase Cupich has decided to continue masking the vulnerable children of His archdiocese of Chicago.
