New Resurgence: Young Families Are Flocking to the Latin Mass Despite Scorn from the Vatican

CV NEWS FEED // The Latin Mass is seeing a major resurgence in popularity among young people and families according to several reports.

As Minot Daily News explained in a recent article, the Latin Mass used to be “the standard service given by churches worldwide until the mid-1960s,” after the Second Vatican Council elevated use of the vernacular over the traditional rite in “an effort to make religion more accessible to the modern world.”

Though most parishes adopted the Novus Ordo Missae, (new order of the Mass) following Vatican II, the Latin Mass continues to be celebrated, and is now seeing a major resurgence, despite increasing discouragement from the Vatican.

In May 2023, Pope Francis enacted one of the changes from a motu proprio he issued in 2021, Traditionis custodes, restricting the celebration of TLM, which he said “was being used in an ideological way.”

Now, all priests ordained after July 16, 2021 must receive authorisation from their bishop and the Holy See to celebrate TLM. Francis called resistance to the changes implemented by Vatican II “a nostalgic disease,” and “indietrismo,” or “backwardness” in Italian.

Yet, one former TLM pastor Canon William Avis told Minut Daily that his TLM parish started to see 800 to 850 attendees at Mass on Sunday in recent years.

According to Crisis Magazine’s 2021 survey on Latin Mass attendance rates, which cited the Latin Mass Directory, 658 parishes celebrate TLM out of 16,702 parishes in the US.

The survey collected data from 2019 to 2021 and received responses from 12% of TLM parishes from across the country.

According to the data, the average attendance at TLM mass across the 59 parishes in the survey was 145; in January 2020, the average across 61 parishes was 163; in January 2021, the average across 69 parishes was 174; and in June 2021, the average across 75 parishes was 196.

In short, the rate of TLM attendance increased by 34%, and the number of parishes offering TLM increased by 27%.

“So at a time when general Mass attendance was decreasing,” the report pointed out, “attendance at the TLM was dramatically increasing.”

“Latin Mass has developed through history since the time of the Apostles,” Avis said, “so it kind of gives a certain sense of foundation, of roots. It’s something that it’s not just going to randomly change.”

From the airport holiday fiasco in 2022 to the Ohio train derailment in February, Joe Biden’s Presidency has been plagued by transportation issues.

But Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg is more concerned with forcing the Left’s green agenda on the country.

And Pete Buttigieg made one prediction about America in 2050 that had Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez fuming.

Pete Buttigieg’s tenure as Transportation Secretary has been one disaster after another.

When he first became Transportation Secretary, Buttigieg disappeared on unannounced paternity leave with his husband during the middle of the supply chain crisis set off by the pandemic.

It took Buttigieg more than a week to even mention the train that derailed in East Palestine, Ohio and spilled toxic chemicals into the air and water supply.

During the middle of negotiations to prevent railroad workers from going on strike, Buttigieg left the country and vacationed in Portugal.

America’s airports have even gotten worse under Buttigieg’s direction, with thousands of flight delays and cancellations leaving travelers stranded over the holidays.

But Buttigieg is pretending that nothing is wrong and America’s transportation system is running perfectly smoothly.

Despite thousands of delays during Thanksgiving, Buttigieg posted a video on X bragging about the Department of Transportation’s (DOT) handling of the heavy travel load.

“So far this year, our aviation system is handling the increased volume well,” he said. “In fact, cancellations are lower than they were before the pandemic.”

“The Department of Transportation has your back,” Buttigieg promised.

Of course, Buttigieg is a supporter of the Left’s woke ideology and radical green agenda.

Radical environmentalists like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez are hell-bent on forcing Americans to drive expensive and inefficient electric vehicles (EVs).

Joe Biden is promising that two out of every three vehicles sold in the United States will be electric by the year 2032.

But Pete Buttigieg believes it will be much later than 2032 before gas-powered vehicles are a thing of the past.

During last Monday’s broadcast of Fox Business Network’s Varney & Co., Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg discussed the current move to force Americans into electric vehicles.

“The share of EVs has been dramatically increasing every single year, and that’s continuing,” he said. “Now, our goal is, by the end of this decade, to be about half-and-half. We think that that can and will happen.”

Buttigieg predicted it would be 2050 before the full transition to electric had been achieved.

“I don’t know a lot of people who think that Americans in 2050 are still going to be driving that old technology, that combustion technology that we inherited from the 20th century,” Buttigieg predicted.

2050 is more than 25 years away.

Radical environmentalists like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez are demanding an immediate transition to electric to save the world from the alleged climate crisis.

And Ocasio-Cortez will not be happy about Buttigieg’s 2050 prediction.

Democrats are willing to go to any lengths to enact their green agenda.

Even if that means bypassing the will of voters.

And an energy expert sounded the alarm on this bone-chilling scheme by John Kerry. Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry led the American delegation at the United Nations (UN) annual climate change conference, COP28.

Kerry worked with his globalist pals at the summit to enter into agreements to bring sweeping change to the U.S. to combat climate change.

The U.S. joined other countries at the UN event to sign a pact to begin “transitioning away from fossil fuels.”

But Congress and voters never signed off on these drastic changes by the Biden regime.

Climate Depot executive editor Marc Morano ripped Biden for bypassing Congress to enact his agenda with the help of the UN.

“Do we need to abolish the gas-powered car?” Morano asked. “We’ve never voted on it in the United States.” “We never had a vote. It’s all been decided with executive orders, mid-level bureaucrats, corporate-government collusion, executive agencies,” Morano continued. “Do we need to start limiting meat eating? That’s the other question.

The UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) demanded that the U.S. and other wealthy countries reduce their consumption of meat at COP28.

The conference held in Dubai featured a plethora of upscale food options with meat for the attendees to dine on.

“The answer’s no to both, but even if you believed it, you’re absolutely right, you would have democracy involved, people voting, you would have timetables. I’m not arguing we should do that, I’m arguing we need to challenge this entire premise,” Morano stated.

The Biden regime knows that its Green New Deal policies are wildly unpopular with voters and would run into a roadblock in Congress. To work around Congress and push their agenda they’ve reached deep into their bag of tricks.

Wall Street has begun using ESG (environmental, social, and governance) to use its financial might to push green energy political priorities through investing.

Democrats’ politically-favored industries like solar energy receive investments and while industries like fossil fuels are blacklisted in the name of socially-conscious investing.

Morano continued by pointing out the devastation that Green New Deal policies brought to Sri Lanka and the Netherlands where citizens revolted against the government.

“It’s climate policy, not climate change, that is going to drive migration, and the same was true with COVID, by the way,” Morano said. “People in droves leaving California and other states. What we’re finding is people in Sri Lanka followed climate policy to the collapse of their government, their presidential palace was overrun. The farmers in the Netherlands were subjected to climate policy, and they almost crushed all the small family-run farms.” Morano also slammed former Vice President Al Gore for his doomsday climate predictions.

“They are using climate fear to literally restrict and collapse energy, agriculture, transportation, go right after our freedom of movement,” Morano added.

Democrats are hell-bent on ramming through as much of the Green New Deal as possible by any means necessary.

World population up 75 million this year, standing at 8 billion on Jan. 1

The world population grew by 75 million people over the past year and on New Year’s Day it will stand at more than 8 billion people, according to figures released by the U.S. Census Bureau on Thursday.

The worldwide growth rate in the past year was just under 1%. At the start of 2024, 4.3 births and two deaths are expected worldwide every second, according to the Census Bureau figures.

The growth rate for the United States in the past year was 0.53%, about half the worldwide figure. The U.S. added 1.7 million people and will have a population on New Year’s Day of 335.8 million people.

If the current pace continues through the end of the decade, the 2020s could be the slowest-growing decade in U.S. history, yielding a growth rate of less than 4% over the 10-year-period from 2020 to 2030, said William Frey, a demographer at The Brookings Institution.
