For Those Who Are Overwhelmed
Your Nightly Prayer for Apr. 9, 2025

TONIGHT’S SCRIPTURE

"From the end of the earth, I will cry to You, When my heart is overwhelmed; lead me to the rock that is higher than I." - Psalm 61:2 (NKJV)

SOMETHING TO PONDER 

This verse is by far one of my absolute favourite bible verses. If you’ve known me a long time or read much of my musings you will know I say that a lot. But this verse is one that is personal for me. In my days as a new mother, even now 15 years in, I have found my self in some very overwhelming days. I pray this verse a lot.

One example of when I pray this verse is when the house is in melt down mode. As the mother of three children who all have sensory needs, our home life can be a little precarious. We are always simply waiting on the next dysregulated moment. It isn’t easy, but I wouldn’t change my children for the world. How they see life is so very different than how it is usually seen, and they teach me daily. 

But I wont lie, it is hard going, and sometimes I just don’t know how to make the situation better for them. It is here, in that overwhelm that I am praying this verse to the Lord. It is in these moments that I am quietly praying, “Holy Spirit, my heart is overwhelmed, lead me to you, my rock, lead me to the one who is higher than I!”

It is in these moments I am leaning into Christ and living in the grace that He provides me each and every day. Maybe you have a circumstance in your life that causes you to feel overwhelmed daily, or often? Friend, if there was one verse I could tell you to memorise it is this one and pray it often! 

When David is writing these words, he was asking the Lord to place him on a high rock of security, somewhere he could never climb to or get to by himself. He was asking the Lord to act in his divinity and to help David. But David was also recognising that in his overwhelm the only place he needed to be was in God, because there in Him we have all we need. 

So, I wonder, do we need to ask the Lord to act in his Divinity to help us? Do we need to recognise that it is in God we have all we need. Do we need to allow our overwhelm to send us closer to God rather than further away?

YOUR NIGHTLY PRAYER 

Father God,
When my mind becomes overwhelmed with my to do list, my not done list, or the circumstances I face around me, would you in your grace remind me to run to you. To turn my eyes and my heart heaven ward and lean into your knowledge, your mercy and your grace for me. Help me to live in your presence and see the world through holy eyes.
Holy Spirit, nudge my heart. When overwhelm has left me far from God and bring me home.
In Jesus name
Amen. 

THREE THINGS TO MEDITATE UPON

1. Let's ask ourselves what our focus is when we are in overwhelm. Do we look to God, or are we so focused on the situation we face that we forget about him entirely?

2. Let's focus on the one true God, who loves us, who is our rock and a steadfast place in which we can put our hope! 

3.  Lastly, let's remember that He is higher than I. That God is the omniscient one who knows the end from the beginning, and He is working all things out.

Communist Cuba Fuels Conflicts but Can’t Provide Electricity

Electricity is at the forefront of essential services for a functioning modern society. However, in Cuba, after decades of central economic planning under communist leadership, reliable electricity remains an elusive luxury. The Marxist nation can spread revolutionary ideas worldwide but struggles to keep the lights on.

On March 14, 2025, the entire nation went dark after Cuba’s national power grid collapsed, leaving over 10 million people in the dark—again.

Why America Must Reject Isolationism and Its Dangers

This isn’t the first time the lights have gone out. Rolling blackouts lasting up to 20 hours a day have become common outside Havana for months. Recently, the entire system has been failing without warning. The empty promises of leaders like Cuba’s President Miguel Díaz-Canel have done little to enhance the struggling economic system that leaves ordinary citizens in the lurch, literally sitting in the dark.

The Tragedy of Central Planning

The communist economic system relies on central planning and the suppression of private property. The theory asserts that the central government can allocate resources more efficiently than free-market mechanisms. While the system promises prosperity, equality, and progress, it has only delivered inefficiency, mismanagement, corruption, theft and inflexibility.

For some 60 years, Cuba’s energy industry has functioned as a state-controlled monopoly. Unlike free-market systems, where competition fosters efficiency and innovation, Cuba’s communist model eliminates all incentives to innovate or sustain infrastructure.

Decades-old power plants and transmission lines now form the backbone of the island’s electrical grid, which is fragile, poorly maintained and overdue for replacement.

Cuba attributes its failures to the U.S. trade embargo rather than acknowledging its flawed policies’ evident neglect and inefficiency.

The U.S. has imposed an embargo against communist Cuba, but Cuba can purchase what it needs from the rest of the world—if it has the money to do so. However, replacement parts might be more easily found in museums than in warehouses.

A Flawed Reliance on Allies

Cuba depends on imported oil to operate its power plants. Historically, leftist allies have supplied cheap oil to support the Cuban economy. However, the same Marxist theory that afflicted Cuba has also jeopardized oil imports. Venezuela’s oil production, for instance, plummeted due to its adoption of socialism. Russia temporarily stepped in to provide 30,000 barrels of oil per day. These deliveries proved to be irregular and insufficient.

Eternal and Natural Law: The Foundation of Morals and Law

Last October, when Cuba was running out of oil, left-leaning Mexico sent an emergency shipment of 500,000 barrels of crude oil. Instead of alleviating energy woes, the shipment barely made a dent in demand. Blackouts persist, as no lifeline can fix the system.

The Vicious Cycle of Underinvestment, Corruption and Indifference

Marxist central planning prevents Cuba’s investment in critical energy infrastructure. With a severely limited cash flow, resources are diverted to address immediate crises rather than to overhaul outdated power plants or upgrade decaying transmission lines. This short-sighted mentality ensures that breakdowns are not rare but inevitable and are now frequent.

The entire electric grid requires an overhaul. However, experts have indicated that a single aging component at a power station triggered March’s nationwide blackout. Without the mass replacement of such components, similar failures continue to promise future blackouts.

This neglect ripples beyond energy. A lack of reliable electricity affects Cuba’s few remaining industries, including tobacco, sugar and nickel exports. Hospitals that rely on refrigeration and medical equipment also suffer during blackouts, putting citizens’ lives at risk. One crisis triggers others as the whole system breaks down.

Lessons from Cuba

The recurring blackouts in Cuba serve as a stark warning about the dangers of centralized economies. Without incentives driven by free-market principles to invest in and maintain infrastructure, systems decay, resources get misallocated, and the poor bear the brunt of these failures.

Cuba’s energy crisis mirrors similar failures in other artificially planned economies in Venezuela and Nicaragua. They all impose communist and socialist ideologies upon their people.

Indeed, communism and socialism never achieve the utopia they promise; instead, they only deliver poverty and misery in abundance.

Breaking the Cycle

Cuba desperately needs to throw off the yoke of communism, and allow the private sector to participate in energy production and all other parts of the economy.

Cuba seems only efficient in spreading the plague of Marxist ideology all over the world. It cannot provide its population with even the most basic necessities.

Today, millions of Cubans sit in the dark, both literally and metaphorically. Their plight poignantly shows that socialist models do not deserve to be a standard for anything civilized. It’s time for Cuba and other nations suffering under communism and socialism to reject these models. The United States and the West should do everything possible to oppose these frameworks that consistently produce failure and misery.

Why Are Corporations Abandoning San Francisco’s “Gay Pride” Festival?

On June 29-30, 2024, debauchery reigned on the streets of San Francisco. That weekend, it was not merely tolerated but rather sponsored by the city. This was the City by the Bay’s great social celebration—the Pride Festival.

The event goes back to 1970 when a few paraders marched down Polk Street to City Hall and then gathered in Golden Gate Park. The first organized and city-sanctioned parade occurred two years later. Over the decades, its popularity ballooned. Other localities emulated it, but this annual celebration is the ne plus ultra of licentiousness.

Withdrawing Support

However, this year something has drastically changed as the 2025 event approaches. Several major corporate sponsors have withdrawn their financial support. These patrons included major names like communications giant Comcast, Anheuser-Busch (brewers of Budweiser) and spirit distributor Diageo (carrier of Guinness beers, Smirnoff vodka and other big brands). They follow Meta—the corporate parent of Facebook—which ended its backing in 2024.

The pullout of these giant woke companies has resulted in a shortfall of $300,000 out of a total of $3.2 million from corporations. More actions might follow. Other companies still have three months to withdraw their support.

Organizers said the withdrawal was “very abnormal.” They are concerned because these donor are long time contributors that suddenly stopped donating. It appears these big firms are following the public in its rejection of the LGBTQ agenda. The event will still go on, but the withdrawal puts a damper on the festivities.

Changing Conditions

These corporate actions mark a significant change. After decades of increasing support, the pendulum may be swinging in the other direction.

Suzanne Ford, the executive director of San Francisco Pride, which coordinates the annual event, knows it. She told local television station KTVU, “The tone has changed in this country. Businesses already hedge their bets, and I think people who, this isn’t the hard core value of their corporation, maybe they’re rethinking their investment.” She points her finger at President Trump. “I’m very concerned. Obviously, there’s pressure from the federal government.”

At the same time, the 2024 election does indicate changing conditions. However, it is only one symptom of the left’s current distress, not the cause. Other symptoms abound. The widespread rejection of Bud Lite’s marketing strategy involving a “transgender influencer” in the spring of 2023 was one sign. The abandonment of DEI methods by all but the true believers is another. The growing rejection of liberal news outlets is a third. The demographic shift among the two political parties’ supporters has massive significance, although its extent and longevity remain uncertain.

Clearly, public sentiment is shifting in a more conservative and moral direction, and that is a very good thing.

Politics Is Not Enough

However, just conservative sentiments are not enough. If this movement away from immorality is to gain traction, it must come from strong religious convictions and actions. Only Christianity is enough.

It would be pleasant to say that America and Western culture are turning away from sin, to argue that they have awakened to the peril and are turning back to the ways of God as Nineveh did in the days of the Prophet Jonah. Certainly, such a reversal would be well within God’s power, but there is little evidence that He is using that overwhelming method today. There is still abundant evidence that society’s downfall is progressing rapidly.

An Ongoing Conflict

However, the present situation does represent a positive movement that shows signs of growing. People are starting to question some basic premises that favored the advance of liberal ideas.

The new developments raise two questions. First, what provoked the ascendancy of some conservative ideas while the leftists wander about, confused and leaderless? Second, is there some action of God’s grace that is calling Americans to consider alternatives to liberalism’s call to favors the unbridled passions?

The easy question comes first.

The Radicals’ Errors

The American people are tired of revolutionary change. The media offense against Christian values reached a point that it sparked a reaction from those who resented having immoral ideas stuffed down their throats.

The radicals took three steps too far. They branded every white person a racist. This inherent racism, they alleged, was an unforgivable crime against humanity. Second, they aided and abetted a rise in actual crime. Preventing theft, brutality, or even murder became an unconscionable offense against the poor. Third, they tried to convince people that boys could be girls and girls could be boys.

Such absurd charges against ordinary Americans are causing people to challenge the woke establishment. Corporate America is seeking cover from offended consumers.

The Source of Healing

At the same time, many people are looking to fill the void of liberalism’s false promises. They are looking for discipline, structure and rituals to give meaning and purpose to their lives.

Christianity had a clear moral code in accordance with human nature. It attracts these searching souls and instills them with certainties and convictions.

Under such conditions, God’s grace can set in motion movements inside the public in the direction of the practice of virtue and the rejection of vice. This can change the atmosphere in society so that even woke companies see that it make business sense to withdraw their support for immoral causes.

Much depends if people remain faithful to such movements. However, these long-time donors’ shift away from supporting “pride” after so much promotion of the LGBTQ cause is a step in the right direction.

The Battle Over American Manufacturing

The conflict between Tesla CEO Elon Musk and Trump trade adviser Peter Navarro has escalated into a public war of words over what constitutes American manufacturing. Internal MAGA Movement Divisions

The clash highlights significant ideological divisions within Trump’s circle regarding trade and economic policy. Despite the public disagreement, Trump has praised Tesla as an American-made car and called Musk a “patriot,” attempting to maintain unity while pursuing his aggressive tariff agenda.

Frank DuBois, an associate professor who studies automotive supply chains, confirmed that while Tesla manufactures its motors and batteries in the United States, the company does rely significantly on Chinese components. Musk has emphasized Tesla’s vertical integration and high percentage of American content, calling his company “the most vertically integrated auto manufacturer in America.”

Navarro dismissed Musk’s criticisms as self-interested, attributing them to the billionaire’s desire for cheap foreign parts rather than genuine economic concerns.
