Today's Israel Inspiration

The Hebrew word for ‘light,’ ‘ohr’ (אור), is very similar to the word for ‘awaken,’ ‘ayr’ (ער). According to Rabbi Micheal Munk in his book “The Wisdom in the Hebrew Alphabet,”  this teaches that that light is the element that ‘awakens’ creation to development. Just as physical light influences plants to grow, spiritual and intellectual light prods man to achieve his potential. With their masterful methods of education, the Israel Institute of Biblical Studies will have you reaching your potential more incredibly than you ever knew possible!

The Female Belief in Redemption

At the age of 80, Moses received a prophecy that the redemption of the Israelites from Egypt was near. When he relayed this message to the Jewish men, they were unable to believe it, being too embittered from their slavery and suffering. It was the women who rejoiced in Moses' message of salvation and continued to encourage their husbands by decorating themselves with make-up and jewelry when meeting them after their long, grueling day's work. They even fashioned tambourines in the depths of the Egyptian exile under Miriam's direction, in anticipation of the coming redemption. After the Children of Israel  had crossed the Red Sea, Miriam and the women took up these instruments, and they danced while singing the song of redemption with complete faith and joy.

Today's Israel Photo

Joe Aminoff's photo of olive trees on the slope of Mount of Olives in Jerusalem. The Hebrew word for olive is za-YEET, זַּיִת. Because olive trees were always such an integral part of the Holy Land landscape, they have been incorporated into the names of many of Israel’s cities and landmarks such as today's location: Mount of Olives - הר הזיתים - har ha-zay-TEEM.
