And the Lord went before them by day in a pillar of cloud to cause it to lead them on the way and at night
in a pillar of fire to give them light, [they thus could] travel day and night.

va-a-do-nai ho-laykh lif-nay-hem yo-mam b'-a-mud a-nan lan-kho-tam ha-de-rekh v'-lai-la b'-a-mud aysh l'-ha-eer la-hem la-le-khet yo-mam va-lai-la

Shabbat Inspiration

The pillar of fire that accompanied the Israelites as they traveled through the barren desert, served as both a physical light, להאיר, 'to brighten' their journey, as well as a spiritual connection to God who was protecting them each step of the way. 'Meir Panim', is an organization that feeds the hungry of Israel; 'meir' literally means 'to brighten', and just like like the pillar of fire of the Bible, 'Meir Panim' brightens the faces of those stricken with poverty, as well as encouraging these unfortunates that God will ultimately provide for them.

Mayor Nir Barkat: “Jerusalem Is a Symbol of Unity”

Mayor of Jerusalem Barkat’s message for Jerusalem Day, on the day where Israel marks the 50th anniversary of Jerusalem’s reunification in the Six Day War of 1967, resonates through the past and future.

As Jerusalem's 50th Anniversary Approaches, Israelis Still Go Hungry in
Holy City

Israelis and Jews worldwide viewed the reunification of Jerusalem as a momentous event, if not a divinely orchestrated occurrence – a gift to the Chosen People from God. But despite the city’s continued growth and development, there are still thousands of needy residents in the city.
