The pillar of fire that accompanied the Israelites as they traveled through
the barren desert, served as both a physical light, להאיר, 'to brighten' their journey, as
well as a spiritual connection to God who was protecting them each step of the
way. 'Meir Panim', is an organization that feeds the hungry of Israel; 'meir'
literally means 'to brighten', and just like like the pillar of fire of the
Bible, 'Meir Panim' brightens the faces of those stricken with poverty, as well
as encouraging these unfortunates that God will ultimately provide for
them.
