High School Principal Tells Student Athletes They Must Stand for National Anthem
Any student caught kneeling will be penalized.

On Thursday, a letter from Principal Waylon Bates at Parkway High School in Louisiana was sent home to student athletes and parents informing them that players will not be allowed to take a knee during the national anthem when it is played before ballgames. Anyone caught doing so could be removed from the team.
“The LHSAA (Louisiana High School Athletic Association) allows school principals to make decisions regarding student participation in the National Anthem while competing in athletic contests and games,” Bates wrote. “Parkway High School requires student athletes to stand in a respectful manner throughout the National Anthem during any sporting event in which their team is participating.”
“Failure to comply will result in loss of playing time and/or participation as directed by the head coach and principal,” Bates added. “Continued failure to comply will result in removal from the team.”
Bates said the decision to crackdown on would-be protesters is to ensure “a positive environment for sporting events” and to prevent “disruption.”
