James Comey insists that he has “not worried about” a criminal inquiry into the origins of the Russia probe. Nevertheless, the former FBI Director jokes that he’ll “move to New Zealand” if President Trump gets re-elected.
Comey made the comments on Saturday during an interview at Politicon with journalist Nicole Wallace.

“Not worried about a single thing”

“Are you surprised, Wallace asked, “that he’s now gotten an ally in the effort to attack the origins of the investigation?” She was referring to Attorney General William Barr, someone Wallace accused of being “very comfortable meddling in an investigation being run from the U.S. Attorney from Connecticut.”

Comey said he was “deeply concerned” by Barr’s use of the word “spying” to describe surveillance efforts directed at the Trump campaign and said he “can’t tell what’s going on with the attorney general.”
“I don’t know what they’re looking at,” he told Wallace.
Still, Comey insisted that he isn’t “not worried about a single thing in connection with any of the matters under investigation” and seemed to believe that he would ultimately be exonerated.
“Gather the facts, write a report, and share it with the American people,” he urged, predicting that the public would ultimately side with him.
“I’m confident that when the American people see the picture of why we did what we did, their confidence in the institution will be maintained, restored, and protected,” Comey predicted. However, the disgraced official didn’t rule out fleeing the country.

Ready to leave if Trump is reelected

In another exchange, Comey said he was “optimistic” that Trump would be removed from office, either via impeachment or a defeat at the polls next year.
“Our leaders must reflect on the glue that holds us together,” he went on. “There cannot be people who lie all the time. There just can’t. I hope people see that is true whether they are Republicans or Democrats.”
Wallace pressed on, asking if he would still believe that if Trump were returned to office.
“I will be, from my new home in New Zeland,” Comey quipped, “I will still believe in America.”
