Police raided a Berlin mosque association with alleged links to Hezbollah on Thursday, after the German government banned the Lebanese group and designated it a terrorist organisation.

Footage shows police conducting the operation at the Al-Irschad association property in the German capital's southeastern Neukoelln borough.

According to police spokesperson Theo Cablitz 150 police were involved in the investigation with "four locations" being targeted in the area.

Police also raided the properties of three other mosque associations with alleged Hezbollah links in Dortmund, Bremen and Muenster.

Germany had previously only banned the military arm of the Lebanese Shia organisation, which authorities estimate has around 1,050 active members in the country.

The EU declared Hezbollah's military wing a terrorist group in 2013, while the UK and US have banned the entire organisation.
