Trump, Nicki Minaj, And A Nigerian Church Defiant In The Face Of Persecution

It's always good to remember that some things are bigger than politics. This is one of them.

If there was any question about whether Trump was willing to use Big Stick diplomacy to help Nigerian leaders take the systematic slaughter of its Christian citizens seriously… we now have our answer.

And you know something unusual is afoot when we have agreement among parties that usually have nothing to say to each other.

How many people, for example, would have predicted an A-list hip-hop star like Nicki Minaj would not only praise Donald Trump’s foreign policy in the most populous African nation, but agree to a meet-and-greet with… Trump’s UN Ambassador?

You can imagine one of those record-scratch freeze-frame moments in a TV show with the lead character saying something like ‘you might be wondering how I found myself in this situation. It all started when…’

In this instance, the ‘when’ was triggered by — what else? — a social media post by Donald Trump.

He was reacting to reports of the mass slaughter of Nigerian Christians, a story with which regular readers of ClashDaily will be well acquainted and the attempts of writers and even some politicians (notably Ted Cruz) to take notice of the fact that thousands of Nigerian Christians have been killed by armed (mostly jihadist) militants.

The Nigerian Christians, like so many of generations of believers before us, are showing great courage in the face of extreme violence, even gathering for worship in what’s left of a church after the militants moved on.

What Trump had to say about the situation was, well, very Trumpian. He skipped the subtle entirely and went straight to the strong language on Truth Social.

Christianity is facing an existential threat in Nigeria. Thousands of Christians are being killed. Radical Islamists are responsible for this mass slaughter. I am hereby making Nigeria a “COUNTRY OF PARTICULAR CONCERN” — But that is the least of it. When Christians, or any such group, is slaughtered like is happening in Nigeria (3,100 versus 4,476 Worldwide), something must be done! I am asking Congressman Riley Moore, together with Chairman Tom Cole and the House Appropriations Committee, to immediately look into this matter, and report back to me. The United States cannot stand by while such atrocities are happening in Nigeria, and numerous other Countries. We stand ready, willing, and able to save our Great Christian population around the World!

DONALD J. TRUMP,
PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

In case there was any lingering doubt in the minds of Nigerian leaders, he underscored his point. Twice.

First, with this follow-up:

And next, by reTruth Pete Hegseth when he said…

The imperative, in this instance, is on Nigerian government to not only decide on the right course of action to stop these wholesale slaughter of entire villages, but to ACT on such a policy.

Nicki Minaj, who occasionally surprises Conservatives by speaking up from time to time with an unusually conservative take on this or that issue of the day, saw his original post on the topic and responded to it.

America’s UN Ambassador saw the comment and responded with a personal invitation to the UN embassy…

Her reply was gracious.

It’s a handy reminder for those who are a little too quick to write people off.
