I Hope You Are Offended

You have tasted that Adonai is good. You are coming to Christ, the living stone who was rejected by humans but was chosen as precious by God. You come to him as living stones, a spiritual house that is being built into a holy priesthood. So offer spiritual sacrifices that God accepts through Yeshua Christ. That is why Scripture says,
“I am laying a chosen and precious cornerstone in Zion,
and the person who believes in him will never be ashamed.”
This honor belongs to those who believe. But to those who don’t believe:
“The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone, a stone that people trip over, a large rock that people find offensive.”
The people tripped over the word [Why?] because they refused to believe it. Therefore, this is how they ended up. (I Peter 2:3-8)
As Michael Card sings,
“Many will be broken so that He can make them whole
And many will be crushed and lose their own soul”
Those are our choices. All of us will be offended, but whether are made whole, or whether we are crushed is all in our hands.
So if my eyes fill with tears as I sing about His Amazing Grace, I hope it offends you; if I raise my trembling hands to praise my Lord and King, I hope it offends you.

When my lips quiver with adoration and fear while I sing “Thou Art Worthy,” I hope you are offended.

If I weep out loud as I see the Love of my Father, I hope to God, you are offended!

Jesus was offended when, after a long journey, and hungry to worship and to join in the praise, he entered the temple and witnessed a wasteland of greed and lust. And again, as Michael Card sings:
And the Lamb is a Lion who’s roaring with rage
At the empty religion that’s filling their days
They’ll flee from the hug of the Carpenter’s strong arm
And come to know the scourging anger of the Lord
I love that phrase: “They’ll flee from the hug of the Carpenter’s strong arm.” Are you fleeing from the hug of the Carpenter’s strong arm? Back in 1982, Phillip Kern wrote a book entitled, “Fake It, Until You Make It.” It was a scathing analysis of the MLM industry, but it applies equally to many modern-day churches.
In his book, Kern pointed out that more money was made in MLM by selling books about selling in MLM, than in the business itself. And I don’t know if it is still prevalent today, but back in the 80′s, the busiest places in any church or Christian conference were the book and tape tables. Many ministers made millions selling their books and tapes.
I have no problem with wealth, but when someone’s faith is only built on what “Brother Do-Dad” wrote or said, and they have no heart-felt love and adoration of their Savior — and are indeed “fleeing from the hug of the Carpenter’s strong arm.” I am offended.
When King David danced in the street half naked, you better believe folks were offended. But why wouldn’t he? He knew the Joy of his Lord, he knew the awesome wonderful of his King! People are offended when such joy is displayed, yet the Psalmist understood why someone would do such a thing:
Let them praise his name with dancing, making melody to him with tambourine and lyre! (Psalm 149:3)
Praise the Lord!
Praise God in his sanctuary;
Praise him in his mighty heavens!
Praise him for his mighty deeds;
Praise him according to his excellent greatness!
Praise him with trumpet sound;
Praise him with lute and harp!
Praise him with tambourine and dance;
Praise him with strings and pipe!
Praise him with sounding cymbals;
Praise him with loud clashing cymbals! (Psalm 150:1-6)
You have turned my mourning into dancing; you have loosed my sackcloth and clothed me with gladness (Psalm 30:11)
Does that offend you? Why wouldn’t they make such a noise? Have they discovered something you have missed?
I will praise the Lord as long as I live;
I will sing praises to my God while I have my being
(Psalm 146:2)
I hope you can remember this song from Rich Mullins:
There’s more that rises in the morning than the sun
More that shines in the night than just the moon
There’s more than just this fire here that keeps me warm
In a shelter that is larger than this room
There’s a loyalty that’s deeper than mere sentiment
A music higher than the songs that I can sing
The stuff of earth competes for the allegiance
I owe only to the giver of all good things
So if I stand let me stand on the promise
That You will pull me through
And if I can’t, let me fall on the grace
That first brought me to You
If I sing let me sing for the joy
That has bornin me these songs
But if I weep let it be as a man
Who is longing for his home

Play it again and again . . . let it be a song that consumes your life and reflects your faith! “If I weep let it be as a man who is longing for his home . . .” (oh my goodness . . . I can’t stop weeping . . . I love my Messiah and I so wish for you to know that love yourself)
I believe in God the Father
Almighty Maker of Heaven and Maker of Earth
And in Jesus Christ His only begotten Son, our Lord
He was conceived by the Holy Spirit
Born of the virgin Mary
Suffered under Pontius Pilate
He was crucified and dead and buried
And I believe what I believe
Is what makes me what I am
I did not make it, no it is making me
It is the very truth of God
And not the invention of any man
I believe that He who suffers
Was crucified, buried, and dead
He descended into hell and
On the third day, rose again
He ascended into Heaven
Where He sits at God’s mighty right hand
I believe that He’s returning
To judge the quick and the dead
Of the sons of men
And I believe what I believe
Is what makes me what I am
I did not make it, no it is making me
It is the very truth of God
And not the invention of any man
I believe it, I believe it
I believe it
I believe it, I believe it
I believe in God the Father
Almighty Maker of Heaven and Maker of Earth
And in Jesus Christ His only begotten Son, our Lord
I believe in the Holy Spirit
One Holy Church, the communion of Saints
The forgiveness of sin
I believe in the resurrection
I believe in a life that never ends
And I believe what I believe
Is what makes me what I am
I did not make it, no it is making me
I did not make it, no it is making me
I said, “I did not make it, no it is making me”
It is the very truth of God
And not the invention of any man
I believe it, I believe it
I believe it, I believe
I believe it, I believe it
I believe it, I believe it
I believe it, I believe it
I believe it

I hope that offends you . . .
