Quote of the Day
"The Democratic Party is turning left. It’s not about 'Bernie' now, and his followers are not going away. It is about the political impulses of the party’s young, which is to say its future. They are part of a tide of the passionate, the ideological and the underinformed. They have no idea what socialism is or what it has done in the past to great nations, and they appear to want it. I guess we’ll have to go through that argument again." —Peggy Noonan

Washington D.C had a violent Saturday that left eight people shot, two fatally. One of the shooting victims was a 6-year-old child.
The child was one of eight people shot Saturday in Northwest and Southeast Washington. Two of the victims — a 19-year-old woman in an apartment in Southeast and a 29-year-old man in Columbia Heights — died from their wounds. Their deaths ended a 14-day stretch without a homicide in the District.
The child was shot near a playground in a neighborhood described as "broken and filthy." He was shot in the left leg and was reported to be conscious at the hospital. "D.C. Police Capt. Kelvin Cusick said the circumstances of the shooting were not immediately clear, but it appears that the child was not an intended target when at least one gunman opened fire shortly before 5 p.m. in the 2500 block of Pomeroy Road."
Trayon White, who in June won the Democratic primary for the Ward 8 City Council seat, said the playground is dilapidated and riddled with animal feces.
“There’s a lot of neglect here,” he said. White also said the community needs to step up but “the police have to meet us halfway. MPD has to be present.”
White said the police “need to put a force out greater than what they have here.”
Prior to the Saturday shooting, 70 people had been murdered in D.C. so far this year.

Hillary Clinton appeared on Fox News for an extended interview with Chris Wallace on Sunday.
Wallace turned the conversation to the scandal and FBI investigation surrounding her use of a private, homebrewed email server to conduct State Department business.
Wallace described, “After a long investigation, FBI Director James Comey said none of those things that you told the American public were true.”
Chris, that’s not what I heard Director Comey say, and I thank you for giving me the opportunity, in my view, to clarify. Director Comey said my answers were truthful, and what I’ve said is consistent with what I have told the American people, that there were decisions discussed and made to classify retroactively certain of the e-mails. I was communicating with over 300 people in my e-mailing. They certainly did not believe and had no reason to believe that what they were sending was classified. In retrospect, different agencies come in and say, well, it should have been, but that’s not what was happening in real time.
Comey described Clinton's behavior as "extremely reckless."
Here's the transcript from Comey's congressional testimony and Q & A with Rep. Trey Gowdy:
GOWDY: Secretary Clinton said there was nothing marked classified on her emails either sent or received. Was that true?
COMEY: That’s not true.
GOWDY: Secretary Clinton said, “I did not email any classified material to anyone on my email. There is no classified material.” Was that true?
COMEY: There was classified material emailed.

On Friday, two teens were arrested for attempting to kill police officers in Columbia, Pennsylvania. No one was hurt following the incident.
It’s unclear whether the two suspects were trying to draw in police officers with the shots, Lancaster County District Attorney Craig Stedman said. But, he said, once the firing started, there’s no indication that they were attempting to hit anyone else.
The two suspects, one 17-years-old and the other 18, both of Columbia, are each charged with four counts of attempted criminal homicide of a law enforcement officer and related offenses. They are each being held in Lancaster County jail on $2 million bail.
"There's absolutely no question, with incidents like this and incidents that we've seen in the recent past, recent history, is that we — as a nation — are fighting for our soul: the soul of our community, and the soul of our country," Stedman said.
Early Friday morning police responded to a call about shots being fired. Once the officer arrived at the scene, he came under gunfire. The gunfire continued for more than 30 minutes. Another officer arrived at the scene and also was shot at, along with other first responders.
One of the suspects told the police: "I was shooting at you." The teen also used explicatives towards the police.
Stedman said it's “not just rhetoric anymore.” Police officers, he said, “literally are the force that stands between order, justice, civilization and a land of laws — and a land of anarchy and chaos."
“These men and women, these police officers, have made the commitment to serve, to protect the community, to protect all of us,” he said. “They've made the commitment, while the rest of us run from danger, to run toward danger."

A manhunt is still underway in Carbondale, Illinois after a police officer was shot and seriously wounded during a high speed police chase.
As the officers were headed to the scene, they found a tan, four-door vehicle, driving away from the area at a high rate of speed.
The officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but the drivers would not come to a halt, resulting in a police chase.
During the chase, the suspect fired multiple gunshots at the police, hitting the police car and one of the police officers.
The officer was seriously wounded, and taken to Memorial Hospital but had to be transferred to a hospital in St. Louis for further treatment.
Illinois law enforcement are still investigating the incident and searching for the suspect.

While it may not come as a shock to those of us who've seen the bias all along, other media consumers in this country still don't believe left-wing media pervades mainstream media.
With that in mind, here's additional proof of just how egregious that bias has gotten. The American Mirror blog juxtaposed two different headlines from the same MSNBC author about two different grieving parents who spoke at their party conventions.
The grieving parents of fallen American soldier Humayun S.M. Khan were upheld in the highest esteem and depicted as in control of their own minds, while Pat Smith, mother of another American hero -- Benghazi victim Sean Smith -- was painted as nothing more than a political prop by the GOP.

Mainstream media attacked Pat Smith routinely after her speech, with anchors like Chris Matthews accusing her of lying outright.
During her interview with Fox News' Chris Wallace Sunday, Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton even went so far as to say that Ms. Smith, in the throes of grief immediately following the Benghazi siege, had poor recollection of what she had been told concerning her son's death. Ms. Smith maintains that Hillary Clinton told her that her son's death was the result of an uprising caused by a low-budge anti-Islam YouTube video, and that the maker of that video would be brought to justice. The former Secretary of State now asserting that the grieving Benghazi mother was too emotion to remember that conversation accurately.
The Kahn's, meanwhile, are being upheld to a much different standard, and no mainstream media outlet has deigned question their grief has having catalyzed their emotional speech at the Democratic National Convention.
