A supervolcano which in case of eruption will blow all of North America and doom half of the world to slow death is starting to wake up. Can’t we do anything about it?
First let’s decide on what is a supervolcano. It’s nothing like a regular volcano – a cone-shaped formation with a vent – it’s more of a huge depression with the eruption area covering a few thousand square kilometers. For instance, a supervolcanic eruption on the Indonesian island of Sumatra caused six years of sulfuric acid rains. Add to this the dust clouds blocking the sun for quite a while, and you will get a picture very similar to nuclear winter. The supervolcano left no more than ten thousand people on the entire planet.
Nowadays, there’s also a threat of volcano eruption. There is a supervolcano in Yellowstone National Park, USA, at the height of 2,500 meters. Until recently, it has been considered dormant. On the outside Yellowstone National Park is covered with a picturesque landscape, while on the inside it is a vast valley filled with molten magma.

The IDF is “cautiously optimistic” in its assessment of the security challenges of 2017, expecting to get to the other side “without having to wage major combat operations,” writes DefenseNews‘ Barbara Opall-Rome, after an interview with a senior defense official in Tel Aviv. However, she quotes the same official, “Today, the most probable war is one in which both sides didn’t want it, but due to the dynamic of escalation, we might find ourselves in it.”
The senior official told Opall-Rome that Israel is cautious and mindful of “unintended consequences” resulting from its actions regarding Hezbollah up north, Hamas in Gaza, the Palestinian Authority, and even faraway countries such as Iran.
In his opinion, the hierarchy of threats against Israel in 2017 will be: 1. The PA; 2. Hamas; and 3. Iran-backed Hezbollah, which, despite the fact that it is the strongest of the three “the probability [for confrontation] is low, as long as we don’t get into a dynamic of escalation.”
Israel is anxious about the possibility that Iran and Hezbollah stay put in a ruined Syria after the Russians have reduced their presence there. The senior official is not concerned about Israel’s ability to deal with Bashar al-Assad, rather “our concern is that Iran and Hezbollah will grow ever more confident in Syria when the superpowers leave or reduce their presence… and that will not be a good end to this story.”
Hezbollah worries this security official because “they haven’t stopped for one day their buildup against Israel… and we don’t want to wait for the first day of the war,” meaning, obviously, that Israel would continue to use preemptive operations, such as the “unconfirmed” attacks on Syrian armories and on truck convoys hauling advanced weapons across the Lebanese border, to be handed to Hezbollah.
“When you let so many weapons systems get into Lebanon, you push a higher probability of a war,” the official said, noting that “[Hizbollah leader Hassan] Nasrallah speaks almost every week about the day they will conquer Israel. And if he speaks like that every week, why wait? Why give him a feeling of being strong enough?”
He also suggested that Hezbollah forces in Syria could turn on the Russians, using their advanced arms, including their anti-aircraft weapons. “If I had opportunity to give advice to President Putin,” he told Opall-Rome, “I’d say you should keep an eye on Hezbollah if you want a stable Middle East and if you want to protect your gains in Syria.”

In the wake of UN Security Council resolution 2334(2016), Arab terrorists are becoming even bolder, with stoning attacks against Israeli drivers escalating Monday even further.
Below is a list of some of the attacks that took place on Monday:
Arab terrorists smashed the windshield of an Israeli Egged bus in a stoning attack Monday night at the intersection of Uzi Narkiss and Neve Yaakov in Jerusalem. Miraculously, the driver managed to keep the bus moving, and none of the passengers were physically injured in the attack.
Arab sources reported an improvised explosive device was thrown at Israeli military forces Monday afternoon during operations near the northern entrance to the town of Bethlehem. No injuries or damage reported and all personnel returned safely to base.
A gang of some 15 Arab terrorists attacked a transport van filled with Jewish students on Monday morning. The van came under a hail of rocks as it was traveling the road north of the Adorim junction. None of the passengers were physically injured, but there was no word on whether the vehicle was damaged.
Terrorists also attacked an Israeli bus driver Monday late morning on the Gush Etzion-Hebron Highway, also known as Highway 60. The attackers hurled stones at the bus as it passed the Arab village of Beit Omar. None of the passengers were physically injured, but again, no word on damage to the bus. Beit Omar is known as a terrorist stronghold in the Judea region and a hotspot for stoning attacks on Israeli drivers.
There were more stoning attacks at midday on Israeli drivers traveling the Gush Etzion-Hebron Highway between Beit Omar and the junction to the Jewish community of Karmei Tzur, south of Gush Etzion, 20 minutes’ drive from Jerusalem. No one was physically injured, but at least one car was damaged in the attack.
Ten minutes after that attack, Arab terrorists were back on the same road, attempting to kill Israeli drivers by stoning. This time the ambush took place south of Beit Omar, and from an easterly direction. The driver whose car was hit reported no physical injuries to passengers in the vehicle, but the car was damaged.
Meanwhile, north of Jerusalem, Arab terrorists were stoning Israeli drivers between the Jewish community of Neve Tzuf and the community of Nahliel. No physical injuries were reported there.
In the Binyamin region, four terrorists were spotted as they were stoning Israeli drivers on the road between the Jewish communities of Beit El and Psagot. There were no physical injuries, but no word on damage to the vehicles.
Closer to Jerusalem in the early afternoon, terrorists hurled rocks at an Israeli bus traveling along Highway 443, known as the old Tel Aviv-Jerusalem Highway. The attack occurred near the A-Tira Bridge. No one was physically injured in the attack.
