Canadians are known for their laid-back approach to life and politics. But in recent weeks, Canada has become the epicenter of the world's most powerful pushback against vaccine mandates.
Church Militant's Nadia Hazimeh reports on the Freedom Convoy and the truckers spearheading it, who are coming to be seen all over the globe as heroes.
Dr. Roger Hodkinson: "This is a moment in history where there's a tremendous amount on the table."
Canada's Freedom Convoy is remaining steadfast despite growing tensions. The mayor of Ottawa (the nation's capital) declared a state of emergency over the weekend, cracking down on the truckers.
Police warned: "Anyone attempting to bring material supports to the demonstrators could be subject to arrest." But yesterday, the convoy held a press conference confirming their resolve and peacefulness.
Josh, trucker, Freedom Convoy: "We have worked with local law authority and government to keep this exactly what we have intended it to be. It is a peaceful demonstration."
Joseph, trucker, Freedom Convoy: "I have a right to be here. I pay taxes in this country, and our government is violating the law. They have been for two years now."
Truckers in the border town of Coutts, Alberta also are standing firm. Reinforcements came in the form of over 300 cowboys carrying Canadian flags.
Alberta's premier, Jason Kenney (a conservative in name only), appeared to tiptoe away from mandates last week.
Alberta premier Jason Kenney: "The rationale for the proof-of-vaccination program ... is not as strong today as when we introduced it in September."
But the truckers in Coutts were having none of it. In a Friday press conference, they called on members of the legislative assembly of Alberta to step down and become independents.
Freedom convoys are spreading across the world — in Germany, New Zealand and the United States.
The ball is now in the globalists' court. How they will proceed against the will of the people is hard to predict.
The Ottawa police chief called the freedom convoy a "siege." But observers have noted "aggressive shows of police force," including snipers on tops of buildings and officers in tactical gear swarming the protestors to confiscate fuel.
A number of people have been arrested for "unspecified mischief," and over 500 have been issued tickets for excessive honking and seat belt violations.
