I’m grateful for so many of you who prayed for me this week as I traveled to Washington, D.C., where I joined other pastors and leaders at the Israeli Embassy for a conversation about the October 7 attacks. We viewed footage from that day. It was horrific but ultimately necessary to see, and I’m grateful for your support. I felt lifted up spiritually, mentally and emotionally. And as I said in my video this week, I hope you’ll continue to pray—for the Jewish people, for the nation of Israel, and for the innocent Palestinians who are suffering because of Hamas. I’m praying for a seismic shift in consciousness as people begin to understand what Israel is going through right now. Now, on to this week’s Saturday Seven. 1. Wisdom from ScriptureFor You, Lord, are good, and ready to forgive, 6 Give ear, O Lord, to my prayer; 2. Quote to Consider“The solemn reality of this moment in Israel should underscore the urgent need for us to join in concerted prayer, boldly proclaim the gospel, and prepare people’s hearts to meet their Creator face to face. As dark clouds ominously gather, we call on the Church to arise in authority and hope-filled faith to scatter the forces of evil and rescue every soul within our reach. Until our redemption finally arrives, we will occupy and abide in Christ as we labor in the fields that are ripe for harvest.” [from our book What’s Next? Israel-Gaza War] 3. Pay Attention to This NewsOn Tuesday, a bipartisan group of U.S. senators introduced a bill that would criminalize the spread of sexualized images generated by artificial intelligence, a direct response to sexually explicit digital forgeries of Taylor Swift that took over X (formerly Twitter). Senators Dick Durbin, Lindsey Graham, Amy Klobuchar and Josh Hawley have introduced the Disrupt Explicit Forged Images and Non-Consensual Edits Act of 2024, also known as the “Defiance Act.” The fake images and videos, generated by AI, received tens of millions of views earlier this week on the social network site. In related and equally concerning news, a fake robocall using the AI-generated voice of Joe Biden told Democrats not to vote in the days before the New Hampshire primary. Experts say these kinds of AI-generated voter suppression efforts will likely be ongoing during the 2024 presidential campaign season. 4. Comment of the Week“This was a blessing for me to see the museum and especially Christ’s Church. I have a better insight of what is happening in Israel. I will pray for the safety of his son and all the soldiers fighting. Lord have mercy on them and keep them safe.” —Tipping Point subscriber Faye Lynn in the comments after Tuesday’s Israel Update with Brian Schrauger. 5. Definition of the Week: SabbathSabbath: A biblically mandated day of rest originating in the Genesis story of Creation. God rested on the seventh day after creating the world, and then established the Sabbath as holy in Exodus 20:8-11. It is viewed as a sign of the covenant between God and His people and is mentioned in both the Old and New Testaments. The original observance of the Sabbath was on Saturday, and Jews still consider it the primary day of worship and rest. However, the Resurrection of Jesus occurred on Sunday, the first day of the week (see Matthew 28:1). Because of the centrality of the Resurrection, followers of Jesus began gathering on Sunday to symbolize the new covenant, and that tradition continues today. 6. Link of the WeekABCNews reported on congressional testimony from FBI Director Christopher Wray on Wednesday that hackers in China are currently targeting critical U.S. infrastructure, including “our water treatment plants, our electrical grid, our oil and natural gas pipelines, our transportation systems,” he said. The hackers are preparing to “cause real-world harm” by attacking the economic security of Americans. Wray was testifying in front of the House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist party. 7. Headline of the WeekThe sun’s poles are about to flip. It’s awesome—and slightly terrifying.
