"Trust in HaShem; be strong and of good courage! O Trust in HaShem!"

(Psalms 27:14)

Tishrei 16, 5785/September 18, 2024

Safety! Security! We want it, we need it, we demand it! Bolted steel doors, padlocks, electric gates, security cameras, alarm systems, safe rooms, bomb shelters... We live in a frightening world and all we want is to feel safe and secure in our own homes.

Nowhere has home safety been so compromised as in Israel, as evident by the atrocities committed by Gazan terrorists one year ago on October 7th, when thousands broke into Israeli homes and murdered, tortured, raped, burned alive and kidnapped innocent families waking up on a sleepy Shabbat morning. Just one day later Hezbollah terrorists began firing into northern Israel the first of what would become more than 10,000 missiles, RPGs and suicide drones, forcing 100,000 people out of their homes.

This Wednesday evening, with the war on both fronts still raging, the entire population of Israel did the inconceivable: they left the (relative) safety of their concrete homes to spend the next seven days living in makeshift booths, barely strong enough to stand up to the elements, let alone enemy rocket fire.

These makeshift booths, known in Hebrew as sukkot, are the dwelling places of every Jew who celebrates the seven day holiday, also known as Sukkot, as commanded by Torah:

"For a seven day period you shall live in booths. Every resident among the Israelites shall live in booths, in order that your ensuing generations should know that I had the children of Israel live in booths when I took them out of the land of Egypt. I am HaShem, your G-d." (Leviticus 23:42-43)

There is no place on earth safer or more secure than the sukkot that G-d commanded Israel to dwell in. Just as the clouds of glory protected Israel in the wilderness, the sukkot protects Israel today. To dwell in the sukkah for seven days, to have one's meals in the sukkah, to invite guests into the sukkah and to sleep in the sukkah is an uncompromising act of faith in HaShem, and trusting in HaShem is the ultimate attainment of security.

One year ago, on the very day following Sukkot, when all Israel had left their fragile booths and returned to their permanent homes, disaster struck. This Thursday afternoon, while all Israel celebrated the first day of Sukkot in their fragile booths, a tank unit from the Israel Defense Forces eliminated the evil, despicable beast Yahya Sinwar, the mastermind of last year's massacre, may he rot eternally in hell.

As the psalmist implores us, "Trust in HaShem; be strong and of good courage! O Trust in HaShem!" (Psalm 27:14)

The Festival of Sukkot In The Holy Temple!

The special joy that marks the celebration of the Festival of Sukkot in the Holy Temple renders Sukkot unique among the Three Festivals. The arba minim (four species), the sukkot that we dwell in and the Water Libation Ceremony are just some of the many reasons why Torah calls Sukkot the festival of joy!

the high times between Yom Kippur & Sukkot, about the irrepressible commandment to be happy on Sukkot, and about eating & drinking at the table of HaShem!

Nothing says the best of both possible worlds like Sukkot, when we dwell in our sukkot which span the heavens and the earth. Gratitude is joy and Sukkot is a festival of harvest and unity.

IDF Soldiers Build A Sukkah In Gaza!

For the first time since Israel pulled out all its citizens in 2005, IDF soldiers have built a sukkah in Gaza, in anticipation of Chag Sukkot, which begins Wednesday evening.

Sukkot: The Arba Minim - Four Species

Concerning the proper observance of Sukkot, Torah tells us:
"But on the fifteenth day of the seventh month, when you gather in the produce of the land, you shall celebrate the festival of HaShem for a seven day period; the first day shall be a rest day, and the eighth day shall be a rest day. And you shall take for yourselves on the first day, the fruit of the hadar tree, date palm fronds, a branch of a braided tree, and willows of the brook, and you shall rejoice before HaShem your G-d for a seven day period." (Leviticus 23:39-40)

The Secret Minyan

Journeying back through Jewish history to the time of the Temples, in their grandeur and destruction, brings you forward to the time when the prayers shall be chanted in this very same holy place. Read below to learn where that place is.

Getting Ready For Sukkot!

"For a seven day period you shall live in booths. Every resident among the Israelites shall live in booths, in order that your ensuing generations should know that I had the children of Israel live in booths when I took them out of the land of Egypt. I am HaShem, your G-d." (Numbers 29:42-43)

There is no busier time for Israel than the festival of Sukkot. To prepare for Sukkot every family or individual must build a sukkah - a temporary booth, barely strong enough to sustain the elements, and place upon it a roof of vegetation, most commonly in Israel, palm fronds.

Another First On The Temple Mount!

A kohen, (a modern day descendant of Aharon, brother of Moshe, the first Kohen Gadol), wearing completely kosher bigdei kehunah (priestly garments, produced by the Temple Institute), ascended the Temple Mount last week, where he administered the priestly blessing, (birkat kohanim, Numbers 6:22-26), alongside his fellow kohanim, blessing his fellow Jews. The times, they are-a-changing!

Shavua Tov From The Temple Mount!

Yom Kippur is behind us and the holiday of Sukkot is just days away. 1,344 Jews ascended the Temple Mount during the days between Rosh HaShana and Yom Kippur, where they prayed, were blessed by kohanim, and prostrated themselves as our forefathers did before the Holy Temple. The Hebrew year of 5784, which just concluded, saw 56,057 Jews ascend the Temple Mount, the highest number in modern times.

Shavua tov - have a very good week!

Yom Kippur, Conclusion: Ne'ila - Closing Of The Temple Gates

As the sun sets and Yom Kippur concludes, the kohanim close the gates of both the Sanctuary and the courtyards. At the same time, the last of those who came to watch the service left for their homes. The Jerusalem Talmud (Berakhot 4:1) teaches that the hour for closing the gate was the time at which the prayer of Ne’ila – Hebrew for “closing” – was recited.

Yom Kippur, Conclusion: A Celebration Of Thanks

At the conclusion of this awesome day, after all the service was completed and the day had waned, the Kohen Gadol was accompanied by the entire multitude of worshipers back to his own home. "When the Kohen Gadol exited from the holy place unharmed, he made a celebration for his loved ones" (ibid., 4) at the conclusion of Yom Kippur - to give thanks to G-d that he successfully guided the service, and was neither rendered unfit nor adversely affected.

Tren de Aragua Gang Terrorism Specially Protected by Liberal Law BY MARK MEGAHAN OCTOBER 17, 2024

Tren de Aragua Gang Terrorism Specially Protected by Liberal Law

Honest, law abiding American citizens need to move away from New York City if they value their lives. Because progressive Democrats running the metropolis granted “sanctuary” status to migrant killers, cops are “handcuffed.” Prevented from “clamping down on a violent crew” of young Tren de Aragua members that is terrorizing Manhattan. “It’s a problem.”

Law protects criminals

The phrase “law enforcement” is a total joke to New York City Police Department officers. The only laws which actually get prosecuted are the ones protecting the criminals. When the Democrats in charge proclaimed New York a sanctuary city, they loosened their already “lenient criminal justice laws” to bar “police from city-funded migrant shelters that have become a hotbed for gang activity.

Venezuelan gangsters are allowed to rob, kill or sell drugs to anyone they please. The Latin Kings aren’t as tolerant as the cops. Their patience is wearing thin and the morgue expects a busy month.

It’s a problem,” one law enforcement source relates. “We’re essentially allowing a criminal enterprise now involving minors to percolate in the shelter system without the police being able to do what would be normal due diligence when minors are involved in crime.

You can thank Kamala Harris for letting them in. Even Bill Clinton can see that. Hispanic delinquents “as young as 11 are being recruited to join Tren de Aragua and committing crimes in the city.

NYPD is especially frustrated by “a baby-faced pack of the violent Venezuelan gang” calling itself “Diablos de la 42.” That means the Devils of 42nd Street and they’re a group of hellions for sure.

Totally protected by the law, they graduated from snatching purses and jewelry to “targeting locals and tourists in armed heists around Times Square.

We’re essentially allowing a criminal enterprise now involving minors to percolate in the shelter system.

Go out and play

The armed and dangerous pre-teens are being “recruited by migrant gang members in city shelters.” The Roosevelt Hotel in Midtown is the most popular. They’re quickly “sent out to do the dirty work.”

The migrants outsmarted city officials to exploit loopholes in the law. As the song says, when “you’re under 18 you won’t be doing any time.” So, what are ya waiting for, go out and play. “That’s why they are recruiting from middle school,” another federal immigration source said. “Easy to move merchandise and guns. Police aren’t gonna stop an 8-year-old kid. And it goes back to the DAs office in sanctuary cities.

Police aren’t allowed inside the building, even though it’s operated totally at taxpayer expense. Unless they have a warrant. Getting a warrant out of a Manhattan judge is like pulling a hat out of a rabbit. NYPD youth coordination officers “are also unable to get into the shelters to keep tabs on migrant kids.”

Not only that, “sanctuary cities also refuse to cooperate with federal authorities, with local cops barred from alerting U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement when a migrant is accused of a crime, meaning the feds are unable to immediately take them into custody and start deportation proceedings.” The law clearly sides with the criminals.

Rival gangs don’t have that particular problem. They make their own laws and enforce them with gusto. A retired 72-year-old bartender and Hell’s Kitchen resident who only identified himself as Alexander would love to see some real law enforcement.

He sees peaceful migrants who’ve been here, after being properly vetted, get shot to pieces by the newcomers. “Think about that,” he said. “Your kids are getting recruited by the same piece-a-s–t gangs you just crawled through a jungle and climbed onto a moving train to get away from. They get here and now their kids are getting recruited right out of the room next door. Poor bastards.
