Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby, leader of the Church of England and the global Anglican Communion, has announced that he will be resigning amid outrage over an abuse cover-up scandal.

In a statement posted to the Church of England’s website on Tuesday, Welby announced his decision to step down, having received “the gracious permission of” King Charles III.

“The Makin Review has exposed the long-maintained conspiracy of silence about the heinous abuses of John Smyth,” stated Welby. “When I was informed in 2013 and told that police had been notified, I believed wrongly that an appropriate resolution would follow.”

“It is very clear that I must take personal and institutional responsibility for the long and retraumatizing period between 2013 and 2024.”

Welby went on to say that he hoped “this decision makes clear how seriously the Church of England understands the need for change and our profound commitment to creating a safer church.”

“The last few days have renewed my long felt and profound sense of shame at the historic safeguarding failures of the Church of England. For nearly twelve years I have struggled to introduce improvements. It is for others to judge what has been done,” he stated.

“In the meantime, I will follow through on my commitment to meet victims. I will delegate all my other current responsibilities for safeguarding until the necessary risk assessment process is complete.”

Welby believed that his resignation “is in the best interests of the Church of England,” and prayed that “this decision points us back towards the love that Jesus Christ has for every one of us.”

Earlier this month, an independent investigation released a report, known as the Makin Report, which found that a figure named John Smyth likely abused over 100 boys and young adult men, while they attended Christian camps from the late 1970s into the early 1980s.

Smyth had died in 2018 at the age of 75 while living in Zimbabwe, with British authorities reportedly being in the process of having him extradited to the United Kingdom to face charges.

“Despite considerable efforts by individuals to bring to the attention of relevant authorities the scope and horror of Smyth’s conduct, including by victims and by some clergy, the steps taken by the Church of England and other organizations and individuals were ineffective and neither fully exposed nor prevented further abuse by him,” stated the investigative report, as quoted by Episcopal News Service.

Many accused Welby of failing to properly act when these credible abuse allegations were first reported to him and other church leaders back in 2013, with the archbishop facing mounting calls for his resignation.

An online petition was started last week calling for Welby to step down, with it garnering more than 13,000 signatories by the time that the Church of England leader had agreed to resign.

“Given his role in allowing abuse to continue, we believe that his continuing as the Archbishop of Canterbury is no longer tenable. We must see change, for the sake of survivors, for the protection of the vulnerable, and for the good of the Church,” stated the petition.

“With sadness we do not think there is any alternative to his immediate resignation if the process of change and healing is to start now.”

Trump Selects Pro-Israel Rep. Elise Stefanik as US Ambassador to UN A Staunch Ally for Israel Takes the Helm in Global Diplomacy. November 11, 2024 • Estimated Reading Time: 3 minutes

Trump Selects Pro-Israel Rep. Elise Stefanik as US Ambassador to UN

A Staunch Ally for Israel Takes the Helm in Global Diplomacy.

President-elect Donald Trump has confirmed that Congresswoman Elise Stefanik will serve as his administration’s U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations. The choice of Stefanik, a Republican representative and an outspoken advocate for Israel, signals Trump’s commitment to strengthening U.S.-Israel ties on the international stage. “Elise is an incredibly strong, tough, and smart America First fighter,” Trump told the New York Post.

Stefanik, a well-known advocate for pro-Israel policies, has made her stance on issues surrounding Israel and antisemitism widely known. Accepting the nomination, she voiced her dedication to advancing a secure U.S. foreign policy that firmly backs America’s allies. In recent comments, Stefanik expressed her concern over the Biden administration’s handling of Palestinian sanctions, noting, “Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are choosing to ignore the law and waiving mandatory terrorism sanctions on the Palestinian government.” This position echoes her commitment to combat policies that she perceives as detrimental to Israel’s security.

Throughout her career, Stefanik has been a vocal critic of the Biden administration’s foreign policies, particularly regarding Iran and Palestine, and has championed policies she believes will protect Israel from regional threats. Notably, in 2023, Stefanik gained national attention during a congressional hearing with the leaders of top American universities, where she challenged them on their policies surrounding antisemitism and safety for Jewish students on campus. She later reinforced her commitment to Jewish and pro-Israel students during a Knesset event in May, declaring that "there is no excuse for an American president to block aid to Israel."

Stefanik has also made headlines for her strong condemnation of Hamas, describing the struggle against the group as one between “civilization and barbarism.” Her statements reflect her belief that supporting Israel is both a moral imperative and a strategic necessity. "The majority of American citizens stand with Israel,” she said, aligning herself with Trump’s “peace through strength” approach, which she credits for bolstering security for the U.S. and its allies.

As she prepares to take on the role of Ambassador to the UN, Stefanik’s established pro-Israel stance is likely to shape her actions and influence U.S. diplomacy on the global stage. She has repeatedly demonstrated her willingness to challenge any policy that she perceives as compromising Israel’s security or America’s standing as a steadfast ally.

Stefanik’s appointment marks a clear shift in U.S. foreign policy that emphasizes loyalty to allies like Israel, a move many Israelis and supporters around the world will likely celebrate.

Warren Attacks Trump – “I Wrote The Law!”; Even though she said she wrote the law, Democrat Senator Elizabeth Warren is once again attacking President-elect Donald Trump as she is accusing him of breaking federal laws before even taking office.

Warren Attacks Trump – “I Wrote The Law!”

(StraightShooterNews.com) – Even though she said she wrote the law, Democrat Senator Elizabeth Warren is once again attacking President-elect Donald Trump as she is accusing him of breaking federal laws before even taking office.

See the tweet below.

Warren, known for her far-left policies and frequent criticism of conservatives, has launched a new assault on Trump. She claimed that he and his transition team are violating federal transition laws, laws that she supposedly helped create.

This accusation comes as Trump prepares to return to the White House, much to the dismay of the liberal establishment.

The Massachusetts Senator took to X to voice her concerns, stating, “Donald Trump and his transition team are already breaking the law.” She added, “I would know because I wrote the law.”

Warren’s allegations center around the Presidential Transition Act, which requires incoming presidents to prevent conflicts of interest and sign an ethics agreement.

However, her claims ignore the complex realities of transitioning from a successful business career to the highest office in the land.

Warren’s accusations stem from a CNN report suggesting that Trump’s team is delaying the submission of transition agreements to the Biden administration due to a conflict-of-interest pledge.

The Senator’s allegations of “illegal corruption” seem to overlook the fact that Trump has already proven his ability to separate his business dealings from his role as president during his first term.

In addition, another outspoken Trump critic, Representative Jamie Raskin (D-MD), joined Warren in expressing concerns over the transition process.

He asserted that Trump’s alleged failure to enter into transition agreements could negatively impact the transfer of power.

Nevertheless, these concerns ignore Trump’s previous successful transition into office and his deep understanding of the presidency.

As of now, Trump’s spokesperson, the White House, and the General Services Administration (GSA) have not commented on these allegations.

This silence could indicate that the claims are being thoroughly reviewed before a response is issued, demonstrating the careful consideration given to such serious accusations.

While Warren and her allies continue to push their narrative of Trump’s alleged lawbreaking, it is crucial for Americans to remember the constant barrage of unfounded accusations that plagued Trump’s first term.

These latest claims are another attempt to undermine the will of the American people and obstruct Trump’s efforts to Make America Great Again.
