A Prayer for Grace When You Mess Up
By: Amanda Idleman

Bible Reading: "The law was brought in so that the trespass might increase. But where sin increased, grace increased all the more, so that, just as sin reigned in death, so also grace might reign through righteousness to bring eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." - Romans 5:20-21

Read or Listen Below:

God’s grace is greater than our sins. What good news this is!

The older I become, the more acutely aware I am that I am not by nature a good person. Left to my own devices, I am short-tempered, selfish, easily fatigued, greedy, gluttonous, and harsh. The idea that I am a ‘good person’ and therefore could make it to heaven by my own merit loses more and more plausibility as I grow in years. I am no good at all and am in desperate need of a savior.

Can you relate? Is there a part of your story that you wish you could change? Is there a sin, a weakness, or a need that feels like it pulls you in even before you have the chance to stop yourself? This is the human condition. We are broken people in need of a good God.

The sooner we recognize our great need for grace, the quicker we can obtain it. God offers us his forgiveness. All we have to do to receive it is to reach out to him, confess our sins, and ask that, by his power, we change our ways. God’s Spirit empowers us to overcome our brokenness and write better stories with our lives. His grace not only forgives us but helps us change, grow, and live in the light.

Oftentimes, our own shame stops us from reaching out and taking hold of this amazing free gift. We feel the need to hide, to wallow away because we feel undeserving of grace. When we buy into this lie that we are unlovable and unforgivable, we get stuck. Our sin becomes us.

Break free from the lies. Accept the truth that Jesus and his grace are greater than our sin. There is no power of darkness that cannot be run out by the light. Step into the light, and, with time, all the dark and evil things will be burnt away.

When we believe that his grace is able, it changes our live,s and more importantly, we believe that it changes our relationships when things start to change. In my marriage, we have been stuck in a cycle of sin and shame. Once I embraced grace for myself, I could extend it to my husband, and I also had hope that the sin that had become so familiar to me could be overcome by God’s power at work in my life.

God’s grace is a miracle worker. It’s the power that defeats sin and death. We have hope that is for now and stretches into eternity because grace has been given to us.

Let’s Pray:
God, we thank you that your grace is abundant! It is more powerful than our sins. We have hope that we can overcome our worst mistakes. Empower me to grab hold of this amazing grace. Silence the lies of the enemy that would want me to believe I am unlovable. Open my heart to accept and fully understand how much you love me and desire me to live in the right relationship with you and others. Cover my sin with your blood. Change me so I can repent and begin to live in a new way that honors you. Amen.

How Fragrant Are You? Your Nightly Prayer for Feb. 28, 2025 By Lynette Kittle

How Fragrant Are You? - Your Nightly Prayer

Your Nightly Prayer

How Fragrant Are You?
Your Nightly Prayer for Feb. 28, 2025
By Lynette Kittle

TONIGHT’S SCRIPTURE

"But thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us reveals the fragrance of the knowledge of Him in every place" -2 Corinthians 2:14

SOMETHING TO PONDER

How many of us know the pleasantness of walking through the perfume sections of department stores with their enticing aromas? Or, on the other hand, experiencing entering a crowded locker room after a physical workout and smelling the unpleasant odors found there?

Whether we like it or not, as humans, our bodies are prone to producing some type of fragrance, whether sweet or not so sweet. Of course, bathing daily helps in what scent we carry on us, and there are options to help us choose what odor we want to spread around in life.

But are we aware of what 2 Corinthians 2:14 reveals, that as our physical bodies carry a specific scent, so does our spiritual condition? As Christians we carry the sweet fragrance of Christ with us, too, one we can enhance by continually bathing in God’s word and practically living it out in our daily lives.

In following Christ, we receive a sweet spiritual fragrance that we can’t help but spread around wherever we go. “For we are to God the pleasing aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing. To the one we are an aroma that brings death; to the other, an aroma that brings life. And who is equal to such a task?” 2 Corinthians 15-16

Whether we’re aware of it or not, as believers in Jesus Christ, God is carrying out His purpose through us. We are spreading the Good News of Him in every place we go, whether to work, on vacation, at the store, or around the block; we are revealing the fragrance of Him.

Often, we as Christians may feel like we don’t have much to offer the world if we don’t have a prominent job, ministry, or name, like our lives don’t really matter much or count with God or men and women. We may wonder what purpose God has for our lives, not understanding that through our presence on earth, God is ministering and calling those who are lost to new life in Him.

YOUR NIGHTLY PRAYER

Dear Father,
Thank You for leading us in triumph in Christ and through us revealing the sweet fragrance of Jesus in every place. Our hearts are deeply grateful for the privilege of carrying a pleasing aroma that not only brings You pleasure but spreads His presence everywhere we go. Help us to appreciate and be aware of His fragrance being expressed through us, and of how we are influencing and bringing life to those around us. Encourage and uplift us through knowing our lives matter and make a difference on earth by fulfilling Your purposes.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen

THREE THINGS TO PONDER UPON

1. Are there specific times when you have been aware of carrying the fragrance of Christ with you? If so, consider how God might have been ministering to others through you.

2. Consider how you can refresh His fragrance in your life by studying His word, spending time in prayer, and fellowshipping with other believers.

3. Ask God to daily lead you in where He wants you to spread His aroma and make His presence known.

White House Defends Musk’s Government Efficiency Mission Despite Bureaucratic Pushback

Elon Musk
The White House and Elon Musk are pushing back forcefully against reports that 21 civil service employees resigned from the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) over ethical concerns. White House officials have joined Musk in downplaying the significance of these departures. What metrics will be used to measure DOGE’s success or failure in reducing government waste?

DOGE Faces Internal Rebellion

Reports emerged on February 25 that 21 civil service employees resigned from the Department of Government Efficiency, citing ethical concerns about the agency’s mission. These employees, who formerly worked for the United States Digital Service (USDS) before it was renamed under Trump’s administration, stated they refused to use their expertise to “dismantle critical public services.”

The resigning employees pointed to conflicts between DOGE’s operations and their oath to serve the American people and uphold the Constitution. Their public statement highlighted concerns that the agency’s focus on eliminating government inefficiencies might undermine essential services provided to citizens.

Musk and White House Dismiss Claims

Elon Musk quickly responded to news of the resignations, labeling the reports as “fake news” and “propaganda” on social media. He characterized the departing employees as “Dem political holdovers who refused to return to the office,” suggesting political motivations rather than ethical concerns drove their decisions.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt reinforced Musk’s position, downplaying the significance of the resignations. She emphasized President Trump’s unwavering commitment to government efficiency and reducing wasteful spending across federal agencies.

DOGE’s Controversial Mission

DOGE has faced multiple legal challenges since its inception, with lawsuits aimed at restricting its operations and scope. These legal obstacles have complicated the agency’s efforts to implement efficiency measures across the federal government.

Musk previously generated controversy by requiring government workers to list their accomplishments or face potential termination, a move critics viewed as heavy-handed. Reports indicate that DOGE’s efficiency measures could ultimately affect nearly 100,000 federal employees through various workforce reduction strategies, including approximately 20,000 firings and layoffs, with another 75,000 potentially accepting deferred resignations.

Harrison Fields, White House principal deputy press secretary, criticized media coverage of the resignations, claiming it misrepresented the administration’s goals. He reaffirmed that President Trump’s mission to eliminate government inefficiencies would continue despite the resistance from certain quarters of the civil service.
