Satan wants to systematically destroy the Jewish people, in a doomed attempt to derail God’s ultimate plan for redemption. That’s why we believe we are seeing more and more hatred towards Jewish people around the world, but especially here in North America.

Hope as an Evening Anchor - Your Nightly Prayer

Your Nightly Prayer

Hope as an Evening Anchor
Your Nightly Prayer for May 27, 2025
by Rachel Wojo

TONIGHT'S SCRIPTURE

We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain, where our forerunner, Jesus, has entered on our behalf. Hebrews 6:19-20

SOMETHING TO PONDER

Have you ever watched a ship in stormy waters? The waves crash against it, the wind howls around it, yet it remains steady because of the anchor.

When properly secured, that anchor keeps the vessel from drifting into dangerous waters or being thrown against the rocks.

That's the image the writer of Hebrews gives us in tonight's scripture. Our hope in Christ isn't just a vague feeling or wishful thinking. It's an anchor for our souls—something firm and secure that holds us steady when everything else is in chaos.

What makes this anchor so remarkable is where it's secured. The passage tells us it "enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain." In the Old Testament, the inner sanctuary was where God's presence dwelt. Only the high priest could enter once a year. But now, because of Jesus, our hope is anchored directly in God's presence.

About a year ago, my dishwasher kept randomly flooding the kitchen. Water everywhere. Towels soaked. One night, it was already 10:30 PM, and I had a presentation to finish for the next morning. As I mopped up water and threw in yet another load of towels, I could feel my anxiety rising. My to-do list already felt impossible.

But as silly as it might sound, in that moment of overwhelm, I started to pray. Not eloquent prayers, but simple ones. "Lord, help me. This is too much right now. I need You."

Nothing dramatic happened. The water didn't magically disappear. I still had a mess to clean up and a presentation to finish. But something shifted inside me. The circumstances hadn't changed, but I felt steadied. Praying connected me to my anchor.

That's the beauty of prayer. We don't just take our requests to God; prayer connects us to the Anchor of Hope.

You might be facing much bigger storms tonight. Maybe it's a health diagnosis that came out of nowhere or a relationship that feels like it's slipping through your fingers. Perhaps financial pressure that keeps you checking your account balance multiple times a day. I've been there, Friend.

Whatever waves are crashing against your life right now, remember that your hope in Christ isn't wishful thinking. It's an anchor secured in the very presence of God, and it will hold firm through the darkest night.

YOUR NIGHTLY PRAYER

Heavenly Father,
As the day closes and night surrounds me, I'm grateful that you are my soul's anchor. You see the storms I'm facing, the uncertainty, and the fear. There are questions that have no easy answers. Sometimes these waves feel overwhelming and threaten to pull me under.
Thank you, my hope isn't based on my strength but on your unchanging character and promises. I'm anchored to Your faithfulness, Your love, and Your wisdom. Even when I can't see what tomorrow holds, you've already gone before me. As I lie down to sleep, I entrust myself completely to Your care. The anchor holds, and morning will come.
In Jesus' name, Amen.

THREE THINGS TO MEDITATE UPON

1. A Moment of Calm: Recall a recent time when you felt completely overwhelmed, but then experienced an unexpected sense of peace.  Remember how that moment felt—that was your anchor holding you steady.

2. A Promise That Steadied You: Think of a Bible verse or promise from God that has carried you through a difficult season. Maybe you wrote it on a sticky note, set it as your phone background, or simply repeated it to yourself. Let that same promise comfort you again tonight.

3. A Hand That Held You: Remember someone God placed in your life who steadied you when you felt like you were sinking.

As you drift off to sleep, remember this: The storms may come and go, but the anchor of hope secured in Christ will never fail. Your soul is held by hands that created the universe and counted the stars. Rest well in that unshakable truth.
