South Carolina Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham called former President Barack Obama’s reasons for pulling U.S. troop out of Iraq in 2011 “a bunch of bullshit” during an interview on CNN’s “State of the Union,” early Sunday morning.
The segment began with the shows host Dana Bash asking the Senator “If ISIS reconstitutes itself after the U.S. leaves, does President Trump bear responsibility?”
Graham then began to respond, “Number one, everything we’re dealing with today falls on Obama’s watch.  He is the one who withdrew from Iraq in 2011.”
He was quickly interrupted by Bash making the claim in question form “that he did it because there was the forces agreement in Iraq, right?”
Senator Graham quickly fired back saying, “No. That’s a bunch of bullshit. Pardon my French. That’s an absolute lie. Obama wanted to get to zero. He got to zero. In 2011 I said I hope the president is right, but I fear this decision will come back to haunt us.”  He also stated,  “ISIS came about as a result to withdrawal from Iraq.”
Graham of late has shown strong support for President Trump on an array of issues including the government shutdown over border wall funding, tweeting on December 21st, that “It’s right to fight for wall funding. The House-passed bill is reasonable. Let’s Dig in!”
Adding more weight to Grahams comments on former President Obama’s troop pullout of Iraq, he has proven on several occasions he is not a blind supporter of the President’s policies. Graham has been know to voice his opinions, even if they may be critical of his GOP ally.
Graham went on to say, “on October 21st, 2011 I said, I hope the President is right and I’m wrong, but I fear this decision will come back to haunt us ISIS came about from our withdrawal from Iraq, the caliphate was established in Syria, while Obama sat on the sidelines.”
