Keeping Her Story Alive

Elderly Holocaust survivor looking out of her window
This story is difficult to hear, Carl — but it’s important that stories like Fredirika’s are never forgotten.

This is Fredirika, a 93-year-old survivor of Auschwitz. In 1944, Fredirika and her family were captured and forced onto a livestock train with thousands of other Jews.

When they arrived in Auschwitz, half of her family were told to exit “left” off the train to “shower”… that’s the last time she ever saw them.

Fredirika and her remaining siblings were told to exit “right” off the train toward the work camp. Prisoners survived on one loaf of bread for every five people. Fredirika withered down to 88 lbs.

It’s a miracle she made it out alive.

After surviving the horrors of Auschwitz, it breaks my heart that Fredirika is now sick and going hungry once again — having to cut corners just to get by.

When we arrived, she had nearly nothing to eat in her kitchen.

Carl, what would she do without you?

Survivors like Fredirika are crying out like King David: “Do not cast me away when I am old; do not forsake me when my strength is gone” (Psalm 71:9).

We only have a few more years left with survivors like Fredirika. We must do everything we can to help them live out their finals days, months, and years in dignity.
