Dear Carl,
It was God’s design from the beginning. Before He even created the nation of Israel—through Isaac’s miracle birth—He told Abraham, “I will bless those who bless you.” When God spoke those words, it put a spiritual law into place that non-Jews who assisted and blessed the Jewish people would be blessed.
God always intended for you and me to bless Israel. That is why the Hebrew prophets saw a day when the gentiles would assist the sons and daughters of Israel to return to their homeland. Isaiah said, speaking of the gentiles, “They shall bring your sons in their arms, and your daughters shall be carried on their shoulders.” Jeremiah 16:14–16 says God will send fisherman and hunters to find His people to draw them back to their land.
Through the ministry of the ICEJ you have assisted over 160,000 Jews in making their way home to Israel. That is God’s design—He is using you to be the conduit of His love and blessing for His people. Through you He is bringing His children home.
The Role of Christians in the Restoration of Zion
The story of the restoration of Israel is a story that may not have happened had it not been for the involvement of some key Christians. The global movement we have today of millions of Christians who support Israel did not exist when God used these individuals to turn the tide of history.
The first story is that of Rev. William Hechler, who had befriended Theodore Herzl, the father of the Zionist movement. Herzl saw the need for a Jewish state but needed political contacts to make it happen. Rev. Hechler was in the British Foreign Service, and he introduced Herzl to major leaders. At the First Zionist Congress in 1897, Herzl used the term “Christian Zionist” when referring to Rev. Hechler and a handful of other Christian leaders attending the Congress.
The other story is that of Lord Balfour. He was a devout Christian and part of the stream of Restorationist Christians who believed in the future restoration of the Jewish people to their homeland. He wrote the famous Balfour Declaration stating Great Britain’s support for the establishment of a Jewish state in the area known as Palestine. That document became the legal basis for the founding of the State.
There are many other stories of individual Christian leaders who not only prayed for and supported the restoration of Israel but helped it come about. Of course, all glory goes to God, but He does use man to carry out His will. I hope you enjoy the articles in this month’s Word From Jerusalem magazine about the gentile role in the restoration of Israel and modern Aliyah.
Your Partnership Is Part of God’s Design
You are part of God’s design! He wanted the Jewish people to have your prayers and support, so He put into place a spiritual law of blessing in return. I pray that you see the hand of God on your life and in your family because of your obedience to bless His people.
Through the ICEJ you bless the people of Israel in so many ways. We not only help bring the Jewish people home to Israel but assist with their absorption. We help the needy and vulnerable with social assistance, place bomb shelters to bring security to thousands, and house Holocaust Survivors in our Haifa Home—and that is just part of our ministry.
We are also educating the Christian world about Israel and advocating for the Jewish State in nations all around the globe. Each year the Feast of Tabernacles has attendees from over 80 countries who then go back home as advocates for Israel.
Your financial support this month will enable us to do all of this and more—all in your name, representing your love and support. Please send your very best gift this month, and let us know about your commitment to partnership in 2023. This month’s magazine explains our various partnership levels. We can only do what we do because of your financial support, so please let us know of your commitment today.
