Californians can say goodbye to Walgreens thanks to Gavin Newsom’s latest decision

Walgreens is one of the biggest drugstore chains in the country, but it decided to try and take both sides on a hot-button political issue in recent months.
Now it looks like this attempt could be a disaster for Walgreens.
And Californians are likely going to have to say goodbye to the drugstore chain forever thanks to Gavin Newsom’s latest decision. The fight over access to deadly chemical abortion medications is heating up.
And Walgreens tried to straddled the fence and instead upset both sides, especially the radical pro-abortion fanatics.
Newsom ends multi-million-dollar contract
Recently, Walgreens announced they would be selling abortion pills to customers through the mail, even though the drug is rife with controversy.
The decision to sell the drugs drew the attention of 20 Republican Attorneys General, who sent a letter to the drugstore chain expressing their concerns about the selling of the abortion drug in states where it is illegal. In the letter, the Attorneys General from states like Georgia, Florida, Missouri, and others noted the dangers of chemical abortions and how they can cause serious health issues for women.
Since abortion pills are usually taken at home, they can leave women in danger without access to proper medical care or supervision.
Last week, Walgreens decided it would no longer distribute these drugs in approximately 21 states after the Republican officials threatened litigation.
So progressive pro-abortion California Governor Gavin Newsom has decided that he’ll end a $54 million contract with Walgreens which allows the company to produce “specialty pharmacy prescription drugs.”These “specialty” drugs were mostly used in California’s correctional facilities, but Newsom is not renewing the contract which is set to expire in May.
Of course, Newsom supports abortion for any reason, even after birth.
Gavin Newsom shows his ignorance of the issue
And he said that his state “will leverage our market power to defend the right to choose.”
He also accused Walgreens of caving to “extremists” while cutting off “critical access to reproductive care and freedom.”
Before the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, Newsom declared that California would be a “sanctuary state” for anyone seeking an abortion.
On Monday, Newsom tweeted, “California won’t be doing business with @walgreens – or any company that cowers to the extremists and puts women’s lives at risk. We’re done.”
As of the date of publication, Walgreens had declined to comment in response to the tweet.
Meanwhile, there is little doubt that many people in California depend on having access to the drugstore chain to get a variety of critical medications.
But since the state’s Governor has decided it will no longer do business with the company, it could leave some people in dire straits.
And Newsom seems to be ignoring the fact that Walgreens is still selling the abortion drug in places like California.
They only agreed to not sell it in states where it is illegal to do so, or there are strict restrictions on the drug.
Once again, Gavin Newsom shows his ignorance on this issue.
The abortion pill debate continues
Newsom’s decision comes at a time when chemical abortion pills account for over half of all procedures in the United States.
In Texas, a judge is considering issuing a ban on a two-drug abortion regimen called Mifepristone.
Walgreens said they “intend to be a certified pharmacy and will distribute Mifepristone only in those jurisdictions where it is legal and operationally feasible.”
As it stands, California is now “reviewing all relationships between Walgreens and the state” according to Newsom spokesman Brandon Richards.
The Governor’s office also accused Walgreens of giving in to “right wing bullies.”
Perhaps if Walgreens hadn’t sold abortion pills in the first place, they wouldn’t be in this predicament today.
