Democrat Leader Threatens Foreign Leaders Working With Trump

In what is almost certainly a violation of the Logan Act, Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) threatened foreign leaders with retaliation if they dare to work with President Donald Trump, declaring that the Democrats would not “look kindly” on anyone who cooperated with the president after they return to power.

Raskin’s comments are obviously a violation of the Logan Act, as he is indirectly communicating to foreign governments to influence officials to undermine the Trump administration’s foreign policy.

The Logan Act, or 18 U.S. Code § 953, states: “Any citizen of the United States, wherever he may be, who, without authority of the United States, directly or indirectly commences or carries on any correspondence or intercourse with any foreign government or any officer or agent thereof, with intent to influence the measures or conduct of any foreign government or of any officer or agent thereof, in relation to any disputes or controversies with the United States, or to defeat the measures of the United States, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than three years, or both.”

Raskin made the remarks during an appearance on the podcast, “Pod Save America,” while speaking with host Tommy Vietor, a former Obama aide, about the deportation of illegal alien MS-13 gang member Kilmar Abrego Garcia. Democrats have become obsessed with Abrego Garcia’s case in recent weeks, falsely claiming that he is a “Maryland man” who was “mistakenly deported,” even though he is confirmed to be an illegal alien, two courts determined him to be an MS-13 member, and the Trump administration sent him back to his home country of El Salvador. Democrats are also outraged that Abrego Garcia was sent to El Salvador’s Terrorism Confinement Center (CECOT) mega prison, blaming the Trump administration even though it was El Salvador that chose to lock him up, as being a gang member is illegal there.

The discussion began with Vietor claiming that a “Latin America policy expert” had told him that “Democrats should threaten to take action against any foreign government that participates in the extraordinary rendition of American citizens” — even though none of the people being deported and jailed are American citizens. Vietor argued that this retaliation could include cutting off future foreign aid and prosecuting foreign officials.

Raskin, the ranking member of the House Judiciary Committee, told Vietor that he liked the idea — claiming that it would be a “complement to something that we need to be doing right now, which is engaging in far more work of transnational democratic solidarity with the democratic governments and the democratic movements and peoples and parties of the world to try to prevent the spread of the lawlessness and the fascist chaos that’s been unleashed against us.”

“But implicit in it should be the idea that if and when we come back to power — and we will — we are not going to look kindly upon people who facilitated … authoritarianism in our country. That’s an assault on our Constitution and on our people,” Raskin added.

Raskin’s shocking remarks prompted backlash on social media, with popular X user Gunther Eagleman arguing that his comments are treasonous.

Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) declared that Democrats “aren’t coming into power any time soon if things continue as they are,” and noting that this is “the only silver lining in their chaos and lunacy.”

“What is Jamie even attempting to say here? That if you lower tariffs and do deals with America he will come after you? That JAMIE RASKIN, will come after you? What idiocy,” Matt Van Swol wrote.

Meanwhile, others expressed disappointment that there will likely be no consequences for Raskin’s treasonous behavior, despite there being numerous laws on the books that he clearly violated.
