The Queen Took Part in ‘Exorcism’ to Banish Ghost of Diana from Historic Estate

Queen Elizabeth II once took part in an exorcism at her beloved Sandringham Estate after royal staff claimed the historic home was haunted—possibly by none other than the spirit of Princess Diana.
According to royal insiders, eerie happenings in the room where King George VI died in 1952 had left palace staff shaken. Strange sensations, unexplained noises, and a “restless presence” were enough to prompt action—and it wasn’t your average blessing.
Royal author Robert Hardman recently revisited the bizarre tale, which was first shared in 2000 by biographer Kenneth Rose. He confirmed that what unfolded behind palace doors was far from a Hollywood-style ghost busting.
“It wasn’t a conventional exorcism,” Hardman explained. “There were no dramatic shoutings or demons. But there was a definite belief that something in that room was unsettled.”
While the spirit was never officially identified, whispers swirled that it might have been the ghost of Princess Diana, who had tragically died just a few years prior. The fact that the ghostly activity occurred in the very room where the Queen’s father died only added to the mystery.
In an unusual show of solidarity, Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, and Lady-in-Waiting Prue Penn all reportedly attended the cleansing ritual. The service involved a parson, Holy Communion, and targeted prayers meant to ease the lingering energy—possibly that of George VI, but possibly something else entirely.
The Queen, known for her deep Christian faith but not for superstition, raised eyebrows by taking part. “She did not believe in wild theories,” said Hardman, “but she had a strong sense of the spiritual, as does King Charles.”
The royal family’s encounters with the paranormal don’t end there.
Reports claim King Charles himself has seen the ghost of Queen Elizabeth I in Windsor Castle’s library—an apparition also witnessed multiple times by his grandfather, George VI, before the outbreak of World War II.
Paranormal historian Richard Felix, speaking in The King of UFOs documentary, claimed, “All of their properties have ghosts in them, and they know it and have witnessed it.”
Even Prince William and Kate Middleton reportedly have a resident ghost at their country home, Anmer Hall. That spirit? A Catholic priest who was supposedly hanged, drawn, and quartered for high treason.
As for whether the royal exorcism worked, that remains a royal mystery. But it’s clear the British monarchy has had more than just political ghosts to contend with.
