Why Aren’t More People Getting Saved? (by Melody Green)

Why Aren’t More People Getting Saved? (by Melody Green)

Eight years ago, today, Melody Green posted an excellent article that answered the question that has been troubling my heart for quite some time: Why Aren’t More People Getting Saved? Take a look and see if it answers any of your questions and possibly, challenges you to change your attitude and activities:
Something has really been bothering me. How come so many sinners liked Jesus — but they don’t like us very much. They liked to hang out with Him. Jesus got invited to their homes for dinner, to their parties . . . people even hung in trees just to get a glimpse of Him — and Jesus wasn’t even good looking!
Well, you might say, “But Jesus was God and we’re not! He was full of charisma and anointing.” True. But I think it’s more than that.
Nobody preached a harder message than Jesus. Remember His eat my flesh drink my blood comments? And yet, Jesus had something we are lacking. Something we could have if we wanted — but many of us don’t. Not really. I think it’s called something like a compelling, compassionate love for people.
We might say we love people, but do we really? Do we really have compassion for the lost like Jesus did?
After 17 years of living in the “Bible Belt” of Texas, I moved back to California. I had been asking God for more of His heart for the lost, and California was the perfect place to go. Not that there aren’t at lot of believers in California, but it’s also full of people who seem proud to distance themselves from the church and from Christians. Some wear it like a badge of honor.
Yeah, we have met some of them, haven’t we?
After being in California for awhile, and striking up conversations with lots of random people, I began to remember how I felt before I met Jesus. I didn’t like Christians either. They appeared to be narrow minded, judgmental, and worst of all, lacking in true compassion. Their answers to life seemed trite and unrealistic. Their theology, prehistoric. Their pie in the sky philosophy quite frankly turned me off. In the days when I was looking for “the truth” I was positive Christians didn’t have it.
Things haven’t changed much since then in the minds of unbelievers. The world still thinks we are out of step with the times. Obviously, we do march to a different drummer — which is for the most part, a very good thing. But some of our ideas and attitudes actually push people away from the Lord — instead of drawing them in.
I want to share one area I feel we can improve in when it comes to reaching the people around us. Jesus called us to be fishers of men; but it seems we often forget how fishing works, so I’m going to lay out a quick refresher course.
First you study the kind of fish you want to catch, figure out it’s favorite thing to eat, and get bait that’s hard to resist. Then you put floaters or sinkers on your line depending on what level it feeds at. Then you cast in your line and wait patiently to feel a nibble—and when you do, at the right moment you “set the hook.” Then you have to reel your fish in very carefully. Often there’s a big tug of war — two feet forward one foot back, two feet forward, one foot back. Big fish can take hours to reel in. Then when you’re within reach of your fish, you might scoop him into a net to be sure he doesn’t wiggle off the line. Even a caught fish can flop its way back into the water if you’re not careful. Then you put your fish into a bucket of water to keep him fresh . . . and after all that effort, through each stage, you finally get to clean your fish.
But what do we do with people? We forget the process. We are usually worrying about how to clean them up before they are even caught! We want people to stop smoking, stop doing drugs, stop wearing clothes we don’t like, dye their hair back from purple to brown, take the metal out of their faces, and generally clean up their act before — or shortly after — they have had an encounter with Jesus. We want a clean tidy church, clean tidy disciples, and clean tidy friends.
Those words have struck a cord with me. Our priorities are all screwed up. We need to search our hearts and check our priorities. Now maybe it was just me, but if Christians would have treated me the way Melody described, I would have jumped ship a long time ago. But fortunately, there were people who put up with my ignorance, my spiritual foolish theology, my youthful enthusiasm — and reached out to me in genuine love.
I don’t know how they did it, but they were able to look beyond my immaturity and looked at my heart. A heart that was hungry for God. I got loved into the kingdom by real flesh and blood people who showed me, in practical ways, how much they cared about me. I gave my heart to Jesus because I could see Him in people who said they loved Him. I wanted to be like those people. I wanted to know the God they knew.
After Jesus really got a hold of my heart, sure I changed some things… but it took awhile. Jesus had to fully win my heart before I was willing to make big changes for Him. But sometimes we expect people to make those changes before they are fully won. We want them to “prove” they love Jesus before they are fully convinced.
One of our problems is, as Melody described, we want to “clean our fish before we get them into the bucket. And then we wonder why they wiggle off the hook!” We are turning them off of the Gospel because we are expecting too much from them. Instead of seeking our Lord’s face, they become angry and runaway. Maybe they have grasped a basic principle we have forgotten. They may instinctively know that there really is a God somewhere, but does he care about their heart, or their hair color? Does this God see their true value even when they are a mess on the outside? Frankly, that is the kind of God this generation is looking for. So what kind of God are we giving them? Well, Melody goes on:
We need to remember that Jesus put up with all kinds of stuff — even from His own disciples. Mistakes. Arguments. Unbelief. Jealousy. I bet those guys didn’t smell very good either. But Jesus loved them—and they knew it. And they followed Him at the cost of their own lives.
We forget how spiritually hungry the lost really are. We forget that they pray and cry out for help to a God they don’t know. We forget how seekers think and feel. We tend to look at the outside of the cup while Jesus looks deep into the heart. We get annoyed and judgmental when people show up to church looking like they’re going to a party — instead of rejoicing that they came to hear about God at all.
We don’t like hearing any of this, but we need to ask again and again, “Why aren’t more people getting saved?”
Maybe the walls around the churches are as high as the walls around our hearts. Perhaps the walls are so high we can’t see beyond our own little world, into the hearts and hurts of people in our communities, our schools, our work places — and yes, literally — our streets. God hears their cries. Do you? ~Melody Green 2/22/2007
I admit that I have lost my vision, my passion for reaching the lost. I am ashamed to admit it, but I need to get it out in the open. For years my wife and I took every opportunity to share the message of Christ. We would minister to the drunks in the park or the folks we worked with. But when the kids came and the bills began to overwhelm us, that passion faded away. It is a sad thing to say, but it is true. Frankly, we learned that it is easier to ignore them because if we don’t it will cost us something. It is safer to judge them than to demonstrate compassion. Look, you probably feel the same way, at least I am willing to be honest about it and seek forgiveness and healing.
The problem with casting judgment, it distances us from people — which means we don’t have to give them any part of ourselves. Would you agree to that? But compassion draws them to us — which means we need to give them some of our time and our energy and our love.

Jordan’s King shows real leadership on ISIS.

Jordan’s King shows real leadership on ISIS. Why will a Muslim monarch say our enemy is Radical Islam but President Obama won’t? Also: The importance of considering the apocalyptic goals of ISIS. Here’s my interview on Fox News.

In Uncategorized on February 22, 2015 at 11:05 pm
Joel-FoxJordanShannon(Nashville, Tennessee) — Why is that President Obama absolutely refuses to define our enemy in the Middle East as “Radical Islam,” yet Muslim leaders like Jordan’s King Abdullah II very honestly and publicly state this fight is, in fact, a showdown with violent Muslims and that we must take decisive action to fight these jihadists theologically as well as militarily?
Why is it, too, that so few in Washington are focused on understanding the apocalyptic goals of ISIS and their End of Days mindset? To miss this is to miss much of what motivates the Islamic State.
Jordan’s Muslim monarch is showing real leadership in the war on ISIS. He gets their goals, and gets the stakes, as I explained on Fox News on Sunday. (Egypt’s President el-Sisi is showing impressive leadership, too, as I wrote about recently). Unfortunately, President Obama does not appear to be listening to such men.
Consider the headlines of just the past few days:
The President is making a serious mistake. We cannot defeat an enemy we refuse to define.
We should be grateful that King Abdullah II and President el-Sisi are showing bold leadership in the fight against ISIS. They deserve America’s support.
I discussed these issues on Fox with anchor Shannon Bream. Here is the video. Here is the transcript.
Bream: After that brutal killing of the captured Jordanian pilot — carefully scripted, filmed and broadcast to the world — King Abdullah retaliated and called the battle against ISIS the “third world war.” Joel Rosenberg is author of a new book, The Third Target. He says King Abdullah fully understands he that is in a winner-take-all showdown with ISIS. Joel joins us now live. Joel, good to see you today.
Rosenberg: Good to see you, as well. Thank you, Shannon.
Bream: Now, you are very familiar — having lived and worked in that region quite a bit — what do you make of the response we saw from the Jordanians, and where do you think we go from here? Do you think those you live and breathe and work in that region have a different understanding than we do here in the U.S.?
Rosenberg: Well, the contrast between President Obama’s response to Americans being beheaded and King Abdullah’s response is striking. You know, President Obama was with King Abdullah the day the video was released of the Jordanian pilot being burned alive. The King was not on the President’s schedule that day he was in Washington. And the President only added him in because of that murder, and they only spent 20 minutes together. But what did the King do? He went right back. He suited up in fatigues. He started bombing ISIS, and he hanged two ISIS people that had been captured. He understands this is a war. And he understands that he is at the center of it. And it’s interesting that in that 60 Minutes interview you just referenced — when he called it a “third world war” — he said it’s a war “inside Islam.” President Obama is deeply conflicted over whether this is a battle that has anything to do with Islam. But the King — who is a descendant of Muhammad — knows it’s a battle inside Islam, and against Radical Islam.
Bream: I don’t want to get too deep into the theological weeds, but you’ve written a number of books about this. And your book on the so-called “Twelfth Imam” is about these End Times prophecies that certain factions of Islam — not the majority of Muslims out there — but there are certain factions who adhere to a very radical, specific End Times theology, and that ISIS is sort of in the business of, they want to launch an Armageddon-type, end of the world situation. They think it’s what they need in prophecy to bring about their end goals. Do you think that we get that? Do you think that our administration gets that?
Rosenberg: No, and that’s because the President is saying from the top and throughout the administration that this isn’t an Islamic problem. You’re right that the vast majority of Muslims don’t, you know  — this is not them — they’re not cutting off people’s heads and they never will. But the Radicals are being driven by their interpretation of Islam. And it’s important — this is what motivates them. This is why it’s not a jobs issue. It’s not a poverty issue. It’s a Radical Islamic theology issue, and an eschatology issue. They do want to set up a caliphate — an Islamic kingdom — which is really an End Times theology in their view. They believe it will hasten the End of Days. My new novel, The Third Target, is really about ISIS being a threat to Israel, the United States, and Jordan. What’s interesting is that it’s been out five weeks now on the best-seller lists, but it really takes us into this threat that is actually not fiction right now. This is very real.
Bream: Yes. I was one eschatology class away from a theology minor in college, but I find that there’s so much that I’m learning by reading about what these specific factions believe. And for those who want to get some education on this, your books are a great way of doing that — some fiction, some non-fiction — but a great way of getting a better understanding of why some decisions are made, and who the players are and what their interests are in these games that are — not games, I mean the end game of what they hoped to bring about.
    Rosenberg: Right, right.
Bream: I would recommend those [books] as a very entertaining but very educational way to get up-to-speed on some of these issues. Joel, always good to see you. Thank you so much. Come back soon.
Rosenberg: Thank you. I appreciate it.

Are you ready for cricket-flour energy bars and “steaks” constructed from strips of lab-grown animal muscle fibers?
Some of us may not have a choice. Feeding the rapidly expanding world population will require 470 million tons of annual meat production by 2050, an increase of more than 200 million tons from current annual levels, according to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
Replacing and/or supplementing traditional animal protein with alternatives that require drastically lower levels of water, feed, energy, and land is not only more sustainable but may result in healthier proteins too, according to the latest series of interviews from the Institute of Food Technologists (IFT) “FutureFood 2050” publishing initiative.
FutureFood 2050 explores how increasingly sophisticated science and technology will help feed the world’s projected 9 billion-plus people in 2050.
    (credit: Beyond Meat)
Pioneering protein researchers talked to FutureFood 2050 this month about a wide array of possible technology-based innovations, including:
    • Ethan Brown: Founder of California-based Beyond Meat, which is processing plant proteins to chemically re-create the structure of meat
    • Daniel Imrie-Situnayake: CEO of Tiny Farms, a startup dedicated to developing technology for industrial-scale insect farming
    • Stephanie Mittermaier: German food technology researcher who sees big potential for protein from sweet blue lupine seeds as an alternative to soy protein
    • Mark Post: Dutch physiologist behind the world’s first in vitro burger made from meat grown in a lab, who wants to transform how meat is produced
    • Harman Singh Johar: Entrepreneurial young entomologist who believes insect protein could become a near-perfect famine relief product
Through 2015, FutureFood 2050 will release 75 interviews with “the world’s most impactful leaders” in food and science. This year, FutureFood 2050 will also debut a documentary film exploring how the science of food will contribute solutions to feeding the world.

  • Mysterious metal globe 'may be proof aliens are watching us and created life on Earth'

Balloons sent into the stratosphere came back with the object, no bigger than a human hair, which has a biological "gooey" substance oozing from it

    University of Buckingham/Getty Space Seed
Space seed: Microscopic particle could point to existence of intelligent extra-terrestrial life
Scientists in the UK say this microscopic metal globe could be proof that aliens are watching us.
Balloons sent 27km into the stratosphere to collect debris came back with the object, no bigger than the width of a human hair.
Professor Milton Wainwright, leader of the joint study by the University of Buckingham Centre for Astrobiology and University of Sheffield, said the structure is made from titanium and vanadium metals and has a biological "gooey" substance oozing from it.
Scientists believe it could contain genetic material used to propagate alien life on Earth.
“It is a ball about the width of a human hair, which has filamentous life on the outside and a gooey biological material oozing from its centre,” he told the Daily Express website.
"We were stunned when X-ray analysis showed that the sphere is made up mainly of titanium, with a trace of vanadium.
“One theory is it was sent to Earth by some unknown civilisation in order to continue seeding the planet with life.
    Google University of Buckingham
    Research: University of Buckingham

"This seeming piece of science fiction, called 'directed panspermia', would probably not be taken seriously by any scientist were it not for the fact that it was very seriously suggested by the Nobel Prize winner of DNA fame, Sir Francis Crick.
“Unless of course we can find details of the civilisation that is supposed to have sent it, in this respect it is probably an unprovable theory.”
It bears an eerie similarity to HG Wells' 1898 novel War of the Worlds, which describes a meteor sent to Earth to initiate a Martian invasion.

The tiny sphere landed on one of the sampler balloons after a long fall - as proven by an impact crater likened to that of a meteor striking Earth.
“On hitting the stratosphere sampler the sphere made an impact crater, a minute version of the huge impact crater on Earth caused by the asteroid said to have killed off the dinosaurs," said Prof. Wainwright.
“This impact crater proves that the sphere was incoming to Earth from space, an organism coming from Earth would not be travelling fast enough when it fell back to Earth to cause such damage.
“This seems never before to have been found on Earth.”

He continued: “For the moment, we are content to say that the life-containing titanium sphere came from space, possibly from a comet.
“NASA is currently sending a balloon into the stratosphere to look for life.
“Hopefully they will get the same results as we have, whether or not they acknowledge what the team have found, or claim the discovery for themselves remains to be seen.”

What would you do if you discovered an alien?

If the globe was sent here, it would prove the theory that intelligent and civilised extra-terrestrial creatures are keeping tabs on our planet.
This year Professor Wainwright and his team discovered a 'ghost particle' which they believe points to the existence of extra-terrestrial life.
    Sheffield University Ghost Particle
    Exciting discovery: Ghost particle

Resembling a wisp of smoke, he speculated that it was a "living balloon" in a "deflated" state that once carried alien organisms.
Scientists in the UK and Japan are currently launching the Institute for the Study of Panspermia and Astroeconomics, with the aim of proving life on this planet has its origins in space.
Professor Wickramasinghe, director for research at the Buckingham Center for Astrobiology, believes biological material such as bacteria is constantly falling to Earth.
He said: “Mainstream science and institutions have fought against theories which expound these beliefs but now evidence from meteorites, from samples of bacteria from space and from space observation is making resistance more difficult.
“Proving that the Earth is in a constant exchange of matter with the larger cosmos would have implications not only in terms of our identity, but could also give us insight into alien viruses which may be important for our group identity, evolution and survival itself.”

    vaccine
Despite its notoriety for being one of the least free states in America, California does still have some lingering freedoms in certain regards. Ever since California mandated that all teachers and students be vaccinated against polio in 1961, the state made sure to allow certain exemptions. In fact, California has some of the best vaccine exemption laws. Residents living there are allowed to keep their children vaccine free, for either religious or personal reasons; a status which it shares with 19 other states.
But unfortunately, in California, no individual right can remain untouched forever. After the measles outbreak in Disneyland, the busybody freak show is out in full force, and they want to cull as many vaccination exemptions as they can.
Senate Bill 277 does not specifically address the religious exemption. But if passed as now drafted, the bill would end all “personal belief exemptions,” including religious exemptions, said Sen. Richard Pan, a Sacramento Democrat and pediatrician who co-authored the bill with Sen. Ben Allen, D-Redondo Beach.
“There is no religious exemption in the statute,” Pan told this newspaper Thursday. But he indicated that might change as the debate over the legislation plays out over the next several months. “I’m certainly open to the discussion about the necessity and the nature of any proposed religious exemption.”
That could come through “the legislative process or the governor himself, if he wishes to be engaged early on,” Pan said. “It’s up to him.”
When Pan, then an assemblyman, carried a bill in 2012 aimed at tightening vaccine policy, Gov. Jerry Brown signed it. But he directed state health officials to maintain the ease of religious exemptions.
Asked if Brown believes that the issue of religious exemptions needs to be revisited, Jim Evans, a spokesman for the governor, would only say that “the governor believes that vaccinations are profoundly important and a major public health benefit and any bill that reaches his desk will be closely considered.”
Sometimes it’s just painful to hear these people discussing the destruction of our rights so casually, but there it is. The idea that our freedoms are at the whims of legislators like these is just unbelievable, but I guess that’s par for the course in California. The politicians there (as well as plenty of the residents) have zero respect for individual freedom, and it’s frightening to think that a state like that holds so much influence over the rest of the country.
And the debate over vaccines themselves is hardly relevant. Even if they worked perfectly, and didn’t cause autism, and truly helped build herd immunity, this is still highly unethical. Everyone should have the right to choose what they put into their bodies, and every parent should have a say in how they raise their children.
Fortunately not everyone is going along with this, and contrary to popular belief, California isn’t brimming with collectivist sheep as far as the eye can see. Those people just happen to be a majority that forces their beliefs down the throats of everyone else.
Keith Howe, 59, a San Jose chiropractor, has long opposed efforts to impose vaccinations requirements. He said when Pan introduced his legislation in 2012, “I sent him a scathing letter saying this is not Communist China and he is not Mao Zedong. He is violating the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.”
My sentiments exactly. Delivered by The Daily Sheeple
