Adam Schiff has a ‘lot of issues’ in mortgage fraud case against him, prosecutor says

U.S. Sen. Adam Schiff (D-CA) is facing a “lot of issues” in the mortgage fraud allegations recently brought against him.

That’s according to a former federal prosecutor who discussed the accusations about the California Democrat claiming his Maryland home as a primary residence. A memo from the Federal National Mortgage Association, known as Fannie Mae, claimed Schiff “engaged in a sustained pattern of possible occupancy misrepresentation on 5 Fannie Mae loans,” according to the Washington Post.

The Federal Housing Finance Agency has reportedly requested an investigation and sent a criminal referral to the Justice Department. Schiff, who led impeachment proceedings against President Donald Trump when he was a House member, has denied any wrongdoing.

Fox News host Laura Ingraham unpacked the contents of the referral submitted to the DOJ by Housing Director Bill Pulte. She discussed the development with former federal prosecutor Jonathan Fahey.

“He’s got a lot of issues because it seems, however this breaks down, it looks like he’s saying one thing here, one thing there. He can’t be a resident of both places,” Fahey said on “The Ingraham Angle” as he took a closer look at Schiff’s residences in California and Maryland.

“It’s either he was lying in California or lying in Maryland to get more favorable loan terms,” Fahey continued. “The irony is so rich here…with Russia gate, the first impeachment, and now this. It’s pretty funny.”

The former acting ICE director from the first Trump administration also noted that CNN had already been reporting on the Schiff issue back in 2023.

Trump blasted the senator as a “scam artist” in a Truth Social post on Tuesday.

“Adam Schiff said that his primary residence was in MARYLAND to get a cheaper mortgage and rip off America, when he must LIVE in CALIFORNIA because he was a Congressman from CALIFORNIA. I always knew Adam Schiff was a Crook,” the president wrote.

“The FRAUD began with the refinance of his Maryland property on February 6, 2009, and continued through multiple transactions until the Maryland property was correctly designated as a second home on October 13, 2020,” he added, concluding that Schiff must be “brought to justice.”

The Democrat senator denied allegations and fired back at Trump.

“Since I led his first impeachment, Trump has repeatedly called for me to be arrested for treason. So in a way, I guess this is a bit of a letdown. And this baseless attempt at political retribution won’t stop me from holding him accountable. Not by a long shot,” he wrote in a post on X.
