WHY INTERNATIONAL FARHUD DAY STYMIES INVENTED PALESTINIAN HISTORY

Remembering the movement to exterminate the Jews of the Middle East.

5
When International Farhud Day was proclaimed at a conference convened at the United Nations headquarters on June 1, 2015, its proponents wanted to achieve more than merely establish a commemoration of the ghastly 1941 Arab-Nazi pogrom in Baghdad that killed and injured hundreds of Iraqi Jews. Farhud means violent dispossession. The Farhud but the first bloody step along the tormented path to the ultimate expulsion of some 850,000 Jews from across the Arab world. That systematic expulsion ended centuries of Jewish existence and stature in those lands.
Jews had thrived in Iraq for 2,700 years, a thousand years before Mohammad. But all that came to end when the Mufti of Jerusalem, Haj Amin al-Husseini, led the broad Arab-Nazi alliance in the Holocaust that produced a military, economic, political, and ideological common cause with Hitler. Although Husseini spearheaded an international pro-Nazi, anti-Jewish Islamic movement from India to Central Europe to the Middle East, it was in Baghdad—a 1,000-kilometer drive from Jerusalem— that he launched his robust coordination with the Third Reich.
In 1941, Iraq still hosted Britain’s Anglo-Persian Oil Company, which controlled the region’s oil. Hitler wanted that oil to propel his invasion of Russia. The Arabs, led by Husseini, wanted the Jews out of Palestine and Europe’s persecuted Jews kept away from the Middle East. Indeed, Husseini persuasively argued to Hitler that Jews should not be expelled to Palestine but rather to “Poland,” where “they will be under active control.” Translation: send Jews to the concentration camps. Husseini had visited concentration camps. He had been hosted by architect of the genocide Heinrich Himmler, and the Mufti considered Shoah engineer Adolf Eichmann not only a great friend, but a “diamond” among men.
Nazi lust for oil and Arab hatred of Jews combined synergistically June 1–2, 1941 burning the Farhud into history. Arab soldiers, police, and hooligans, swearing allegiance to the Mufti and Hitler, bolstered by fascist coup plotters known as the Golden Square, ran wild in the streets, raping, shooting, burning, dismembering, and decapitating. Jewish blood flowed through those streets and their screams created echoes that have never faded.
The 1941 Farhud massacre, which was launched in tandem with an attempted takeover of the British oil fields and London’s airbase at Habbaniya, set the stage for the Mufti-Hitler summit and the establishment of three Islamic and Arab Waffen SS divisions in central Europe under Himmler’s direct sponsorship. After the State of Israel was established in 1948, Mufti adherents and devotees throughout the Arab world, working through the Arab League, openly and systematically expelled 850,000 Jews from Morocco to Lebanon. Penniless and stateless, many of those refugees were airlifted to Israel where they were absorbed and became almost half the families of Israel.
Remembering the tragic facts of the Farhud process will make it harder for the newly invented history to take root. After the Arabs rebranded themselves as “Palestinians” in May 1964 with the backing of the Soviet KGB, a new narrative began to come together. In part, it pretends that the Arabs of Ottoman and then British Palestine did not arrive in the Seventh Century during the Arab-Islamic Conquest, as history records. Their narrative now asserts that are actually descendants of the Canaanites and the Philistines. Palestine is named for the Philistines. After the Jews were expelled by the Romans in about 135-136 CE, the name of their nation was changed from Judea to Syria Palaestina. But in truth, the Israelites gave rise to the only true surviving Canaanites. The Philistines were Greek Island sea invaders defeated by Ramses III in about 1150 BCE and sequestered into the Gaza Pentapolis, not Arabs from the Arabian Peninsula who conquered in the seventh century CE.
Invented Palestinian history also asserts that present-day Israelis are almost entirely transplants from such alien regions as the Ukraine, Poland, Brooklyn, and Germany—or descendants thereof. Remembering the Farhud helps us understand that almost half the early Jewish families in newly declared Israel were not from across the sea, but rather from across the river, across the bridge, down the road, and plucked from the same culture.
What’s more, the fabricated Palestinian history laments that Palestine became just a consolation prize for the Holocaust—a tragedy that either never occurred or was a purely European misdeed for which Arabs are not responsible and in which they were not involved. Remembering the 1941 Farhud and the Arab-Nazi alliance that sparked it, locks in Arab involvement in the Holocaust as one of full partnership with the Third Reich. This Nazi-Arab alliance thrived, complete with tens of thousands of Islamic and Arab volunteers arduously fighting in the trenches, coordinating diplomatic and strategic affairs through the Arab Higher Committee, broadcasting nightly incendiary hate messages beginning with words “Oh Muslims,” and undertaking all things calculated to advance a German victory which promised an Arab state in Palestine and a disappeared Jewish population. No wonder the Arab marketplaces were filled with placards that exhorted, “In Heaven, Allah is your ruler. On Earth, it is Adolf Hitler.”
The established and incontrovertible facts chronicling the Arab world’s deep and enthusiastic anti-Jewish alliance with the Third Reich during the Holocaust, which exploded into the Farhud, plus the subsequent population shift that Arab governments engineered to expel 850,000 of their own Jewish citizens, make it impossible to weave a fabric of invented history. Recognizing, remembering, and reminding the world of those facts on International Farhud Day, June 1, will help all participants and observers of the Arab-Israeli conflict confront the true legacy that has helped create today’s stalemate. Recognition is the first step along the painful path toward reconciliation.

ISLAM’S IMPACT ON THE WEST’S IDENTITY

The ugly truth.

8
Raymond Ibrahim is a Shillman Fellow at the David Horowitz Freedom Center.
What role if any did Islam play in shaping Europe’s identity, both in the past and the present?
Akbar Ahmed, Chair of Islamic Studies at American University, Washington, DC, and author of the new book, Journey into Europe: Islam, Immigration, and Identity, claims that Islam had a largely positive impact on Europe’s identity (including by invoking the Myth of the Andalusian Paradise).
Thus, any European suspicion or rejection of Muslim migrants is wholly unwarranted.  As Ahmed elaborates in a recent article:
To understand what is happening in European politics and society today, it is necessary to understand European identity, which can be interpreted in three distinct categories-primordial identity, predator identity, and pluralist identity.  Primordial identity emphasizes one’s unique culture and traditions, and predator identity indicates the aggressive, even militaristic lengths that people will resort to in order to protect their identity. Predator identity can be triggered due to perceived threats including globalization, unemployment, economic instability, and the greed and failure of elites. Add the presence of immigrants, and a society can move in extreme and bloody directions which challenge the very notion of a modern democracy.
Note that for Ahmed, Europe’s “predator identity” is only “triggered due to perceived threats”—as if Islam never posed any real threat.
As is often the case whenever the sophists apologize for Islam and blame the West, reality is the exact opposite.  Both past and present, Islam’s own well documented “predator identity”—which manifested itself in centuries of jihad and atrocities—was and is responsible for the “militaristic lengths that [non-Muslim] people will resort to in order to protect their identity.”
Hence the irony: yes, Europe’s identity is largely a byproduct of Islam—but hardly in the way the apologists claim: “If we … ask ourselves how and when the modern notion of Europe and the European identity was born,” writes historian Franco Cardini, “we realize the extent to which Islam was a factor (albeit a negative one) in its creation.  Repeated Muslim aggression against Europe between the seventh to eighth centuries, then between the fourteenth and the eighteenth centuries … was a ‘violent midwife’ to Europe.”
By way of examples, he cites “Turkish Sultan Mohammed II [r.1451-1481] and Suleiman the Magnificent [r.1520-1566],” under whose reigns hundreds of thousands of Europeans were slaughtered and much more enslaved, always in the name of jihad: they “forc[ed] the continent to defend itself and to find ways and means of concerted action, encouraged it towards a stronger sense of self—and strong sense of ‘the Other.’”
Similarly, after summarizing centuries of Islamic invasions, Bernard Lewis writes, “Thus, at both its eastern and southwestern extremities, the limits and in a sense even the identity of Europe were established through first the advance, and then the retreat, of Islam.”
It is, incidentally, for this reason that tiny Europe’s self-identity did not revolve around ethnicity or language—hence why such a small corner of the Eurasian landmass (Europe) still houses dozens of both, some widely divergent, while much larger landmasses are homogenous—but rather religion: it was the last and most redoubtable bastion of Christendom not to be conquered by Islam.
This becomes evident when one understands that the West is actually the westernmost remnant of what was a much more extensive civilizational block that Islam permanently severed.  As documented in my new book, Sword and Scimitar: Fourteen Centuries of War between Islam and the West, nonstop jihad and terror saw three-quarters of the post-Roman Christian world become Islamic, leaving the remaining quarter—Europe proper—in a permanent state of embattlement.
Moving to the present, the war has taken a different form—one partially built on presenting the antithesis of the true history between Islam and the West—that is, through dissembling.   While millions of Muslim migrants, many of whom exhibit that old Islamic hostility and contempt for the infidel, are brought into Europe, those Europeans who try to resist the takeover are counseled not to be “triggered due to perceived threats.”
Thus Ahmed’s article, “Italy must remember its pluralist past,” is dedicated to convincing Italians to be even more welcoming of Muslim migrants, “without reviving a predator identity that led to destruction on a catastrophic scale in the last century. They must act before it is too late.”
Whatever was “catastrophic” about the last century has no applicability to the question of welcoming a flood of hostile, unassimilable Muslim migrants.
If we’re going to evoke the past in the context of prompting Europeans to “act before it is too late,” the truth of what Muslims have done in and to Italy and the rest of Europe is what was and continues to be responsible for, to quote Ahmed’s own words, the “militaristic lengths that [Europeans] people will resort to in order to protect their identity.”

MURDER EDUCATIONAL TELEVISION

Forensic Files recalls rape and murder of Cally Jo Larson by false-documented Mexican illegal.

Since the 2016 campaign, leftist Democrats have been blasting President Trump for speaking out against violent criminal illegals who rape and murder. Those who seek examples of such crimes might take a look at the “The Music Case,” a 2004 Forensic Files episode again making the rounds.
In Wauseca, Minnesota, 12-year-old Cally Jo Larson, a bright student fond of gymnastics, is found murdered in her home. The police have no suspects but a string of  burglaries leads them to Lorenzo Sanchez, who possesses items from the crime scene, such as a CD case. The episode shows how other evidence helped convict him, but there’s more to the story.
As the narrator explains, Lorenzo Sanchez is an “illegal immigrant” from Mexico, but the episode does not explain that he had been deported twice and served a month in jail the previous year. Prosecutors and the judge knew the Mexican national was an illegal with false documents but failed to act on that reality. They let Sanchez remain in Minnesota and eight days before the murder he was picked up by police but released.
The Mexican wandered around Wauseca burglarizing houses and broke into the Larson home through a basement door. The burglar encountered Cally Jo, who had just returned from school.
When police arrive, they find the teen stabbed through the chest, but the episode fails to convey the crime’s full horror.
The Mexican illegal tied up and raped the 12-year-old before stabbing her in the chest. That done, he wrapped an electrical cord around Cally Jo’s neck and strung up her bleeding body from a staircase banister. An hour later, Jayme Larson, 16, found her sister there.
“I can’t even stay home alone in my own house,” Jayme told reporters. “My life will not be the same.”
Forensic Files shows how the killer tried to pin the rape-murder on his brother Pedro, also an illegal immigrant and in prison at the time. The episode does not show Lorenzo claiming that U.S. authorities violated his rights by not telling him he could consult with Mexican officials.
Based on the evidence, the court found Sanchez guilty but the Forensic Files episode fails to show the leniency of the sentence. Authorities dropped four charges, including criminal sexual conduct and kidnapping, and the rapist-murderer got a life sentence, with possibility of parole, for which he will be eligible in 2030.
A four-year sentence for burglary is being served concurrently, and as one report noted, “he might eventually go free.” After the sentencing, the murderer’s brother Miguel told reporters “he doesn't think that his brother committed the crime and that he confessed only because he was depressed and wanted to get the matter over with.”
As Cally Jo’s mother Connie Larson said after the sentencing, “I’m unable to forgive an evil man who committed an evil act.” The term evil does seem to apply, given the circumstances.
Lorenzo Sanchez, or whatever his real name is, was not supposed to be in the United States in the first place. This criminal gained entry by breaking U.S. immigration law, just as he broke into houses in Wauseca, Minnesota, where violent crime was rare.
The Mexican criminal was deported but again violated U.S. law. U.S. authorities knew he was illegal but failed to deport him again, and failed to arrest him only eight days before the rape, murder and hanging of Cally Jo Larson.
This is what happens when U.S. official fail to enforce the law and allow violent criminals to enter and remain in the United States. American taxpayers bear all the costs of this criminal’s incarceration, and the government of Mexico has contributed nothing.
Those who think President Trump exaggerates violent crime by illegals might review this episode. Those who object to his travel ban might watch “Honor Thy Father,” a Forensic files episode about Zein Isa, a PLO and Abu Nidal colleague who brought his family to the United States in 1985.
Isa’s daughter Tina played soccer, was popular with boys, went to the prom, listened to popular music and worked part time. For that Isa beat her. The father planned to arrange a marriage for Tina, who took a shine to American Clifford Walker, who was black. This enraged Isa, who called Tina a “she-devil” and stabbed her six times with a boning knife, piercing her heart, lungs and liver.
Zein Isa died in prison before he could be executed. The Forensic Files episode makes clear his utter disregard for U.S. law, including the law against murder. The episode is  a better primer on Islamic culture than anything that comes out of CAIR or the politically correct courses in government schools.
Likewise, “The Music Case” is a stronger case against criminal illegals than anything from the DNC and its media allies. If false-documented criminal illegals were deported at the first opportunity and denied reentry, Cally Jo Larson, Kate Steinle and countless others would be alive today.

INNOVATION? INDEPENDENT THINKING? IN WESTERN EUROPE?

One man's prescriptions for Norway.

8
Norway has the world's sixth highest GDP per capita. Or maybe the eighth. Its rank varies according to whether you're listening to the IMF, the CIA, or the World Bank. Depending on whose list you go by, it's bested by somewhere between three and five tax havens (Luxembourg, Switzerland, Monaco, Singapore, and Ireland) and two or three small oil-rich countries (Qatar, Brunei, the UAE). As with the latter nations, Norway's rank on these list is artificially inflated by its massive petroleum income, which is pumped out of the North Sea and poured directly into the planet's largest sovereign wealth fund. The cash in this fund theoretically belongs to the Norwegian people, but they have no access to it, and no well-traveled outside observer exposed to the everyday lives of average subjects in King Harald's realm would ever imagine that this is, on paper, one of the very richest populations on earth.
No, they're certainly not poor. But one day the oil will run out. And, soon enough, if they have to start drawing on it, the oil fund will disappear. Then what? Well, by then the country may well be an Islamic monarchy and solving that problem will be the job of the new emir. In the meantime, however, the Norwegian economy is increasingly burdened by welfare-state outlays to immigrants (overwhelmingly Muslim) and their children. You might think a government drowning in oil profits would take advantage of that boon to lighten the burden on entrepreneurs and thus encourage the development of new business sectors. Instead, Norway does pretty much everything it can to make life extremely tough for potential start-ups.
A recent opinion piece in what may be Norway's only grown-up newspaper, Dagens Næringsliv (DN) – a business daily in the mold of the Wall Street Journal or Financial Times – puts its finger on the problem. “Oil-saturated Norway needs more world-class job creators,” argues Hermund Haaland, a director of the think tank Skaperkraft (“creator power”) who holds an MBA from the Norwegian School of Economics. One problem standing in the way of higher job-creation levels, Haaland maintains, is what he calls the resurgence of the “Jante Law” mentality – the mindset, instilled from the cradle in statist, collectivist, solidarity-obsessed Scandinavia, that it's inappropriate for individuals to try to achieve personal success to a degree that it places them above the common herd. Another problem is that there's still a residual sense of reliance on the welfare state, which Norwegians are brought up to revere. No surprise, then, that, as Haaland observes, “the percentage of Norwegians who want to start their own business was almost halved between 2005 and 2015.” Only 4.8% of the population has seriously entertained the idea.
Haaland's suggestion for a cure to this ailment? It's a striking one: Norway should learn from Israel.
The idea shouldn't be striking, of course: Israel is, among many other things, a miracle of technological innovation and prosperity in the midst of what was once a barren desert. But these days it's unusual for anyone in Norway (outside of the pro-U.S., pro-Israel Progress Party) to hold it up as an example to be emulated rather than as a villain to be condemned – a terrorist state, a child killer, a committer of unprovoked bombings and massacres, a denier of electricity and clean water to Gaza, and so on. Typical of the views of its cultural establishment is the blatantly anti-Semitism expressed in an infamous 2006 op-ed, “God's Chosen People,” by Jostein Gaarder, author of the beloved international bestseller Sophie's World. As for the political elite, much if not most of it agrees with former Prime Minister KÃ¥re Willoch, a vile old fossil who regularly comes out with anti-Israeli comments (most recently condemning the IDF's firm response to Hamas's evil “Nabka Day” hijinks) and has frequently been calledan outright Jew-hater.
Haaland is a different breed of Norwegian. Last year, with Nicolai Strøm-Olsen, he published a book called Start-up Israel. I haven't read it, but his op-ed sums up a few of their main points: in Silicon Wadi, Israel's answer to the Silicon Valley, investments in new firms rose from $58 million in 1991 to $3.3. billion in 2000. In interviews with Israeli entrepreneurs, writes Haaland, he was repeatedly told that one of the secrets of Israeli innovation is the country's “argumentative culture.” From childhood, he writes, “Israelis learn to debate.” Haaland doesn't bother to point out – he doesn't need to – that Norway is virtually the exact opposite: a society where, if you want to get by, socially and professionally, among respectable types, you're expected to be “A4.” A4, if you don't know, is the official name for the size of letter paper used in most of the world. (America's 8 ½ X 11 paper is an outlier.) Being “A4” means fitting in. It means being careful not to openly challenge consensus leftist views, as taught in schools and colleges and reinforced daily by the mainstream media.
This mentality, submits Haaland, needs to change. Norwegians must imbue their children with the kind of “creativity and independence” that's routinely encouraged among Israeli kids. To do this, he proposes, “we have to change the schools.” (Tall order, in a time when the big problem in Norwegian schools is increasingly not pedagogical but, ahem, disciplinary.) But that's not all: Norway also has to cultivate “a culture of hungry, society-building entrepreneurs.” (It's startling to read this phrase: the very concept is as un-Norwegian as they come.) Norway can't do any of this, however, without a change in mentality at the top – a recognition by political leaders that heavy taxes and overregulation (stores over a certain size, for example, are forbidden to be open on Sunday) are not exactly the best way to grow an economy.
Who is Hermund Haaland? I hadn't heard of him before encountering his op-ed. Looking at Skaperkraft's website, I discovered that he's a member of Norway's shrinking Christian People's Party, known in Norway by its initials KrF. I must admit that it happens to be my least favorite party in the country, because it combines a far-left enthusiasm for big, intrusive government (in its case, on behalf of families and children, whom it regards as property of the state) with far-right social conservatism (including a tendency to kowtow to Islam, whose adherents party leaders hope will swell their aging, dwindling ranks). Still, Haaland is quite the impressive guy. In one witty piece, directed at fellow Christians and published this year on Easter Eve, he celebrates Jesus as an ideal entrepreneur – terrific at putting together a team, constructing an image, building a brand, and pursuing a scalable business model.
The recommendations Haaland offers to Norwegian leaders in his DN piece are excellent. But I'll add a point of my own: if Norwegian leaders heed his prescriptions, they won't just be doing their economy a favor; they'll almost surely be increasing their country's chance of surviving its current – shall we say – social and cultural difficulties. A Norway that encourages free thinking and independent initiative, that turns its schools from Labor Party training camps into laboratories of intellectual and creative experiment, is a Norway whose people will likely be more far inclined than they are now to stand up to the challenge of Islam. In fact, it wouldn't be a bad idea for the leaders of several other Western European basket cases to take Haaland's lessons to heart. Putting his ideas into practice in Norway, alas, is probably close to impossible, given the resistance such thinking would encounter from nearly every direction, and from the Nordic temperament itself; and in any event the process of Islamization may already have progressed too far for any such reforms to make a real difference. But it would be lovely to see it tried.
