Gun sales have skyrocketed so dramatically that now some gun retailers are claiming they are nearly out of guns and ammunition.
In the wake of violent protests and looting across the nation, gun sales set a record nationwide for the month of June, The Washington Free Beacon reports. On Wednesday, Small Arms Analytics & Forecasting released a study showing over 2.3 million guns were sold in June, an increase of at least 145.3% compared to June 2019, short of the record 2.5 million in March, but far outstripping the estimated 1.7 million guns sold in May and 1.8 million in April.

The study stated, “Likely single handgun sales increased year-over-year by 177.5% whereas single long-gun sales increased year-over-year by 114.3%. All other likely background check-related sales increased year-over-year by 74%. This includes so-called ‘multiple sales’ where the allocation between handguns and long-guns cannot be determined from the data record.”
At the rate guns have sold in 2020, the final total of the year would set a record. Brandon Wexler, owner of Wex Gunworks in Delray Beach, Florida, told the Free Beacon, “Obama was the best gun sales in the country, they claimed. No, COVID-19 is.” He added, “Pretty much everything is out of stock. We have been doing it since the late ‘70s and have never seen literally no supply available. As of last week, at all major distributors you could not get any guns. Everything was literally sold out. Can’t even get hearing protection.”
“Our sales within just a few thousand dollars of doubling in June 2020 as compared to 2019. Popular guns and ammo SKUs have been sold out for some time and now it is becoming a challenge to keep anything in stock that is among the higher demand categories … things like handguns, home defense shotguns, AR/MSRs and the associated ammo, particularly 9mm,” Rex McClanahan, president of Bud’s Gun Shop echoed.

Windham Taylor, outreach manager for Ammo.com. added, “Things are not slowing down in the ammo world at all. Sales have continued to soar throughout June despite major shortages from nearly all suppliers due to the sustained demand from our customers. We are working hard to keep up with demand and will continue to provide the best customer support possible.”
McClanahan admitted, “Distributors and manufacturers are all struggling now, several months into this extremely high demand market. The current status of the supply chain is already overwhelmed with both no end to the current demand in sight … and a presidential election coming up in just four months.”
After the gun sales were reported in May, Mark Oliva, a spokesman for National Shooting Sports Foundation, the gun industry’s trade group, noted“Our recent survey of firearm retailers shows us that 40 percent of these gun buyers are buying a firearm for the first time. Of those first-time gun owners, 40 percent are women and these buyers are overwhelmingly purchasing handguns for personal protection.”

Spike Lee: ‘Them Motherf***ing Confederate Statues Need To Come The F**k Down’; ‘F*** That Flag’

Filmmaker Spike Lee has joined the chorus of those calling for the end of Confederate statues and monuments.
Speaking on the Luminary’s Black List Podcast, hosted by Black List co-founder Franklin Leonard and Black List community director Kate Hagen, Spike Lee said in no uncertain terms that the monuments dedicated to Confederate leaders need to come down.

“F**k that flag,” Lee said, as reported by Variety. “That flag, to me, [makes me feel] the same way my Jewish brothers and sisters feel about the swastika… And them motherf***ing Confederate statues need to come the f*** down.”
The conversation then segued into the Black Lives Matter movement and how it relates to Spike Lee’s Academy Award-nominated movie “Do the Right Thing,” which ends in a riot after police officers strangle an unarmed black man in a situation similar to that of George Floyd.
“It’s like the film was made yesterday,” Lee said. “So, there are two ways to think about it. That it’s still unique. It’s still new. And then also, Black people are still being murdered [and] dying. If you’ve seen ‘Do the Right Thing,’ how can you not automatically think of Eric Garner, and then king George Floyd?”

Lee also admired the fact that white people have been joining the Black Lives Matter movement and protesting in cities where there are few black people.
“It’s never been about how [Black people] respond to it,” Lee continued. “It’s been about how our white sisters and brothers respond to it. And have you been watching CNN like I have? People are marching all over God’s Earth chanting, yelling [and] screaming ‘Black lives matter,’ and they’re not Black… That’s the big difference. You see a young generation of my white brothers and sisters [and] they are out there in full effect. I mean, forget about the rest of the world for a second. White folks are marching in Salt Lake City [and] Des Moines, Iowa, where there ain’t no Black folks for a minute.”
Critical eyes toward Confederate imagery have been directed from both the Left and the Right. In GOP-led Mississippi for instance, the state legislature recently voted to remove the Confederate symbol from its state flag.
“The Mississippi state House of Representatives voted 85-34 to move forward with a plan that would allow for the changing of the state flag, which was adopted in 1894 and features the Confederate battle emblem prominently displayed in the top left corner,” The Daily Wire reported. “The legislation, which received bipartisan support, narrowly exceeded the necessary two-thirds majority that is required to suspend the legislative session’s deadline in order to proceed with the flag change, which itself would only require a majority vote.”
NASCAR has also banned the presence of Confederate flags at all sporting events.

A Black Lives Matter protester who shot at cars during a demonstration in downtown Provo, Utah, on Monday, has been arrested and charged with attempted aggravated murder among other crimes.
A shocking video, posted across social media Monday, showed at least one protester discharging a weapon multiple times into the cab of a large SUV that drove through a Black Lives Matter protest held in Provo on Monday. Provo police corroborated what is seen in the clip, posting on social media late Monday that a shooting victim had been received at a local hospital and that officers were looking for information on the shooter.

WARNING: The video, via Deseret News, shows the shooting as it happened.

Provo City Police were made aware of a planned Police Rally and a Counter-protest scheduled for last night,” the department posted Monday. “Both events coincided without incident until 8:38 pm when a call was received regarding possible gunshots and a hit and run.”

“Shortly thereafter,” Provo police added, “[w]e received another call regarding a shooting victim at Utah Valley Hospital.”
On Wednesday, Provo police announced that they’d arrested 33-year-old Jesse Taggart, one of the BLM demonstrators, in connection with the shooting, according to a local Fox affiliate.
“According to Provo Police, 33-year-old Jesse Taggart of Salt Lake City was arrested on charges of attempted aggravated murder, aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury, rioting, threatening the use of a weapon in a fight or quarrel, criminal mischief, and firing a weapon near a highway,” per Fox 13 Utah.
“Police say Taggart shot the driver of an SUV on University Avenue as protesters crowded around the vehicle. The driver sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. Taggart reportedly then fired another shot at the rear of the vehicle as it sped away from the scene,” the outlet added.
Witnesses told police that Taggart stowed the weapon after the shooting and went back to protesting, blending in among the throng of people attending the BLM rally.
“The victim was driving a white SUV on University Avenue and was attempting to turn onto Center Street when a group of protesters began ‘crowding around the vehicle. A male protester ran to the SUV on the passenger side, pointed a handgun at (the) driver, and shot one round through the window,'” Deseret News reported, based on a synopsis of the incident provided by Provo law enforcement.
“This same protester later approached another vehicle at 500 North and University Avenue, striking and breaking the window with the handgun,” the outlet added.
“Peaceful protests are a fundamental right and often can become an important catalyst for positive change. Criminal acts and violence such as we saw last night in Provo were anything but peaceful and are unacceptable,” Provo’s mayor said Tuesday.
A second protester, a 27-year-old woman, was also arrested and charged with obstruction of justice and rioting, but police did not say whether she was connected to the shooting or to Taggart. Desert News notes that Provo authorities are looking for a second shooter.
