Israel calls for UN general secretary to ‘resign immediately’ over Hamas speech

UN general secretary Antonio Guterres uses speech to claim 'It is important to also recognise the attacks by Hamas did not happen in a vacuum'

Israel’s ambassador to the United Nations Gilad Erdan has called on general secretary Antonio Guterres to resign from his post after he suggested the Hamas terror atrocities “did not happen in a vacuum”

In a speech on Tuesday Guterres said:”It is important to also recognise the attacks by Hamas did not happen in a vacuum.

“The Palestinian people have been subjected to 56 years of suffocating occupation.

“They have seen their land steadily devoured by settlements and plagued by violence; their economy stifled; their people displaced and their homes demolished.

“Their hopes for a political solution to their plight have been vanishing,” said the secretary general.

The UN general secretary qualified his remarks saying:”But the grievances of the Palestinian people cannot justify the appalling attacks by Hamas.

“Nothing can justify the deliberate killing, injuring and kidnapping of civilians – or the launching of rockets against civilian targets.”

He also added:”And those appalling attacks cannot justify the collective punishment of the Palestinian people.”

Erdan responded saying Guterres “is not fit to lead the UN” and called for him to “resign immediately”.

He added:”There is no justification or point in talking to those who show compassion for the most terrible atrocities committed against the citizens of Israel and the Jewish people.”

It comes after Israeli Foreign Minister Eli Cohen said he will not meet Mr Guterres, seemingly cancelling an expected meeting.

“I will not meet with the UN secretary-general,” he wrote on X.

“After the October 7th massacre, there is no place for a balanced approach. Hamas must be erased off the face of the planet.”

Grandmother released as a hostage kept in a ‘spider web’ of tunnels

Translating for her mother, Sharone Lifschitz said: “She was taken on the back of a motorbike, with her legs on one side and her head on the other side."

A grandmother released as a hostage by Hamas terrorists has told how she was kept in a “spider web” of tunnels underneath Gaza by Hamas during her captivity.

Translating for her mother, Sharone Lifschitz told a press conference in Tel Aviv: “She was taken on the back of a motorbike, with her legs on one side and her head on the other side.

“That she was taken through the ploughed fields with the men in front, on one side, and a man behind her. And while she was being taken she was hit by sticks.

“Until they reached the tunnels. There they walked for a few kilometres on the wet ground.

“There is a huge network of tunnels underneath – it looks like a spider web.”

She was released alongside fellow Israeli citizen Nurit Cooper, 79, on Monday evening, but their husbands, 83 and 84, remain captive with more than 200 other civilians.

Britain said six of its nationals are among those still being held hostage since Hamas launched its bloody raids on Israel on October 7.

As she was released to Red Cross officials, Mrs Lifshitz was seen reaching back to shake the hand of one of the Palestinian militants as she said “Shalom”, a greeting in Hebrew meaning peace.

Ms Lifschitz, an artist and academic who spells her name differently from her mother, said it was “incredible” to be reunited with her – “to hold her hand and to kiss her cheek”.

“She is very sharp and is very keen to share the information, pass on the information to families of other hostages she was with,” she told the BBC.

She said she will continue to campaign for the release of her father, Oded Lifshitz, and the other captives.

“He speaks good Arabic, so he can communicate very well with the people there,” Ms Lifschitz said.

“He knows many people in Gaza and the West Bank. I want to think that he’s going to be OK.

“My mum said they had been looked after and there was a doctor there, so this gives a lot of comfort to everybody.

“We have so many people that we’ve lost – it is a little ray of light but there is a huge darkness as well.”

Ms Lifschitz said she and her mother still dream of peace with the Palestinians, even as an expected ground invasion of Gaza by Israel threatens sparking a wider war in the region.

“We have to find ways because there is no alternative. If anything, it makes me even more resolved,” she said.

“The way has got longer – we are dealing with grief and loss on a level we can never get over, but as nations we will have to find a way forward.”

Mrs Lifshitz was able to describe her ordeal for herself as she appeared at a press conference in Tel Aviv while sitting in a wheelchair and being supported by her daughter.

Translating for her mother, Ms Lifschitz said she had been beaten with sticks after militants snatched her away on a motorbike before leading her into Gaza’s tunnels.

“There is a huge network of tunnels underneath – it looks like a spider web,” the daughter said.

But, giving a glimmer of hope to other families, she said the militants provided the hostages with medical care.

“They were very friendly towards them and they took care of them, they were given medicine and they were treated,” Ms Lifschitz said.

The release of the two women took the total number of people freed to four, with an American woman and her teenage daughter having been released three days earlier.

Ilhan Omar Explodes Over Israel Killing Terrorists; The Democrat congresswoman has a long history of making antisemitic remarks and expressing sympathy for terrorists — even pushing Hamas propaganda

Ilhan Omar Explodes Over Israel Killing Terrorists

Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) went off during a press conference over Israel killing Hamas terrorists in response to the October 7 massacre of more than 1,400 Israeli citizens.

The Democrat congresswoman has a long history of making antisemitic remarks and expressing sympathy for terrorists — even pushing Hamas propaganda earlier this week claiming that an explosion at a hospital in Gaza was due to an Israeli missile strike. Omar later tried to walk back her comments after she was criticized — as numerous reports confirmed that the hospital was still standing and the damage was actually done by a Hamas rocket misfire. In her latest attempt to defend terrorists, Omar exploded into a fit of rage outside the U.S. Capitol on Friday — where she demanded a ceasefire from Israel while not making the same demands of Hamas terrorists in Palestine, who are continuing to fire rockets at Israel as the Jewish state tries to root out terrorists in Gaza.

“Israel has dropped more bombs in last 10 days than we dropped in a whole year in Afghanistan!” Omar shouted. “Where is your humanity?! Where is your outreach?! Where is your care for people?!”

The Democrat congresswoman went on to attack her fellow Democrats, who had condemned statements made by Omar and other far-left lawmakers demonizing Israel.

“I want to say how insane and painful and scary it is to work and serve in a space where we have a member in our caucus say all Muslims are responsible for this, and not a single condemnation comes from our caucus leadership or any member of Congress,” Omar said.

“How is it that we are serving in a body, serving in a body where there are members who condemn us for asking for peace, for ceasefire, the most simplest thing?”
As reporters began asking lawmakers questions during the press conference, one far-left lawmaker attempted to stop a reporter from asking why they were demanding Israel stop their quest to eliminate terrorists who had murdered, tortured and kidnapped Israeli civilians — including women and children.

Omar’s response to the question was to scream at the reporter, going off on a shocking rant where she tried to suggest that Israel was targeting “the people of Gaza” rather than terrorists.

“How many more killings is enough for you?! Is it a thousand more?! Two thousand more?! Three thousand more?! How many more Palestinians would make you happy if they died?!” Omar yelled. “Will you be fine if all of the people of Gaza were gone?! Would that make you happy?! Would that be the thing that makes you proud?!”

“And maybe that’s the question you should ask Ritchie, is he okay?!” she added, referring to Rep. Ritchie Torres (D-NY). “How many more Palestinian lives is he comfortable with?! Because I am not comfortable with any more!”

Marjorie Taylor Greene to bring resolution to censure Rashida Tlaib, accusing her of 'antisemitic activity'

EXCLUSIVE: Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., is introducing a resolution on Tuesday to censure Rep. Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., accusing the progressive "Squad" member of "antisemitic activity" and "sympathizing with terrorist organizations."

"The [Democratic] Party has done nothing to hold her accountable. They've done nothing to rein her in, and no one else here has done it. And so I thought it was right to list examples of – this isn't just new. This isn't a one-off thing. This is exactly who she is," Greene told Fox News Digital.

Greene accused Tlaib of leading a pro-Palestinian protest on Capitol Hill last week. Hundreds of demonstrators called for a cease-fire after the terror group Hamas staged an unprecedented, bloody incursion from the Palestinian exclave of Gaza into southern Israel on Oct. 7, killing hundreds of civilians and prompting an ongoing response from the Israeli military.

Tlaib spoke at the protest, during which activists took over much of the ground floor at the Cannon House Office Building.

In those comments, she blamed Israel for bombing a hospital in Gaza – remarks she did not retract after multiple intelligence agencies said that existing proof indicated the blast came from a misfired Hamas rocket.

In its text, Greene also referenced Tlaib’s endorsement of a slogan used by Hamas and the Palestine Liberation Organization. She also recalled Tlaib’s past comments in which she called Israel "an apartheid government."

Tlaib is the only Palestinian-American member of Congress.

Greene said when asked about GOP feedback to her push to censure Tlaib, "I think we will have every single Republican vote with us for this central resolution."

She said of the left, "It would be shocking to me if they didn't vote for it."

Greene also called for Tlaib’s support of last week’s cease-fire protest to be investigated by multiple House panels.

"It should [have] a House Ethics investigation. [The House Administration Committee] should be investigating it. I think the Department of Justice, FBI should be investigating, even possibly the CIA," Greene said.

Tlaib’s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment Monday evening.
