Political liesIf Trump really is a “fascist” like “Hitler” why would they peacefully transfer power to him? Because they never believed their age-old lies. Barry Goldwater, Richard Nixon, Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, Mitt Romney…and Donald Trump have all been called “fascists” by the Democrats. That’s right, the Washington Examiner documented the history of the Democrat playbook which demonizes Republican presidential candidates.
Sadly, the low-information voters are easily fooled and they believed the Democrats’ lies: Like, Trump will be a dictator and this will be the last election they will be able to cast a ballot and Trump is going to exact political retribution and jail his enemies. In reality, it’s the democrats who have jailed their political enemies like Steve Bannon.
In 2022, I was invited to an America First Policy Institute meeting in Atlanta and while there I met and talked with John Ratcliffe, who is President-elect Trump’s pick for CIA Director. Ratcliffe has a long resume that I won’t list here, but most recently he was a former Congressman and in 2019, Trump picked him to replace Dan Coats as Director of National Intelligence. I found Ratcliffe to be a very smart, friendly and a down-to-earth guy. I asked him about his experience the first time he was in the oval office. He told me that he was in awe. He said he was just a kid from Carbondale, Illinois and then one day there he was in the historic Oval Office with the President. Trump said something very similar during his interview on Joe Rogan’s podcast. We see these people on TV all of the time and sometimes forget that they are just people like you and me. I met Mike Johnson over 20 years ago while pursuing our mutual passions at the time – advancing religious liberty and conservative values.
One of our first cases together as religious liberty attorneys was defending a school district in Louisiana that had the temerity to open its school board meetings with prayer, only to find itself the target of an ACLU lawsuit seeking to silence those prayers. Together, we also fought for children to be able to include Bible verses in cards they made themselves in class when the school district tried to stop them. Picture in your mind the school blacking out a Bible verse on a child’s created card for his or her mom. In both cases, we won.
Mike and I worked hand in hand crafting our strategy to protect expressions of faith in schools and the public square. We called it the American Heritage Project. These were the seeds that led to two Supreme Court victories—Coach Kennedy’s right to pray on the football field and the protection of the American Legion’s World War I Bladensburg Veterans Memorial in the shape of a Cross.
