Adonai Li “The Lord Is For Me” (pt 3)

What more can Psalm 118 show us?
22 The stone that the builders rejected
    has become the cornerstone.
23 Yahweh is responsible for this,
and it is amazing for us to see.
No, we don’t know everything that was going on to cause the Psalmist to write these verses, but the New Testament writers somehow realized that they referred to Christ who was “rejected by many, but became the cornerstone of the Church” (see Ephesians 2:20).
So somehow, some way, the Psalmist was able to see beyond his crisis to the Hope for humanity that lie ahead. The Hope of Salvation and deliverance.
This is the day Yahweh has made.
Let’s rejoice and be glad today!
25 We beg you, O Yahweh, save us!
We beg you, O Yahweh, do send prosperity!
Some believe these verses are talking about the day of victory against impossible odds. The words would certainly apply, don’t you think? Others believe they are referring to one of the festivals days, probably the Feast of Tabernacles. The psalmist and worshipers rejoiced and were glad in it and prayed for prosperity.
Now that is an fascinating view . . . as a matter of fact, if we turn to the 14th chapter of Zechariah, we see something interesting:
Everyone who is left from all the nations that attacked Jerusalem will come every year to worship the Melek, Yahweh Tsebaoth, and to celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles.” ~Zechariah 14:16
Now let’s think about this one. I am sure all of us know that there are many festivals in Judaism — seven to be precise. So why is the Feast of Tabernacles mentioned in this verse rather than some other holiday? Well, what is the central theme of this holiday? It is dependence and trust on the Lord. Israel’s call as Yahweh’s chosen people is based in Israel’s call to demonstrate their dependence and trust in Him. Finally, in the last days and especially in the Millennium Kingdom, Israel will take her role of leadership among all the nations in the world and will lead others to follow her example and worship the King of kings and the Lord of lords.
26 Blessed is the one who comes in the name of Yahweh.
We bless you from Yahweh’s house.
27 Yahweh is El, and he has given us light.
    March in a festival procession
with branches to the horns of the altar.
28 You are my El, and I give thanks to you.
My Elohim, I honor you highly.29 Give thanks to Yahweh because he is good,
    because his mercy endures forever.
This is the final blessing in this Psalm. My favorite verse here is 27, where it says, “Yahweh is El . . . if you are wondering who the “El” is, the “God,” the Lord . . . it isn’t Allah; it isn’t Buddha; it isn’t Mohamed . . . nope, it is Yahweh! He is the one who has given us light; He is our God, and we are to give HIM our gratitude, our honor. Why? Because He is good and because His Mercy endures forever!
