Bringing whatever stirs my heart
Knowledge, Understanding and Wisdom

On one of my blogs, Proverbs-a-day, I post each day’s reading, and each month I post a different Bible translation. It is one way I can provide others with the same opportunity I have enjoyed for many years.
What many don’t understand is that there are different terms in the Scriptures, and each one has a different meaning. Let me explain. When you mention Wisdom, Knowledge and Understanding, most people see them as being synonymous, but they are not. Knowledge is the taking in information; understanding is the assimilation and absorption of the information; and wisdom is the out-flow, the application of the information.
Let me illustrate this. Right now, I am providing information and you are obtaining knowledge as you are reading. Hopefully, you will process this information and gain understanding. Then, you will take it to heart and begin to apply your understanding to gain wisdom!
Now, according to the scriptures, knowledge begins with the reverencing, or possessing a deep respect for the Lord. We could say the our reverence actually creates an attitude for receiving knowledge. This what Proverbs 1:7 tells us:
The reverent and worshipful fear of the Lord is the beginning and the principal and choice part of knowledge–its starting point and its essence; but fools despise skillful and godly Wisdom, instruction, and discipline (Proverbs 1:7)
So, if you are seeking wisdom, go to God’s Word. When you apply the knowledge of God’s Word, wisdom will prosper every area of your life!
Job developed some understanding on wisdom:
Where can wisdom be found? Where does understanding live? No mortal knows where it is. It cannot be found in this world of the living (Job 28:12-13)
In other words, man has no idea where wisdom can be found. Human wisdom is futile. It is simply the cesspool of repeated failures pretending to be valuable experience. Come on, think about it. We talk about learning from the school of “hard knocks,” right? Imagine being able to bypass all of the sorrows that come from your short-sighted ways. Why not choose to be blessed by wisdom as revealed by God instead of going the hard way of random trial and error? The choice is yours: God’s wisdom or man’s folly.
The best that human wisdom is going to get you recollection, while godly wisdom will give you revelation. Quit seeking wisdom from men. Instead treasure Yahweh and uncover the riches of His wisdom. He possesses all wisdom:
Elohim understands the way to it. He knows where it lives because he can see to the ends of the earth and observe everything under heaven. When he gave the wind its force and measured the water in the sea, when he made rules for the rain and set paths for the thunderstorms, then he saw it and announced it. He confirmed it and examined it. So he told humans, ‘The fear of Adonay is wisdom! To stay away from evil is understanding(Job 28:23-28)
Once you immerse yourself in His Word, it will create a siphon of living water flowing from you. Wisdom fears and reverences the Lord. The rivers of wisdom flow from the springs of God’s Word. His Word embodies His wisdom! His desire is for His wisdom to overflow into your life daily. I don’t believe you can risk a day without the wisdom that is assimilated from God’s Word! Apply His Word using godly knowledge and wisdom. The fear of God will motivate you to pursue wisdom. So pursue wisdom establishing a sure foundation for yourself to build on and enjoy a new life!
